HIS WORD ABOVE HIS NAME(PS.138:2)
WHO SAYS GOD DOESN'T ANSWER OUR PRAYERS ?
(MATT. 7:9-11)
9. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10. Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? (Mat 7: 9-11)
Of course by now,my style of evangelism isn't new to anyone who reads our submissions. MY LIFE'S STRUGGLES TO BE AT PERFECT TANDEM WITH GOD'S WORD...IN ORDER WORDS,I TRY TO USE MY WEAKNESSES TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS IN SIMILAR SITUATION.
For sometime,it felt I have been rejected by God and my heavens were closed.(This doesn't include intercession for others). At the point of despair, I resolved to hold on to my Father's Word and search and found some reasons for what we may see as unanswered prayers. Many times when we feel abandoned by God,He is actually working behind the scene in our favour. I've given so many examples of this before in our previous studies.
HERE ARE SOME REASONS WHY GOD WON'T ANSWER OUR PRAYERS;
Nearly every Christian I’ve met desires to have an effective prayer life. Many, however, don’t realize that the Bible outlines several things that will actually cause our prayers to be unanswered. In order to pray effectively, we must avoid some of the following things:
Wrong motives
“When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” – James 4:3
The easiest way to avoid wrong motives is to consider whether the request is selfish or not. For example, “Lord please give me a G-wagon when you have a healthy Toyota Camry” is a selfish prayer. We must ask according to God’s Will and not our own. What is God’s will? Your wardrobe is overflowing with clothes you haven't even worn once, but you're asking God for what you consider to be in vogue, etc. The Bible has a lot to say about that.
Unconfessed sin
But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. – Isaiah 59:2
Know this, that the accuser of the brethren can use what you see as a very infinitesimal sin to deny you of your answer.
James tells us that the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. (James 5:16) If, however, we don’t find ourselves in a righteous state, we are praying ineffectively. The good news is that we can made righteous as soon as we confess our sins! 1 John 1:9 tells us that when there is sin in our lives God will cleanse us from all unrighteousness the moment we confess it. Then we can approach a Holy God with boldness and confidence (Hebrews 4:16) because of what Jesus has accomplished for us on the cross.
He makes us righteous! He makes our prayers effective.
Pride
But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“God opposes the proud, but shows favour to the humble.” – James 4:6
For many of us, PRIDE IS OUR KILLER. We are quick to remove God out of the equation with a little success in our lives.
THIS IS THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRIST JESUS' SAYING THAT, IT WILL BE EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO PASS THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE THAN FOR A RICH MAN TO ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD...PRIDE. I'VE EXPLAINED IT PREVIOUS STUDIES.
Pride was the first sin ever committed. (Isaiah 14:12-26) It separates us from a loving Father who wants to know us and answer our prayer. How do you get rid of pride? It’s a choice. You must choose to submit your will to God and trust that His will is better than your will. Pride says, “I know what’s best for me.” Humility says, “Not my will, but yours be done.”
Doubt
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. – James 1:6
Here, satan also plays a big role in reminding us of the reasons why God won't ever answer our prayers, and that we are only wasting our time. PLEASE BRETHREN, WHEN THE DEVIL COMES REMINDING YOU OF AN ALREADY CONFESSED SIN...KICK hIM OUT WITH GOD'S WORD THAT CHRIST JESUS' RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOW IMPUTED IN YOU.
Faith is always a key component to prayer. During Christ Jesus’ time on earth we saw Him attracted to Faith, yet there was a city where HE couldn’t perform any miracles because of people’s doubt and lack of faith. When we come to God in prayer we have to believe that God can actually do the very thing we’re praying for.
Family conflict
In 1 Peter 3:7, Peter shows us that if there is marital conflict our prayers will be hindered. Peter is particularly addressing the fact that husbands were to honour their wives.
So men, love and honour your wives, not only will your prayers be more effective, but your overall (Matthew 15:38) satisfaction in life will increase drastically.
REMEMBER THIS ALWAYS, THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT (OUR GREATEST INTERCESSOR GIVEN TO US BY OUR EVER GOOD GOD[Rom.8:26] ) NEVER THRIVES IN AN ATMOSPHERE OF RANCOUR.
Let all things be done decently and in order. (1Co 14: 40)
Not the right time
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. – Isaiah 55:8-9
I'VE LEARNED FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE THAT, WHEN YOU GIVE GOD A DEADLINE, YOU GIVE YOURSELF A DEADEND... BELOVED,LEARN TO DEPEND ON GOD'S TIMING FOR YOU... DON'T EVEN GO FOR GOD'S PERMISSIVE WILL,LIKE BALAAM.
Just because we haven’t received an answer to prayer doesn’t mean it’s a no. Sometimes, it’s not yet. God knows what’s best for you. Trust that He knows what’s best and that His timing is perfect.
You never asked
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (Jas 4: 2)
Probably the biggest reason for unanswered prayers is simply the fact that we do not ask. Our heavenly Father is a good God who loves to answer our prayers and give good gifts to us. In fact, we honour Him when we ask Him to do the things that only He can do us. HE KNOWS WHAT WE NEED EVEN MORE THAN US...BUT HE YET WANTS US TO ASK.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Mat 7: 7)
For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. (Mat 6: 32)
Always Rest in God’s Goodness And You Will Never Be Disappointed...HE IS NEVER A GOD OF ABANDONED PROJECTS!
Few things can drive us to question God’s character like unanswered prayers. We may echo the psalmist’s question, “Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” (Ps. 77:9). If I’m honest, questions like his resonate with me in the face of certain unanswered prayers. At times I can be tempted to doubt God’s goodness to me.
But Christ Jesus’ Words have brought me great comfort:
Which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! (Matt. 7:9–11)
