• Scotland ( UK): West Highland Way hike
The West Highland Way to the north is reserved only for true adventurers who are not afraid of long hours of walking as they tour Scotland's mountainous region, one of the most picturesque and splendid landscapes in Europe.
This little-explored, desolate and mysterious land holds incredible secrets that are revealed to those who walk their paths among moors, mountains, valleys, rock formations and lakes. A true natural beauty that needs to be discovered.

  • Here are very cool "then & now" photos of the National Old Trails Road (NOTR) portion that later was Route 66 between Barstow and Oro Grande, California. In the early 1900s, the use of the automobile began to grow and better roads became necessary. The National Old Trails planned a road from Los Angeles to New York, and they aligned it next to the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad tracks from Cajon Pass to Needles. The road passed through Oro Grande. Here they appear to be grading the future roadway using slip, Fresno scrapers pulled by mules and possibly using a Holt crawler tractor in the back. Some of the original sections of Route 66 and other highways of that time have a lot of curves to go around hills and valleys because of the limitations of the equipment. The top picture was taken in the year 1917 showing the new improvement of the existing 10-foot wide roadway of the 1849 Santa Fe & Salt lake Trail.

  • We found our way to the #RedCliffsWildlifeConservationArea because of some RV trouble we had. Just before the trip we had a frontend alignment done and the mechanic failed to torque any of the bolts down. Our camber adjustor fell out while we were two-tracking on a backroad near #BryceCanyon in #Utah and the tie rod adjustor sleeves on both sides were loose as well. If you envision Utah being a vast expanse with few amenities, you are 100% correct. There was not one place within a towable distance that could service anything the size of our 31' RV.

Towing would have cost $1500 and I wasn't paying that. So, I went on a hike and found the part we lost then put everything back together well enough so we could drive to the only place that could help us. This required us to drive 4 hours in the opposite direction from where we were heading. We couldn't get there before the place closed, so I had to find us a free #boondocking site. This is what I found and the #views turned a negative situation into one that simply added to our adventure.

I'm glad it happened how it did, because if the part fell out in a different spot during our journey, it could have sent us down into some very deep rocky valleys. As you can see, Nietzsche and Lucy weren't bothered by the ordeal, LMAO. They love it when we find a new place for them to run free. As soon as we pulled into the #trailhead parking all the stress lifted from me as well. From there on out the negative had turned into a positive. It's a good thing I'm an auto mechanic, among other things.

  • Since AlphaHippie is doxing(jk) me in his travel pics, I decided to update my avatar and put a face to my account. Everywhere he goes I go as well. He's my chauffer actually, since my arms are not strong enough to handle the RV or the pontoon boat these days. This is one of my favorite pictures, because it's the first time in a long time I decided to join AH and the pups for a short hike down the trail. Well, the first time for a trail of this difficulty level.

AH found me a nice branch to use as a walking stick, whittled a handle and a point at the other end and off we went. I'm glad I did, because the differing perspectives of the scenery as we walked made each one unique as we descended into the shallow valleys and ascended back up. I loved this place and am happy that AH found it for our nightly boondocking spot.

  • Here's another view from the #NaahDaahHey #Trailhead featuring my friend MineYourMind. The trailhead sits at the top of a hill, giving you spectacular #views. This is also the Southernmost trailhead for the 163 mile trail system it connects to. I will definitely be visiting again to hike a few legs of the #trail, if not the whole thing sometime in the future.

Like I mentioned a couple posts ago, this is located around the #BurningCoalVein area within the #LittleMissouriNational Grasslands in #NorthDakota. The Eastern part of the state is quite bland, but as you get closer to the Western border, things get much more scenic. As a matter of fact these #hills and #valleys are still considered part of the #Badlands terrain.

  • Glow Worm Cave,New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most scenic countries in the world but bayond the peaks of the mountain ranges the deep valleys and the glaciers are a series of caves that seem to have come straight from a fairy tale the reason for this is because they’re home to glowworms which  are the larval forms of a species of fungus gnat that are endemic to the country know locally is ttyl which means projected over water the bioluminescence that’s produced in the insects abdomens is designed to attract prey and happens as a result of a chemical reaction between a Lucifer rays enzyme and a molecule of Luciferian it creates one of the most stunning sights that you can see in the natural world and makes for a magical boat ride through the cavern when thousands of the glowworms are active
