  • April is Zanzibar’s wettest month, the height of the main rainy season that runs from mid-March to the end of May and can still see some very good days.
The sea is still warm, and the mornings can be clear and fresh. Storms build in the early afternoon and are usually short and fierce; only occasionally does the rain set in for a few consecutive days.
It’s impossible to predict how much rain might fall and where. In one region, a downpour may cause extensive flooding, while just an hour away, it’s warm and dry. April, in short, is a bit of a lottery.

  • Hey there! Today's weather is absolutely bonkers, isn't it? At least in the UK. It's like the wind has taken a page from a Shakespearean play and is putting on a dramatic performance. I half-expect it to start reciting soliloquies any moment now.
But honestly, all this wind is making me feel like a tumbleweed. I need some sunshine, pronto! In fact, in my mindfulness schedule for today, I've already imagined myself lounging on a beach in Zanzibar, soaking up the sun and sipping on a coconut drink.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay in that imaginary paradise for too long. As much as I'd love to come back to reality with a lovely, golden tan, I don't think my skin can handle it. I'll have to stick with my natural pasty complexion for now.
Ah well, at least I can take comfort in knowing that my imagination is on point. And who knows? Maybe if I close my eyes tight enough, I'll be able to conjure up a little sunshine after all. ????

    Happy Monday everyone! ????

  • Did you know that the shortest war in recorded history lasted only 38 minutes?

The Anglo-Zanzibar War was fought between the United Kingdom and the Zanzibar Sultanate on 27 August 1896. The conflict started when Sultan Khalid bin Barghash refused to abdicate the throne, following the death of the previous Sultan.

The UK, who had a protectorate over the island, demanded that Khalid step down in favor of Sultan Hamoud bin Mohammed. When Khalid refused, the British launched a naval bombardment, which quickly overwhelmed the Zanzibari defenses and forced Khalid to flee. The war was over almost as soon as it began, with only one British soldier injured.
