Ivan Sutherland created the first CAD system in early 1963, based on his PhD thesis at MIT titled “Sketchpad: a man-machine graphical communication system." Here he draws a bridge design on a cathode ray tube, using the interactive controls. The computer was massive and took up an entire building.
