The bad news is that a U.K. water provider has started installing “smart” water meters without notifying residents. The good news is that a ban has been extended on forcing the installation of prepayment #smartmeters.

In the U.K., #smartmeters have earned a very bad reputation, most notably because energy providers have forced ½ million of the poorest households onto prepayment smart meters which can make their bills even higher.

Utility companies keeping forcing #smartmeters on consumers because it allows them to remotely control and/or ration energy use as well as collect consumer usage data 24/7 to sell and/or share with 3rd parties. 

Utility companies and other “smart” meter proponents insist that #smartmeters are essential for “energy efficiency”, even though research continues to prove otherwise.

Opposition to utility #smartmeters has been ongoing worldwide since they started being deployed over a decade ago, due to a range of issues that should prompt consumer choice.

Increasingly anxious consumers are constantly reminded by their #smartmeters that they at risk for having their power instantly shut off. 

Half a million of the poorest households have been forced to accept prepayment #smartmeters which can make their bills even higher.

While proponents continue to insist that #smartmeters are necessary for “energy efficiency”, research continues to prove otherwise.

Of course, resolving “prepayment” issues are crucial for vulnerable UK households; however, this won’t necessarily stop energy providers from forcing the installation of hazardous non-prepayment #smartmeters on homes.

Complaints about #smartmeters have led to Americans filing lawsuits as well as demanding “opt-out” programs and protective legislation. 

No matter what kind of #smartmeters have been installed, they often don’t operate properly, which is also currently happening again in the UK. 

In the U.K., “smart” meter complaints and issues have increased significantly as ½ million of the poorest households are being forced to take prepay #SmartMeters when they can’t afford to prepay.

Utilities encourage or sometimes force #SmartMeters in order to remotely control and/or ration energy use, as well as collect consumer usage data 24/7. Meanwhile, pre-payment meters have arrived.

Documented issues associated with #SmartMeters include billing errors/higher bills, cybersecurity risks, installation mishaps, mechanical issues, harmful radiation emissions, short life spans as well as fires and explosions.
