  • Some of my potato plants got frost burnt before they could mature so I had to go and harvest what was under them. I also took the chance to move the soil from the removed plants and place add it to the healthier plants for more nutrients and protection. This is called "I don't really know if it's called anything ", but it's a good way to take advantage of a bad situation. Anyway, really good meal, the freshly harvested potatoes were delicious!

  • Ohio residents see dead fish, chickens following toxic chemical spill from train derailment

In one TikTok video posted by a person who said they grew up near East Palestine, they said that videos sent by friends show "a really pretty chemical rainbow sheen" on top of the water where dead fish were spotted.

"The chemicals are in the f*cking water and they’re lying to the rest of the country saying they’re not. The water’s been contaminated, the soil’s been contaminated, the f*cking air is contaminated. You literally are about to see some of the worst f*cking health side effects coming out of people in that town, it’s not even funny," they claimed, adding that FEMA and the Red Cross never came to the town.

  • The Blue Soil Hills is probably one of Sagada’s best kept secrets. It’s tucked within the mountainous terrains of thousand old limestones. As its name suggests, it is a roll of hills in a lovely color of faint blue no bigger than a square kilometer surrounded by towering pine trees.

  • Would you have guessed this beautiful specimen was a pea? It most certainly is! It's a #WhitePea or #Lathyrus sativus L. It's not your normal cultivated variety, but is edible and beneficial. All parts of the Pea plant are edible, though you will want to eat it as a side dish, not the main course and not often. While it is both #edible and #medicinal, if you consume too much it can cause neurological issues that could lead to paralysis of the lower limbs.

The good news is that in moderate quantities it's actually great for your brain and it's being studied as a possible treatment for Alzheimer's and hypoxia. As a matter of fact it may help neuroreceptors responsible for memory to enjoy a longer life cycle. It's also exceptionally high in protein and fiber.

The best part is that they are super hardy and work with the enzymes in the soil to help maximize the nitrogen around them. For this reason they are also called green manure, because they are almost as beneficial when tilled into the soil. They could go a long way towards helping agriculture cut down on the chemical fertilizers they use. They used to do this back in the day, which is probably the reason I found them in abundance where I did.

These were found in the #NebraskaSandhills where I've been spending a lot of time lately. The #Sandhills soils are not great for crops and are essential to filter the waters that fill the #OgallallaAquifer, which lays beneath them. Because of this they are used to free range cattle and the White Pea as well as other varieties of native Peas and Vetches are a great source of feed for them. I'll bet #Ranchers in the early days sowed these throughout the sandhills for their livestock.

  • My method for turning over virgin earth and making soil is simple, I just make a trench, then work in about a two foot wide section digging out the rocks and throwing them in a pile. Got a little help from my brother’s girl Adelina so I’m almost done!

  • How can we combat climate change? How can regenerative agriculture save our planet?
I have watched a documentary called "Kiss The Ground" and I was amazed by how we can actually do something in order to save our planet for the future generation.
Responsible management of land through reduced tilling, limits on nitrogen fertilizers, use of cover crops, and prioritization of animal and plant diversity. Tilling loosens the soil, disturbing microorganisms that live within it, drying it out so that it does not retain as much moisture and can blow away, and releasing carbon into the atmosphere.
We have to advocate organic farming and do the right thing.

  • Digging a new septic pit for the new outside toilet enclosure I'm going to build. The soil is very porous and there will only be toilet wasate so I'm guessing about 5 feet deep should suffice. Dug under these big roots then used chainsaw to remove, about one more foot to go!
