  • 5 killed, hundreds injured in violent clashes between job quota protesters in Bangladesh
Near-daily marches this month have demanded an end to a quota system that reserves more than half of civil service posts for specific groups, including children of heroes from the country’s 1971 liberation war against Pakistan. Critics say the scheme benefits children of pro-government groups that back Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 76, who won her fourth consecutive election in January after a vote without genuine opposition

At least five demonstrators were killed in Bangladesh on Tuesday during violent clashes between rival student groups over quotas for coveted government jobs, police said, a day after more than 400 others were injured.

Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as university students battled with counter-protesters backing the ruling Awami League party, fighting with sticks and hurling rocks.

The violence marks an escalation in efforts to hinder a determined weekslong campaign of sit-in protests and street marches that has ignored calls by Bangladesh’s prime minister and top court for students to return to class.

Three people were killed in the port city of Chittagong.

“All three had bullet injuries,” Chittagong Medical College Hospital director Mohammad Taslim Uddin told AFP.

    “Some 35 people were injured.”

Rival student groups marched in several key locations around the capital Dhaka, some throwing bricks at each other, with traffic in the city of 20 million almost ground to a halt.

  • WATCH: Viral video captures devastating tornado tearing through southern Indiana
Harsh weather across the Midwestern United States of America on Tuesday resulted in a tornado, and it was captured tearing the roof off a home in southern Indiana.

This dangerous storm pattern continues after Monday’s severe weather outbreak, which brought damage and tornadoes to Oklahoma, reported Daily Mail.

Drone footage shows a twister spinning west of Georgetown, Indiana, around 1 pm on Tuesday. The video shows how the tornado lifted parts of a structure and sent debris flying. The storm chasers said the footage shows the tornado ripping off a roof, throwing it 100-feet high in the air.

Fox Weather reported that during the tornado, a “Tornado Watch” was in effect for parts of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio, due to severe storms with potential tornadoes, hail, and dangerous winds. Georgetown was also under a tornado warning on Tuesday evening.

Reacting to the video, one social media user said, “I hope people and animals are fine!” Another user commented, “Oh No the COSTCOOOOOOO.” A third user wrote, “It’s twisted.”

  • S'pore wants to produce vaccines for the region, not just for local consumption: Alvin Tan
By 2026, Singapore will be capable of end-to-end vaccine production.

Attracting pharmaceuticals and vaccine manufacturers such as Sanofi Pasteur and Thermo Fisher Scientific to situate themselves in Singapore is not just for local benefit, but for the region and the rest of the world as well.

Singapore to be capable of end-to-end vaccine production by 2026

Minister of State for Trade and Industry (MTI), and Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) Alvin Tan shared this insight during a plenary session at the St. Gallen Symposium on May 5, in response to a question about what leaders can do to handle the pandemic globally, and ensure that vaccines get to everybody.

Tan was speaking to about 2,000 participants from across the world at the 50th edition of the symposium, a three-day event (May 5- 7) supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Economic Development Board (EDB).

Singapore has been in talks with several pharmaceuticals to manufacture vaccines and therapeutics locally, including Sanofi and Thermo Fisher.

Both companies will be situating their vaccine facilities in Singapore.

Tan added that by 2026, Singapore will be capable of end-to-end vaccine production.

The move is to ensure that Singapore has a steady supply of vaccines, and can overcome challenges posed by supply chain disruptions, said Tan.

Not just for Singaporeans, but for the world too

However, Tan shared that bringing the facilities to Singapore is not only for local consumption, but for the region and the world as well.

"And not just in terms of vaccine supply, but in terms of research, investment, and enterprise," Tan said.

Tan noted Singapore's limitations as a small island state, and the vulnerabilities and constraints Singapore has to overcome.

"It's not natural that we would be a vaccine manufacturer; it's not natural that we are a hub for services for carbon sequestration and trading," Tan said.

"So we've always have had to...punch above our weight, secure the factors that will help us overcome our vulnerabilities, but also be relevant to the world", he said.

Playing a role in helping global fight against Covid-19

Adding to his point about Singapore's goal to supply vaccines beyond local consumption, he said that the government was aware that the Covid-19 virus "respects no borders".

He pointed out that Singapore lacked the luxury of larger countries such as the United States and China to be able to close their borders, despite a slight rise in local cases in recent weeks.

Hence, he suggested a need to cooperate with other countries in order to handle the pandemic globally, adding that Singapore has played a part in sending aid to India, a country seeing record numbers of daily cases in the midst of its second wave.

Tan mentioned the example of Singapore doing its part by sending 256 oxygen cylinders to India.

Tan also wanted Singapore to play a key role in the global fight against Covid-19.

"We will produce not just for ourselves. In fact, we cannot just produce for ourselves, but we want to be a research hub for the world, and also a keynote in the supply chain to service the world", he said.

    Only location with participants

This year's St Gallen Symposium has adopted a hybrid format, with live panels and discussions streamed from St Gallen in Switzerland, Singapore, and the United States.

Singapore is the only location with participants attending the conference.

Hosted by UBS, this is the first time Singapore is holding an event concurrently with the actual symposium in Switzerland.

  • Israeli strikes continue unabated, ripping Palestinian bodies apart – Day 281
[email protected] July 15, 2024 mawasi attack, netzah yehuda, nuseirat attack

The New Arab reports: Izzat al-Risheq, a member of Hamas’s political office, refuted claims that the group has withdrawn from ceasefire negotiations.

“There is no truth to what was reported by the media about the movement stopping negotiations,” al-Risheq stated.

These comments followed a report by news agency AFP, citing an unnamed senior Hamas official, claiming the group was pulling out of truce talks due to Israel’s “stalling” and ongoing “massacres” of civilians in Gaza.

However, Israeli broadcaster Kan, referencing a diplomat claimed to be familiar with the discussions, reported that negotiations are still scheduled to take place this week in Doha, Qatar.

Israeli battalion that committed gross human rights abuses is shaping the fight in Gaza

CNN reports: Former commanders of the Netzah Yehuda battalion, an Israeli military unit that has been accused by the United States of gross human rights violations against Palestinians in the Israeli-occupied West Bank prior to October 7, have been promoted to senior positions in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and are now active in training Israeli ground troops as well as running operations in Gaza, a CNN investigation has found.

Among CNN’s findings was rare whistleblower testimony from a former soldier of the unit who described a command that encouraged a culture of violence, an issue identified by US State Department investigations.

In April, the State Department said that it had determined five Israeli security units had committed gross violations of human rights prior to the outbreak of the war with Hamas in Gaza. The department said that four of the units had “effectively remediated,” or reformed themselves, in the wake of those violations, but that it was still deciding whether to restrict US military assistance to the remaining unit: The Netzah Yehuda battalion, originally created to accommodate ultra-Orthodox Jews in the military.

The news that the US might withhold assistance from the Israeli military unit triggered a furious response at the time from top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said: “If anyone thinks they can impose sanctions on a unit of the IDF, I will fight with all my strength.”

In a letter obtained by CNN, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told House Speaker Mike Johnson that the US was working with Israel “on identifying a path to effective remediation” for the Netzah Yehuda battalion.

Biden, Netanyahu to Meet Two Days Before Israeli PM Addresses Congress

Ha’aretz reports: U.S. President Joe Biden will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington next week, days before the PM addresses Congress on July 24.

Biden and Netanyahu’s relationship has become strained and tense over the past few months, as the war in Gaza continues.

President Biden recently held back a shipment of 2,000-pound bombs intended for Israel – while allowing massive quantities of other weaponry and vehicles to be sent

NOTE: The Leahy Laws require the US to withhold aid to countries that commit Gross Human Rights Violations – but in spite of overwhelming proof of widespread abuse by Israel, our politicians have thus far declined to cut off military support, and have managed only minor sanctions against a few settler groups.

The US has made special efforts to create loopholes for Israel, has bypassed congressional oversight on at least two major weapons transfers since October 7th, and has “quietly approved and delivered more than 100 separate foreign military sales to Israel since the Gaza war began.”

POTUS tweet, October 18, 2023 "I spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the situation on the ground, security assistance and humanitarian needs, and information on unaccounted Americans. I asked tough questions as a friend of Israel. We will continue to deter any actor wanting to widen this conflict."

    STATISTICS OCTOBER 7 – JULY 14:

Palestinian death toll from October 7 – July 14: at least 39,157* (38,584 in Gaza* – 11,445 women (30%), 16,034 children as of June 17. [The Ministry’s figures have been contested by the Israeli authorities, although they have been accepted as accurate by Israeli intelligence services, the UN, and WHO. These data are supported by independent analyses, comparing changes in the number of deaths of UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) staff with those reported by the Ministry, which found claims of data fabrication implausible.]

This is expected to be a significant undercount since thousands of those killed have yet to be identified – and at least 573 in the West Bank (~138 children). This does not include an estimated 10,000 more still buried under rubble (4,900 women and children). Euro-Med Monitor reports 46,848 Palestinian deaths.

Lancet: “Applying a conservative estimate of four indirect deaths per one direct death9 to the 37,396 deaths reported, it is not implausible to estimate that up to 186 000 or even more deaths could be attributable to the current conflict in Gaza.

Ralph Nader earlier estimated 200,000 Palestinians may have been killed in Gaza.

At least 46 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons (27 from Gaza, 18 from West Bank).
At least 40 Palestinians have died due to malnutrition**.
About 1.7 million, or 75% of Gaza’s population are currently displaced.
2.15 million (out of total population of 2.3 million) are projected to face Crisis or worse levels of food insecurity.
Palestinian injuries from October 7 – July 14: at least 94,301 (including at least 88,881 in Gaza and 5,420 in the West Bank, including 830 children).

[It remains unknown how many Americans are among the casualties in Gaza.]
Reported Israeli death toll from October 7 – July 14: ~1,478 (~1,139 on October 7, 2023, of which ~32 were Americans, and ~36 were children); 326 military forces since the ground invasion began in Gaza; 16 in the West Bank) and~8,730 injured.

Times of Israel reports: The IDF listed 41 soldiers killed due to friendly fire in Gaza and other military-related accidents – nearly 16%.

NOTE: It is unknown at this time how many of the deaths and injuries in Israel on October 7 were caused by Israeli soldiers.

*Previously, IAK did not include 471 Gazans killed in the Al Ahli hospital blast since the source of the projectile was being disputed. However, given that much evidence points to Israel as the culprit, Israel had previously bombed the hospital and has attacked many others, Israel is prohibiting outside experts from investigating the scene, and since the UN and other agencies are including the deaths from the attack in their cumulative totals, if Americans knew is now also doing so.**

Euro-Med Monitor reports that Gaza’s elderly are dying at an alarmingly high rate. The majority die at home and are buried either close to their residences or in makeshift graves dispersed across the Strip. There are currently more than 140 such cemeteries. Additionally, according to Euromed, thousands have died from starvation, malnourishment, and inadequate medical care; these are considered indirect victims as they were not registered in hospitals.

† For most of the conflict, women and children accounted for about 70% of deaths in Gaza, with children making up a little over 40% of those killed, according to official statistics.

• Make Meat Great Again! Don’t Let The Globalists Pull This Off
    Corey Lynn

It’s 2023, and most people are scurrying about their days making plans for the Holidays and figuring out whether to serve up a roast, a turkey or a ham. Meanwhile, over 70,000 clowns are toasting champagne at their 5 star hotels in Dubai while thinking they can tell people whether or not a roast, a turkey, or a ham is allowed. While flying around in their private jets, they giggle as they cook up their conspiracy theory on “climate change” to convince people to eat less meat. While they’re dancing with politicians and coercing nations to set new policies and regulations to harm the productivity of farmers and ranchers – our food source – people should be supporting them and stand together in defiance of this nonsense.

The funny thing is, while these clowns conspire and celebrate their narrative to save the planet, in part by the absurdity of reducing meat consumption, many of these same clowns are supporters of Merck and were pushing for a vote at Codex to inject cattle, pigs, and poultry with Merck’s toxic steroid-like drug zilpaterol hydrochloride to produce more muscle and less fat. This of course brings a fortune to Merck, while benefiting the bottom line for ranchers who are ok with poisoning their livestock and humans. How’s that for an oxymoron? That’s right, on November 28th, while the clowns sipped champagne on their private jets headed to the COP28 in Dubai to “save the world from climate change” and instruct nations to reduce meat consumption, their counterparts were at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, voting to approve this poison.

So the question is – do they want to reduce meat consumption or do they want to muscle up the meat and make it more desirable to eat so people devour toxins? Perhaps it’s both. Who can keep track anymore? The cocktails are endless, from GMOs to hormones, antibiotics, DNA and mRNA, or growing meat in a petri dish or 3D printing it. These globalists want to make it so inedible, no one will want to consume meat.

According to Scott Tips, President of The National Health Federation, who attends these Codex meetings to fight for the safety of consumers, this is all about money, and by adopting the Codex standard zilpaterol can “flood the world markets unobstructed.” This would allow Merck to force all of the countries who voted against it to open their markets to zilpaterol-tainted meat as well. Most of the western hemisphere has already been using zilpaterol despite the fact that there has never been a risk assessment done, it’s banned from use in horses because it’s not safe, and Merck actually withdrew it from the market in 2015 before working its way back in. At that time, under Merck’s brand name “Zilmax,” even Cargill and Tyson suspended their purchases of Zilmax-fed cattle in North America.

The many-years-long battle against the toxic vet drug came to an end when the Commission voted 88-49 with 11 abstentions to approve zilpaterol MRLs (maximum residue levels). Scott Tips reported that those “speaking against the standard were the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, China, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Iraq, UAE, Algeria, Belarus, Syria, Tunisia, North Macedonia, and Cameroon. Those pushing the standard were the United States, Canada, New Zealand, many African states, and every single one of the Western-hemisphere countries. The UK remained strangely aloof, as if wishing to avoid offending anyone.”

Back in the U.S., Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) has been trying to get the PRIME Act passed for nearly 6 years, but feels he is beginning to make headway now. If passed, the PRIME Act will make it much easier for local farms to compete with the handful of big meat companies, by allowing safe, local processing options rather than a farmer having to travel for hours to a USDA-inspected processing facility.

According to Rep. Massie, “Current law exempts custom slaughter of animals from federal inspection regulations, but only if the meat is slaughtered for personal, household, guest, and employee use (21 U.S.C. § 623(a)). This means that in order to sell individual cuts of locally raised meats to consumers, farmers and ranchers must first send their animals to one of a limited number of USDA-inspected slaughterhouses. These USDA-inspected slaughterhouses are sometimes hundreds of miles away from farms and ranches, adding substantial transportation costs and increasing the chances of locally raised meat co-mingling with industrially-produced meat. The PRIME Act would expand the current custom exemption and allow small farms, ranches, and slaughterhouses to thrive.”

While the battle on meat continues, it’s important for everyone to do their due diligence when it comes to shopping for and purchasing meat. According to the USDA, in March they released a proposed rule with new regulatory requirements on those voluntary “Product of USA” labels, whereby the claim can only be used on meat, poultry and egg products if they are derived from animals that are born, raised, slaughtered and processed in the USA. So pay attention to the labels – on all food for that matter. There are some small farms that offer co-ops whereby several people can go in on the ownership of cattle and split the beef. There are also a handful of companies who ship bundles of beef. In either case, it’s always important to confirm how the cattle are raised and processed, and if they are given zilpaterol, antibiotics, hormones, or mRNA. Always support your local farmers, whether it be for meat, vegetables, fruit, raw milk, or other items. They are quite literally our key to survival, unless of course you are able to grow enough food and raise livestock to support your entire family on an annual basis. They deserve our support and respect.

Corey’s Digs has done extensive research on an incredible, fully vertically integrated large ranching operation in the U.S. who controls their entire supply chain. It’s quite impressive. The cattle are all pasture raised on over 290,000 combined acres by their own mothers. This is a premium lineage of all Prime and High Choice, with the processing facility being right on the ranch, and the beef is aged for 21 days before shipping. Never ever zilpaterol, antibiotics, hormones, mRNA, or vaccines. They ship a variety of bundles monthly or every other month, along with individual added cuts, straight from the ranch to a customer’s home. The biggest difference is the taste – it’s amazing how delicious Prime beef is without all those toxins. The beef is exclusive to members through Shopping Club Freedom, which boasts hundreds of non toxic products that everyone uses in their daily lives, all of which are patented and produced by this same company right here in the U.S. It’s one heck of a solution to ensure access to healthy products and beef while sticking it to the globalists who want to rule everyone’s life, which is why Corey’s Digs has partnered with them and has been shopping there for over two years now.

No one should let these madmen make choices for them or their families. Everyone should support U.S. farmers and ranchers, get behind Rep. Massie’s PRIME Act, and don’t buy the poison these globalists are selling.

‘Chance’ to achieve ceasefire deal as talks set to continue in Qatar

The Israeli negotiations team returned from Qatar after the first meetings of the resumed ceasefire talks on Wednesday to update the government ahead of upcoming talks in Cairo, Israel’s Channel 12 reported.

On Wednesday, the heads of the Israeli Mossad, the CIA, and the Egyptian intelligence met in Doha with Qatar’s Prime Minister to discuss a potential deal with Hamas, as several Israeli and U.S. sources reported “progress” in the talks to reach a deal with the Palestinian group. In Washington, U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, said that Washington sees an opportunity to reach a ceasefire and prisoners’ exchange deal in Gaza.

Meanwhile, the Israeli news site, Walla, quoted an unnamed Israeli official involved in the talks saying that the remaining issues to reach an agreement on are the return of displaced Palestinians to the northern Gaza Strip, the names of high-ranking Palestinian prisoners to be released, and the Israeli withdrawal from the Philadelphi corridor along the Egyptian border.

For its part, Hamas said in a statement that Israel is prolonging the talks in order to sabotage them. The group added that it had not informed mediators of any updates regarding the talks.

Last week, Israeli media reported that leaders of Israeli security branches were “shocked” at Netanyahu’s statements setting preconditions for a deal. Israeli daily Haaretz also published a report saying that Netanyahu had used sensitive intelligence information and leaked it to the media in order to sabotage previous talks in recent months.

Netanyahu, who leads a fragile government coalition with allies opposed to ending the war, said on Wednesday that any coming deal must allow Israel to resume the war after releasing its captives, and that the war “will continue to achieve its goals.”

Israel destroys Shuja’yya, tells Palestinians in Gaza City to leave

The Israeli army has made the Shujaiyeh neighborhood east of Gaza City “uninhabitable” after its destruction in the ongoing assault, which Israel began in the neighborhood two weeks ago, the Palestinian Civil Defense said on Thursday.

The Civil Defense added that its teams had been able to recover at least 60 dead bodies from some areas of Shuja’iyya, while indicating that Israeli forces were blocking the Civil Defense and medical teams from reaching parts of the neighborhood. The Israeli army launched a surprise attack on Shuja’iyya on June 26, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

Israel had attacked Shuja’iyya in December of last year and confronted heavy resistance from Palestinian groups. Fighting between Israeli forces and Palestinian resistance groups in Shuja’iyya broke out again since the beginning of the current assault. Last week, the Israeli army admitted that two of its officers were killed in Shuja’iyya.

Israeli renewed its ground assault on Gaza City last week, pushing forces into the western parts of the city. On Wednesday, Israeli forces dropped leaflets in Gaza City, telling residents to flee south to Deir al-Balah. Israeli strikes also intensified on the city’s neighborhoods, such as the Daraj, Tal al-Hawa, and Sabra neighborhoods.

In the south of the Strip, Israeli forces killed at least 29 Palestinians in a bombing of a school sheltering displaced families in Abasan, east of Khan Younis, and wounded 53. CNN reported that the remains of Israeli bombs used in the Abasan massacre show that they were US-made GBU-39 bombs. On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Biden administration decided to send new 500-pound bombs to Israel.

  • Intermittent Fasting Myths Expertly Debunked in New Video
    Anthony Colpo

As regular readers will know, I recently released a book on intermittent fasting (IF) and time restricted eating (TRE) called Not So Fast.

The bulk of the book deals with the misleading fat loss/weight loss claims made for IF and TRE. Instead of relying on anecdote or forum bro-science, I carefully review each of the published, peer-reviewed studies that compared IF diets with more conventional calorie-restricted diets.

I do the same for TRE, but in that case I also include studies with non-calorie-restricted regular diets, because many of the TRE groups in those studies were instructed to eat ad libitum (without restriction) in their assigned eating windows.

Those studies show the lavish weight loss claims made for IF and TRE are pure bunkum.

In many of the studies, there is no difference in fat or weight loss between groups. When differences were noted in favour of IF or TRE, it was entirely explained by differences in caloric intake.

Many of you may be familiar with Dave Asprey, a self-proclaimed "biohacker" who I consider the epitome of pseudoscience (you can read my dissection of his "Bulletproof Coffee" bollockery here).

Asprey has convinced a lot of people he holds the keys to anti-aging, and charges thousands to share those 'secrets' at “Biohacking” conferences. In a January 2021 story, he claimed to have spent $2 million on his quest to “biohack” his way to eternal youth, but by December 2022 had revised that figure down to $300,000. He’s a former Silicon Valley tech entrepreneur, which probably explains the dodgey figures.

A grey-haired Asprey, now 50, who claims to have spent … well, lots … on “biohacking”.
In his book Fast This Way, Asprey writes, in a section titled "PAY NO MIND TO THE CALORIE COPS" (pages 60-61):

"Nothing makes you feel more like a failure than enduring suffering to lose 25 pounds, only to gain them back in a few weeks, plus a dozen more."

And nothing makes you realize you're dealing with a world-class BSer than the fantasmagorical claim you can gain 37 pounds in only a few weeks, when even deliberate overfeeding studies fail to replicate such an astonishing rate of weight gain.

Even the Guinness Book of World Records lists the greatest ever alleged weight gain at 325 lb (147 kg) over 12 months. That averages out at 27 lbs per month, which casts serious doubt on the veracity of Asprey's 37 lb-in-a-month claim.

Not to be deterred, Asprey continues with more utter bollocks:

"... the 'calories in, calories out' model, commonly abbreviated as CICO, should be relegated to the dustbin of failed science. This approach treats your body as though it's a meat robot when in reality it's a dynamic system that responds to calories differently based on their source, the time they're consumed, and the unique physiological makeup of the person consuming them. Yet the myth lives on, leaving obesity, shame, and suffering in its wake."

Oh boy. It's hard to know where to start with such complete and utter hogwash.

CICO will never be relegated to the dustbin of science, because it has been verified time and time again by real scientists, as opposed to reality-denying diet gurus and 'biohackers'.

Time and again, I've challenged the anti-CICO reality-deniers to book themselves into a metabolic ward, and prove their claim that you can gain or lose different amounts of weight (from fat, not dehydration, diarrhea or glycogen losses) on their pet diet when compared to an isocaloric high-carb/mixed diet, and in every instance my challenge has been met with deafening silence.

There's a good reason: It's an impossible challenge to meet, because it defies physiological reality.

Asprey's claim that CICO can be rendered invalid by "the unique physiological makeup of the person consuming [calories]" is a real crack-up.

Again, I've been asking for proof of the existence of these metabolic freaks-of-nature to whom the laws of nature have been magically suspended, but again, my requests keep drawing a blank.

Scientists haven't been able to find them either, as decades of metabolic ward studies have confirmed. Even a ward study commissioned and funded by NuSI, a low-carb propaganda outfit masquerading as a non-profit, failed to produce the magical "metabolic advantage" that flabby diet gurus incessantly wank on about.

All someone like Asprey needs to do is give a small portion of his millions to researchers, who can then put out the call for these freaks of nature to live in a metabolic ward for a set period of time. When these subjects lose more weight on a IF/TRE/low-carb/keto diet than on an isocaloric mixed diet, or they lose weight despite eating more than their verified energy maintenance needs - as some especially shameless/deluded diet gurus would have you believe is possible - then we can start questioning CICO.

Until then, the only thing that should be questioned is the ethics and motives of people who make nonsensical statements about diet and calories they know full well have no scientific backing.

When people follow IF and TRE diets and proceed to lose weight, it's for one reason and one reason only: They created a calorie deficit.

Just because you're not actively counting calories, it does not change one iota the fact you still consumed a calorie deficit. I've been driving manual cars for so long that I don't even think about changing gears. If you were to ask me immediately after a drive how many times I just changed gears, I'd have absolutely no idea because I wasn't counting. That doesn't mean I go around telling everyone my car's an automatic.

That would be delusional. Just like the anti-CICO crowd.

As I explain in Not So Fast, the science shows these diets do not "boost" metabolism, they do not boost growth hormone, nor do they flip some magical "metabolic switch". That's pure marketing flimflam.

In fact, TRE studies in active males found reductions in testosterone and the key thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3). That's the kind of "metabolic switch" I'll happily leave off.

Another demonstration of Asprey's anti-scientific tendencies comes when he then bangs on about Ancel Keys. The late Keys is an easy target, because he's roundly hated by anyone who knows what an outright fraud the whole anti-cholesterol/anti-saturate hysteria campaign is. But what Asprey doesn't mention is the then-groundbreaking study Keys conducted before he became an anti-cholesterol quack. This was the famous Minnesota Study, that showed when men were fed a very low-calorie mixed diet in conjunction with daily physical labor, they lost weight. Lots of it. Sometimes they lost too much weight and became emaciated. That tends to happen when you work like a lumberjack but eat like a small secretary.

When Keys and his colleagues then greatly increased the men’s caloric intakes, they gained weight. Just as CICO dictates they would. But Asprey doesn't mention the Minnesota Experiment because, like most diet hucksters, he tells a one-sided story designed to sell whatever he's peddling at the time, be it "Bulletproof" coffee or the nouveau-trendy phenomenon of skipping breakfast.

A Reality Check from New Zealand

Like Australia, there hasn't been much good to say about New Zealand over the past few years. Earlier this year however, Dr Brad Stanfield, a Primary Care Physician in Auckland, posted a very insightful video titled "Why Many People Are Abandoning Intermittent Fasting." You can watch it at the end of this post.

The video briefly discusses the fallacy of the weight loss claims, so if you want a detailed breakdown of that research, then Chapters 2 and 3 of Not So Fast are where you need to be.

But Dr Brad touches upon some additional research when he addresses some of the untenable "autophagy", hormone, glycemic and general health claims made for these diets. It's a must-watch for anyone considering these diets.

The comments below the video are also a must-read for anyone fascinated by the psychology endemic in the diet and health arena.

Many of the commenters swear IF or TRE is the best thing they ever did. That it changed their life, even. Just like low-carbers and vegans used to insist whenever I wrote anything remotely critical of their pet diet theories. Funnily enough, I don't hear from them anymore.

Look, I don't doubt many of these people did experience improvements. That happens with many diets, at least initially. And one of the major reasons is that when people embrace a new diet, they often do so as part of a sweeping "get my sh!t together" campaign that includes increasing physical activity, improving their food choices, cutting back on the booze, keeping better sleep hours, and so on.

Here are some cases in point:

Despite Dr Brad saying absolutely nothing offensive and relying on actual science in the video, some of the comments ooze butt-hurtedness.

So much so, that if I was a billionaire philanthropist, I'd offer some of the negative commenters a lifetime supply of Preparation H. Like this person:

    Wow.

I don't know why people get so ridiculously defensive about diet. Dr Brad presents the facts, and I note that a grand total of nobody in the comments section refutes even a single of the studies he cites.

He even posts links to each of the studies below the video but, hey, why let a little thing like science get in the way of knee-jerk emotional reactions?

Rest assured, however much folks like mfcypher claim to love IF and TRE, I love cannoli more. But when I meet someone who says they don't like cannoli (it's happened), as utterly shocked, astounded and flabbergasted as I might be, I don't scowl and get all Joe Pesci.

Instead, I just quietly think to myself, "wow, someone who doesn't like cannoli! The world really is full of surprises!"

Look, if someone ever posts a video earnestly claiming the best way to fight ageing and lose weight is to molest the village goat once a week, then please, get angry and indignant. At least for the goat's sake.

But when someone posts a video critiquing your pet diet, and you can't factually refute any of the abundant science he presents, and so you instead get all ad hominem and carry on like he just asked you to molest the village goat, then the problem lies not with the poster of the video.

    The problem lies with you.

As I stated in Not So Fast, I'm an information provider, not a dictator. Dr Brad hardly comes across as a domineering "my way or the highway" type either.

We present the side of the story that all the hyperbolic hucksters won't tell you, because it's the side of the story that desperately needs to be told. If IF or TRE seem to work for you, more power to you! But the reality is that they do not work for everybody, as a number of the YouTube comments would attest.

Some people do experience negative effects from IF and TRE, and this is hardly surprising given scientific research has already detected negative hormonal effects.

Don’t expect the anti-CICO crowd to tell you about these negative effects. If they can’t accept the reality of calories in, calories out, what on Earth would they know about the potential pitfalls of, say, routinely raising counterregulatory hormones?

Do they even know what counterregulatory hormones are?

Even if there was only a single person on this entire planet who could be harmed by IF and TRE, then that person has every right to know these diets may not be the best for him or her.

The reality is there are a lot more folks in the world who won't do well on these diets. Information about the potential pitfalls of IF and TRE shouldn't be withheld from these people because a bunch of IF and TRE fanboys and girls will have their remarkably fragile feelings hurt.

Anyways, here's Dr Brad's video, enjoy.

    Ciao,

    Anthony.

  • Australian Hospital Lets 17 Year Old Girl Die Because She Wouldn't Take COVID Vaxxxine
Involuntary euthanasia is still alive and well Down Under.

    Anthony Colpo

The beautiful young lady you see above was Dazelle Peters, 17, of New South Wales, who refused to take the toxic and deadly COVID gene therapies masquerading as ‘vaccines.’

Dazelle died in hospital on Monday, June 10, 2024 after a four-year battle with leukemia - and after she was refused a lung transplant by Australia’s callous health system.

Whatever chance Dazelle had of surviving was scuttled by St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, who stated their “policies and guidelines wouldn’t support transplantation” of anyone who was unvaxxxinated.

“Vaccination status against various infections is a critical part of this assessment in order to ensure optimal prospects of survival post-transplant.”

St Vincent’s claimed other considerations were at play in Dazelle’s case, but confirmed not being vaxxxinated was one of them.

After her bone marrow transplant, Dazelle suffered from graft-versus-host disease, where her body's immune system attacked the donor's blood cells. Dazelle was also battling a rare type of pneumonia.

The hospital says being immunocompromised could further complicate a transplant procedure.

Dazelle’s heartbreaking story is not unique in Auschtralia.

    No Jab, No Heart Transplant

Melbourne mum Vicki Derderian was refused a heart transplant because she hadn’t received the COVID gene therapies – even though she had an exemption.

Vicki’s heart failed in 2020, forcing her to rely on a ventricular assist device to keep blood pumping around her body.

The mum of two, who insisted she was not an anti-vaxxer, had to “think twice” about the vaccine because of her heart condition. After the vaxxxines notched up a solid track record of causing myocarditis and pericarditis, she deemed them too risky.

She slammed Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services for denying her the lifesaving surgery, saying she’d effectively been told “no jab, no heart”.

    Vicki Derderian in hospital.
On Channel 9’s Today Show, former Deputy Chief Heath Officer, Dr Nick “Captain Botox” Coatsworth, claimed he empathized with Vicki’s case, but he “stands by the rules.”

Aussie bureaucrats love standing by the rules, no matter how stupid and unjust those rules may be - after all, they need something to help them stand upright given their complete lack of spine, and they desperately need guidelines to mindlessly follow in the face of zero courage and critical thinking skills.

“From a transplant physicians point of view … the biggest risk to you when we hit your immune system like that if you get COVID-19 without having the vaccine, then there's a really significant risk that you'll die and that organ will die with you,” the clueless Coatsworth told the Today Show.

“And we don't want that to happen to you and we certainly don't want it to happen to the family whose made that sacred donation. So it is such a complex area. I don't envy your decision, but I do stand by the rules of the transplant physicians have made here.”

Today Show host Karl Stefanovic interjected.

“So Nick, doctors are now deciding not to treat someone because of the chance of getting COVID-19 in a hospital, are we stopping treating people now?”

“On the contrary Karl,” Coatsworth retorted. “This is an active treatment decision by the medical community. This hasn't changed during COVID-19.”

Today Show host Karl Stefanovic crosses his arms as he questions Dr Nick Coatsworth
Karl Stefanovic questioned Nick Coatsworth about the controversial decision. Source: Today Show
“I know there's a lot of greys in Covid-19 Karl, a lot of greys … This is black and white. Unfortunately, we have to try and convince people like Vicki and John, we've got to do our best to convince them. If we fail ultimately that means the organ isn't transplanted.”

He urged Vicki to reconsider getting the vaccine, falsely claiming the risk of complications from the cardiotoxic gene therapies was “very, very small compared to everything that you've been through so far.”

“But from my heart, I hope that you will be able to work with them and perhaps receive that vaccine. If I was in your position I'd receive it because I think it's the safest thing to do. I think it's the safest thing to do. I know you don't agree with me. I respect that decision. But please, please reconsider.”

Vicki stood her ground and said if she were to contract COVID, there are treatments available to deal with it.

According to Vicki, prior to the COVID vaxxx rollout Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital “were positive and indicated that I would be a suitable candidate for a heart transplant.”

That suddenly changed after the poison darts were unleashed.

“Despite no Government mandates for transplant patients and the Alfred’s own hospital policy (that says it does not discriminate between the vaccinated and unvaccinated) the Alfred Heart Centre team made it clear to me by September 2021 that I would not receive a heart, unless I get the Covid-19 vaccination.”

Follow the Science: Why Nick Coatsworth, St Vincent’s and the Alfred are Spewing Utter Hogwash

Nick Coatsworth and the aforementioned hospitals are all spouting utter nonsense.

Vicki was originally diagnosed in 2015 with myocarditis which progressed to cardiomyopathy. The causal connection between the COVID gene therapies and myocarditis is now well-established. Even the Australian government’s best efforts at weasel-wording (“Not all cases that occur after vaccination are caused by the vaccine”) acknowledges that most cases of myocarditis occurring after vaxxxination are caused by the vaxxx.

So what Coatsworth was saying, with a shamelessly straight face, is that taking a drug known to increase the risk of myocarditis and sudden death is “the safest thing” Vicki can do and that it poses a “very, very small” risk to her.

How do you sleep at night, Nick?

The vaxxxines are undeniably toxic and potentially deadly. So if vaxxxination status is going to be a factor in determining who gets a transplant, Dazelle and Vicki should by all rights have received preferential treatment.

In the clinical trial for the Pfizer vaxxxine, more people died in the vaxxx group than in the control group. And that was despite ample evidence of Pfizer’s renowned corruption and concerted efforts to hide adverse vaxxx events.

Here is NSW Health’s December 31, 2022 update on 'COVID' hospitalizations and deaths in Australia’s most populous state. The figures for those who had zero clot shots are highlighted in yellow, near the bottom:

Zero hospitalizations, zero ICU admissions, and only 6 fatalities (6.3%) among the unvaxxxinated that NSW Health could reclassify as ‘COVID’ deaths.

Which is no doubt why NSW Health no longer provides a breakdown of deaths by vaxxx status. It’s a bit hard to keep claiming the vaxxx saves lives when the data shows otherwise.

Surprise, Surprise: The Vaxxxines Cause Organ Rejection

Among the 1,200+ side effects and 42,086 adverse events reported to Pfizer in the first two months of its vaxxxine rollout was “Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.”

Probably not a good drug to be giving to someone suffering organ failure.

I’m not sure if Coatsworth reads journals, or whether his idea of medical research is reading cosmetic clinic brochures, but numerous case studies have been published indicating the vaxxxines increase the risk of organ rejection.

A case study published in April of 2022 revealed some lung transplant patients who had received mRNA COVID vaxxxines ended up developing “new and significant respiratory compromise after their second vaccine dose consistent with antibody mediated rejection.” All patients were female, 50-70 years old, between 6 months and 2 years post-transplant. None had suffered previous rejection episodes. However, two were hospitalized with hypoxic respiratory failure within 2 weeks of their second vaxxxine dose. The third was seen at clinic for milder similar symptoms, later deteriorating and requiring supplemental oxygen and hospitalization. One of these patients did not recover their lung function and was re-listed for transplant.

Japanese researchers analysed eighteen lung transplant recipients who received 2 doses of either the Pfizer (17) or Moderna (1) gene therapies between June and October 2021. None of the recipients had a 'Sars-Cov-2' infection prior to vaxxxination. Antibodies for the mythical Sars-Cov-2 spike protein were measured, and were detected in 2 of 18 patients after the first dose, and 5 patients after the second dose. The two patients who suffered chronic lung allograft dysfunction or antibody-mediated injection were both seropositive. The researchers concluded, “We experienced cases that developed clinical CLAD or AMR that was likely related to SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.”

In an August 21, 2021 NEJM letter, French researchers reported on transplant patients who had received three doses of the Pfizer gene therapy. Over three quarters of the patients had kidney transplants. They claimed there were no serious adverse events among the patients, but the study’s appendix reveals 10 patients who were seropositive before the third dose presented with fatigue and myalgia, while five patients presented transient fever.

Once again, there is no evidence COVID vaxxxination helps transplant patients; the research so far indicates the exact opposite.

The no vaxxx, no transplant rule has nothing to do with patient welfare. It is designed to punish and eliminate those who refuse to be injected with the globalist kill shots.

The Hypocrite Oath: First, Do Harm to Dissidents

Dazelle's father, Josh Peters, who has also shunned the toxic COVID shots, said a surgeon told his daughter if she did not get the jabs and then caught the virus she would be a “major threat to everyone (in the hospital) who has done the right thing.”

Mindlessly obeying a bunch of globalist-controlled deviants when they tell you to take poisonous substances is never the “right thing.”

“The way he made us feel was that they didn't want to give her the lung transplant,” Josh told Daily Mail Australia.

Josh said during a May 9 consultation at St Vincent's the surgeon said the hospital would give the lungs to a better candidate because Dazelle was a “complex case.”

Josh insisted his family did everything to make Dazelle a suitable candidate for a transplant, except get the four gene therapy shots which would have taken nine months to administer.

'Vaccines are only a small part of the process to get a lung transplant," Josh said.

"They are a Catholic hospital. They have all taken an oath to help people and take care of people and do the right thing by people."

"Who deems that she doesn't deserve a chance over anybody else?"

"This is no game. This child is f***ing sick man," said Josh while Dazelle was still fighting for her life.

Josh said doctors told them Dazelle always “gets the worst of the worst of side effects,” and this strengthened her resolve not to get the shots.

“That's another reason she personally, not us, doesn't want to get the shots. Her heart's not good, her kidney's not good, her liver's not good, she's a mess,” he said.

Josh rejected the label he and his family were 'anti-vaxxers.'

"Our children have had every single vaccination that they are meant to have," he said.

"We even got the flu shots right up until Covid started hitting."

Before her diagnosis, Josh said she was "a very, very healthy energetic child."

"She was right into her sport, everybody loved her, lots of friends. Before she got sick she had barely taken a Panadol in her life."

"Just a down-to-earth kid. We never had any problems, everyone loved her."

Dazelle was lucky to pull through her May 2021 bone marrow transplant.

"After the operation she became unresponsive and slipped into a coma," Josh said.

"Why would you deny her a lung transplant when she has fought so hard to get where she is?"

"Dazelle has been on her deathbed and been given the gift of a second chance. She's a special child."

Dazelle's case was brought to the attention of the Federal Assistant Health Minister Ged Kearney in a letter addressed to her by outspoken Liberal MP Russell Broadbent.

Kearney advised "the Australian Government is unable to intervene in clinical decisions."

Translated: "The Australian government only acts in the interests of itself, its corporate benefactors, and its globalist masters. The general public can go f**k itself!"

The Australian Government was more than able to declare a tyrannical health 'emergency' over a non-existent virus whose alleged victims in fact lived past the average life expectancy.

It was able to slam the nation's borders shut and turn the entire country back into an open air prison for over 2 years. It was more than happy to stop people returning or leaving the country in order to see dying loved ones.

The Australian government was quite capable of ordering 150 million doses of COVID vaxxxines - including 54 million doses of the ill-fated Oxford-AstraZeneca clot shot - for a country whose population was yet to crack 26 million. This indicates the Australian grubberment knew well ahead of time the vaxxxine regimen was not really a 2-shot deal, but an ongoing multi-injection ruse comprised of endless ‘boosters.’

It had the power to mandate that anyone testing positive for the non-existent Sars-Cov-2 via the highly flawed PCR tests had to sit in isolation for five days, even if entirely asymptomatic.

Yet we are now supposed to believe the Australian federal government is powerless to lean on a hospital when it imposes a cruel and utterly anti-scientific ban on transplants for sick and vulnerable constituents who refuse to get the poison prick?

    Bullshit.

Funny how both the hopelessly corrupt federal and state governments only apply this strict, by-the-book interpretation of law when it suits them. They routinely award lucrative contracts to favored suppliers, who deliberately overcharge for their services on the behind-the-scenes agreement that much of the excess will be ‘donated’ back to the ruling party or issued in the form of hard-to-trace ‘gifts’ to individual politicians and their families.

In this manner, Australian taxpayer funds are routinely converted to private wealth for politicians and high-ranking bureaucrats.

    Dazelle Passes Away

Dazelle passed away just under a fortnight ago, on June 10, 2024, leaving family and friends heartbroken.

Josh confirmed the terribly sad news in an video uploaded to several social media platforms.

He thanked everyone who sent messages of support to Dazelle during her lengthy cancer fight, sparking an outpouring of tributes.

“Just know that Dazelle knew how much you all loved her,” he said.

“This kid was something special and she deserved better.”

Hundreds of people took to social media to remember Dazelle and express their sympathy.

Among those touched by Dazelle’s plight was Australian pro boxer George Kambosos Jr, who met Dazelle in hospital and shared an emotional post on X.

“RIP, beautiful Dazelle. My deepest condolences to her family. Heaven gained a beautiful angel. Dazelle, you'll never be forgotten, an inspiration to everyone you ever met. God bless your parents, that were by your side when you finally spread your wings. Life can be cruel,” he wrote.

Australian Hospital Lets 17 Year Old Girl Die Because She Wouldn't Take COVID Vaxxxine Involuntary euthanasia is still alive and well Down Under. Anthony Colpo The beautiful young lady you see above was Dazelle Peters, 17, of New South Wales, who refused to take the toxic and deadly COVID gene therapies masquerading as ‘vaccines.’ Dazelle died in hospital on Monday, June 10, 2024 after a four-year battle with leukemia - and after she was refused a lung transplant by Australia’s callous health system. Whatever chance Dazelle had of surviving was scuttled by St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, who stated their “policies and guidelines wouldn’t support transplantation” of anyone who was unvaxxxinated. “Vaccination status against various infections is a critical part of this assessment in order to ensure optimal prospects of survival post-transplant.” St Vincent’s claimed other considerations were at play in Dazelle’s case, but confirmed not being vaxxxinated was one of them. No Jab, No Heart Transplant Melbourne mum Vicki Derderian was refused a heart transplant because she hadn’t received the COVID gene therapies – even though she had an exemption. On Channel 9’s Today Show, former Deputy Chief Heath Officer, Dr Nick “Captain Botox” Coatsworth, claimed he empathized with Vicki’s case, but he “stands by the rules.” Aussie bureaucrats love standing by the rules, no matter how stupid and unjust those rules may be - after all, they need something to help them stand upright given their complete lack of spine, and they desperately need guidelines to mindlessly follow in the face of zero courage and critical thinking skills. I don't envy your decision, but I do stand by the rules of the transplant physicians have made here.” Today Show host Karl Stefanovic interjected. “So Nick, doctors are now deciding not to treat someone because of the chance of getting COVID-19 in a hospital, are we stopping treating people now?” “On the contrary Karl,” Coatsworth retorted. “This is an active treatment decision by the medical community. This hasn't changed during COVID-19.” Today Show host Karl Stefanovic crosses his arms as he questions Dr Nick Coatsworth Karl Stefanovic questioned Nick Coatsworth about the controversial decision. Source: Today Show “I know there's a lot of greys in Covid-19 Karl, a lot of greys … This is black and white. Unfortunately, we have to try and convince people like Vicki and John, we've got to do our best to convince them. If we fail ultimately that means the organ isn't transplanted.” He urged Vicki to reconsider getting the vaccine, falsely claiming the risk of complications from the cardiotoxic gene therapies was “very, very small compared to everything that you've been through so far.” “But from my heart, I hope that you will be able to work with them and perhaps receive that vaccine. If I was in your position I'd receive it because I think it's the safest thing to do. I think it's the safest thing to do. I know you don't agree with me. I respect that decision. But please, please reconsider.” Vicki stood her ground and said if she were to contract COVID, there are treatments available to deal with it. According to Vicki, prior to the COVID vaxxx rollout Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital “were positive and indicated that I would be a suitable candidate for a heart transplant.” That suddenly changed after the poison darts were unleashed. “Despite no Government mandates for transplant patients and the Alfred’s own hospital policy (that says it does not discriminate between the vaccinated and unvaccinated) the Alfred Heart Centre team made it clear to me by September 2021 that I would not receive a heart, unless I get the Covid-19 vaccination.” Follow the Science: Why Nick Coatsworth, St Vincent’s and the Alfred are Spewing Utter Hogwash Nick Coatsworth and the aforementioned hospitals are all spouting utter nonsense. The figures for those who had zero clot shots are highlighted in yellow, near the bottom: Zero hospitalizations, zero ICU admissions, and only 6 fatalities (6.3%) among the unvaxxxinated that NSW Health could reclassify as ‘COVID’ deaths. Which is no doubt why NSW Health no longer provides a breakdown of deaths by vaxxx status. It’s a bit hard to keep claiming the vaxxx saves lives when the data shows otherwise. Surprise, Surprise: The Vaxxxines Cause Organ Rejection Among the 1,200+ side effects and 42,086 adverse events reported to Pfizer in the first two months of its vaxxxine rollout was “Multiple organ dysfunction syndrome.” Probably not a good drug to be giving to someone suffering organ failure. • 6 Viral Misconceptions and Clickbait
    Corey Lynn

Repetition doesn’t make it true. Facts do matter when trying to assess the big picture. There are countless psychological campaigns rolling out simultaneously, most of which are done to induce fear and cognitive dissonance while other goals are achieved. Alongside those are hyped up clickbait posts on social media that are meant to create a false sense of hope, fear, anger, confusion, or generate ad revenue. The problem is, a lot of people tend to react from emotion and share the information without even taking a closer look or doing a little bit of research. Some of the most annoying clickbait has been circulating the internet for years, even decades, and this article is intended to end those misconceptions once and for all.

Download this report in PDF for FREE in the Bookshop >

    1) “Wikileaks Just Released A Massive Dump Of Files!”

    No, they really didn’t.

Wikileaks did not “just” release a massive dump of files, so when you see a hyped up post on social media claiming “OMG! Wikileaks just released a massive data dump on Clintons and…..,” it’s untrue. The link people are sharing is Wikileaks main index file page to all links on their site, which has always been there, and there is a mountain of information to sift through.

For added confirmation, simply pull up the index file page archived from 2014 (ten years ago) and a character count, excluding spaces, will show 92,797 characters. In comparison, the current index page shows 93,252 characters. The difference? Over the course of ten years, 455 characters have been added, which wouldn’t account for more than a small handful of files added since 2014. Furthermore, all of their leaks show the release date on their site.

    2) “Deagel Is A Deep State Military Site Claiming The U.S. Population Will Be At 99 Million In 2025!”

    Totally false.

Deagel is not the same as Deagle, as in Edwin Deagle. The posts, articles, and videos that have been circulating for over a decade are drawing people’s focus to a man that has absolutely nothing to do with Deagel.com. Nor is the site run by deep state. A quick glance through the website itself is a good indicator of that.

Though it is currently set to private, a search through the archives shows that the website was registered on August 31, 2003 from an address in Spain by “Gas Deagel.”

The website posts updates on various military related projects and equipment with links to the source sites they found the info on. They also post a chart of each country’s population. At one time the site was posting projected populations into the future, such as their 2007 forecast about 2017, or their 2019 forecast about 2025. This is why the viral posts began in the first place, because the site suggested the U.S. population would drop significantly as the years ticked by, and even had 2025 at a population of 99 million.

They had a short disclaimer at the top of the page stating, “There are 179 countries listed with a forecast for 2025. Click on the icons to sort the list. This website is non-profit, built on spare time and we provide our information and services AS IS without further explanations and/or guarantees. We are not linked to any government. Take into account that the forecast is nothing more than a game of numbers whether flawed or correct based upon some speculative assumptions.” They also had a more lengthy disclaimer at the bottom in pink which comes with type errors and no affiliation to military. It’s a whole lot of nonsense, which is probably why they removed it from their site, not to mention the fact that they’ve been way off with their “forecasts.”

This site is nothing but an aggregator of military news from other sites, that published an absurd “population forecast” based on a whole lot of nothing. After reviewing this and digging into it, I came across James Corbett’s report on it and gave it a quick listen. He drew the same conclusions.

There are numerous articles, social media threads, videos, and even claims in books that have been telling folks for years that Edwin Deagle is behind this website, all because of the spelling of his name – which is incorrect from the domain name and registrar. There are no other data points linking him to this website.

    3) “China Is Buying Up All The Farmland In The U.S.!”

    That’s quite an exaggeration.

Though China has indeed purchased U.S. farmland, and even schemed with lawmakers to purchase acreage in Missouri (more on this below), Canada owns over 14 million acres, whereas China owns less than a half million acres of U.S. farmland.

There are 880 million acres of farmland in the U.S. Investment firms and individuals of Canada own more U.S. farmland than any other foreign country. In total, 43.4 million acres of U.S. forest and farmland, or 3.4% of ag land, is foreign owned as of Dec. 31, 2022.

Of the 43.4 million acres that are foreign owned, here are some of the top ones:

    Canada = 32%
    Netherlands = 12%
    Italy = 6%
    UK = 6%
    Germany = 5%
    China owns less than 1%

According to the USDA, Brazos Highland and Murphy Brown LLC, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, are the two biggest Chinese-owned companies that own land in the U.S. Brazos Highland accounts for 102,345 acres, and Smithfield owns 97,975 as of December, 2022.

The top five states with the biggest Chinese holdings are Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, Utah and Virginia.

For perspective, from 2021 to 2022, there was an increase in 2.58 million U.S. ag acres acquired by foreign countries. These charts provide a good visual for all U.S.-owned ag land as of 2021.

None of this dismisses concerns over Chinese-owned companies or citizens acquiring U.S. farmland. Quite the contrary. In fact, in a 2020 report by Corey Lynn, there is a section specifically on Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the world. What’s most concerning is the fact that it was acquired by the Chinese company WH Group back in 2013, which included Premium Standard Farms in Princeton, Missouri, yet at that time Missouri law banned all foreign ownership of land. Curiously, just one week prior to this acquisition Missouri legislature amended the law to allow for 1% of Missouri farmland to be owned by foreign investors (roughly 289,000 acres), clearing the way for WH Group to acquire 40,000 acres. Before WH Group took on its new name, it was called CDH, founded by Wu Shangzhi, former senior investment officer at the World Bank Group’s IFC, and boy is it a twisted tale of connections that people must read. WH Group is also the majority shareholder in Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co. which is China’s top meat producer.

Hence, is this case, it would seem the food supply – specifically pork – may just be more of a concern than U.S. land holdings itself.

On another note, a lot of people believe Bill Gates owns more U.S. farmland than any other U.S. citizen, but his 260,000 acres of U.S. farmland doesn’t even put him close to the top 20. According to the Land Report’s top 100 U.S. landowners, Bill Gates falls in 42nd place, while Jeff Bezos sits in 25th place. This doesn’t negate the fact that no one is happy about Bill Gates owning so much farmland in the U.S. because he’s always up to something nefarious.

    4) “China Owns TikTok! We Need To Ban It Now!”

China does in fact own a stake in TikTok, but it’s American private equity and venture capital firms that hold the cards.

Catherine Austin Fitts explained in a Solari Report titled Netanyahus Mass Atrocity Machinery: What Will You Do?, as follows:

“The real stories of mass atrocity in Gaza keep sneaking out on TikTok. American private equity and venture capital firms, including KKR, own approximately 60% of ByteDance, the company that owns the TikTok app. The Congress—filled with legislators alleged to be dual-passport citizens—is now trying to make sure that the criminal syndicate can assert control over ByteDance, which will allow them to squeeze out the Chinese founders and investors by picking up their much smaller 20% equity position for cheap.

The criminal syndicates love to use the Chinese foreign bogeyman as a stalking horse. They love to use politicians to lower the price at which they can buy—and raise the price at which they can sell. Those capital gains fund political contributions and kickbacks.”

    5) “China Owns The U.S.! They Hold All Of Our Debt!”

Sure, China holds a lot of U.S. debt – $770.7 billion in Treasury holdings as of April 2024, but why doesn’t anyone ever mention the fact that Japan holds far more U.S. debt than China, to the tune of $1.15 trillion in Treasury securities? Or, why doesn’t anyone mention the fact that the United Kingdom is trailing just behind China at $710.2 billion? Luxembourg and Canada hold the 4th and 5th largest U.S. debt. Don’t people want all the facts, or do they just like to scream “China, China, China!”?

Who is actually the largest owner of U.S. debt? That would be the U.S. government. They hold Treasury securities in government accounts and pension funds.

As of June 28, 2024, the U.S. national debt was at $34.83 trillion. That is an increase of nearly $12 trillion since 2019, just before the Covid plandemic hit. In fact, between 2019 and 2020, it jumped $4.7 trillion.

But who’s counting? Certainly not the Pentagon who has failed six consecutive internal audits. Over $21 trillion has gone missing from U.S. federal accounts at HUD and the Department of Defense.

Be sure to read “Who Are THEY?” by Corey Lynn, to understand the depths and complexities of just how deep this corruption is and who is behind it all.

    6) “Tom Hanks, Bill Gates, And Hillary Clinton Were Executed!” (And if not, they must be in GITMO!) And, “JFK Jr. And Jeffrey Epstein Are Still Alive!”

This is an all time favorite clickbait because it’s just amazing how many people concur and share it with the world as though it is 100% fact, and will spend hours debating people on it. The information was assuredly passed through a high-up military insider that leaked it to a friend and they passed it on to another, and another, and another. It doesn’t matter if any of them are seen in person or on television because those would be immediately dismissed as either clones or deep fakes.

The reality is, a lot of people will believe what they want to believe if it induces a specific emotion they wish to feel, or if it gives them a sense of hope or “winning” as many like to put it. Yet, they have no solid proof and state it as fact. They expend time and energy on pondering it, fantasizing about it, debating people over it, and sharing it with others. What does this accomplish? What does it achieve? If they are in fact dead – has anything changed for the better because of those outcomes? No. So why the big debate and distraction?

The same goes for JFK Jr. and Jeffrey Epstein being alive. Despite all of the evidence pointing to their deaths, some people are adamant that they are alive, without a shred of proof. It’s one thing to discuss such things, it’s another to declare it as fact. Sure, there are plenty of bot farms that fuel these tales, but there are plenty of regular folks who have jumped on the bandwagon to give it more life – or death.

    Tips And Tactics

How do you want to spend your time? Do you want to feed the enemy instead of feeding your soul? Human beings have 24 hours a day, 8,760 hours a year to enjoy life, minus 2,920 hours required for sleep alone. According to a Datareportal Global Overview Report in January, worldwide internet users between the ages of 16 to 64 spend an average of nearly 7 hours a day online, across all devices. The U.S. is even worse, exceeding 7 hours per day. The report states that “Scientists have measured the amount of data that enter the brain and found that an average person living today processes as much as 74 GB in information a day (that is as much as watching 16 movies), through TV, computers, cell phones, tablets, billboards, and many other gadgets. Every year it is about 5% more than the previous year.”

In Corey Lynn’s 2021 report titled Covid-19 Pt. 5: Psychologists, Scientists and The CIA Tell Us Fear is The Real Killer, the report goes in depth on the following topics:

    • Capitalizing on Fear
    • Fear’s Effect on The Brain and Health
    • CIA Documents on Brainwashing and “Learned Helplessness”
    • Expert in Deception, Psychological Operations & National Security Speaks to Cadets at West Point

This is an incredibly important read to understand the psychological games, how the brain works, and more importantly – how brainwashing works. Once people have reached a point of exhaustion, which most have at this point, the mind becomes far more suggestive and it’s easy to fall into clickbait traps.

A few quotes from a CIA document covered in this report:

“When reduced to extreme dependency and confusion, the individual is ready to react favorably to any person or idea which promises to end his painfully confused state. At this point, the re-education begins.”

“The process of brainwashing is essentially one in which two paths are being followed. One is the demoralizing process, the result of which is to reduce the victim’s critical faculties to the point where he no longer discriminates clearly between true and false, logical and illogical. The other is the reorganizing process, in which he is required to construct his confessions, elaborate it, defend it, and believe it.”

“Communist control of the individual and the masses is little different from controls exercised by virtually all absolute forms of government, past and present.”

Perhaps the best way to stay on top of things is to narrow time spent online, narrow the focus to the important things, and then narrow those things down by researching the facts before drawing conclusions based on emotional reactions. All industries are taking a hit or a twist from food supply to financial, technology, surveillance, housing, farming, and many others. Maybe selecting two or three of those that seem to have the most impact in one’s life, is a simpler approach to wading through the gigabytes of information one’s brain is downloading on a daily basis.

6 Viral Misconceptions and Clickbait Corey Lynn Repetition doesn’t make it true. Download this report in PDF for FREE in the Bookshop > 1) “Wikileaks Just Released A Massive Dump Of Files!” No, they really didn’t. Population Will Be At 99 Million In 2025!” Totally false. Though it is currently set to private, a search through the archives shows that the website was registered on August 31, 2003 from an address in Spain by “Gas Deagel.” The website posts updates on various military related projects and equipment with links to the source sites they found the info on. It’s a whole lot of nonsense, which is probably why they removed it from their site, not to mention the fact that they’ve been way off with their “forecasts.” This site is nothing but an aggregator of military news from other sites, that published an absurd “population forecast” based on a whole lot of nothing. 3) “China Is Buying Up All The Farmland In The U.S.!” That’s quite an exaggeration. 31, 2022. Of the 43.4 million acres that are foreign owned, here are some of the top ones: Canada = 32% Netherlands = 12% Italy = 6% UK = 6% Germany = 5% China owns less than 1% According to the USDA, Brazos Highland and Murphy Brown LLC, a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, are the two biggest Chinese-owned companies that own land in the U.S. We Need To Ban It Now!” China does in fact own a stake in TikTok, but it’s American private equity and venture capital firms that hold the cards. Catherine Austin Fitts explained in a Solari Report titled Netanyahus Mass Atrocity Machinery: What Will You Do?, as follows: “The real stories of mass atrocity in Gaza keep sneaking out on TikTok. Those capital gains fund political contributions and kickbacks.” 5) “China Owns The U.S.! They Hold All Of Our Debt!” Sure, China holds a lot of U.S. debt – $770.7 billion in Treasury holdings as of April 2024, but why doesn’t anyone ever mention the fact that Japan holds far more U.S. debt than China, to the tune of $1.15 trillion in Treasury securities? Or, why doesn’t anyone mention the fact that the United Kingdom is trailing just behind China at $710.2 billion? Luxembourg and Canada hold the 4th and 5th largest U.S. debt. Don’t people want all the facts, or do they just like to scream “China, China, China!”? Who is actually the largest owner of U.S. debt? That would be the U.S. government. They hold Treasury securities in government accounts and pension funds. As of June 28, 2024, the U.S. national debt was at $34.83 trillion. • SFA approves 16 insect species for food; companies gear up to offer new dishes and products

SINGAPORE – Fancy some lychee balls with crispy chilli crickets or sushi with superworms?

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on July 8 that it has approved 16 species of insects for consumption.

The insects include various species of crickets, grasshoppers, locusts, mealworms and silkworms.

For industry players in Singapore, who have been gearing up for this moment by experimenting with and developing new insect-based recipes and products, the approval is a long-awaited one.

SFA began public consultations on the possibility of allowing 16 species of insects for consumption in 2022, The Straits Times reported then.

Insects have been touted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation as a more sustainable alternative to meat, as they have high protein content and produce lower greenhouse gas emissions when farmed.

In April 2023, SFA said it would give the green light for these species to be consumed in the second half of 2023. This deadline was later pushed to the first half of 2024.

Already, at least two industry players – Singapore-based Future Protein Solutions and Asia Insect Farm Solutions – have decided to call it quits, as the long wait had thrown their business viability into question.

But other firms are persisting with their insect offerings.

Altimate Nutrition and House of Seafood, for instance, hope to roll their products out to the mass market.

Other firms are taking it slow, hoping to introduce insects into consumer diets gradually, such as by incorporating insect powder as an ingredient in protein bars.

    A bevy of options

Mr Francis Ng, House of Seafood restaurant’s chief executive, is cooking up a menu of 30 insect-infused dishes to give customers more choice.

Of the 16 approved species, the restaurant will add superworms, crickets and silkworm pupae to some of its seafood dishes, such as salted egg crab.

Prior to the approval, the restaurant had been getting five to six calls daily inquiring about its insect-based dishes, Mr Ng said.

“Many of our customers, especially young people who are under 30 years old, are very daring. They want to be able to see the whole insect in the dish,” he added.

He anticipates that sales from insect-based dishes will increase his revenue by around 30 per cent.

Mr Javier Yip, founder of logistics company Declarators, has set up another business and secured a licence to import insects from farms in China, Thailand and Vietnam for sale in Singapore.

He will sell a range of bug snacks under the brand name InsectYumz. Several types of insect snacks will be available for a start, including original and tom yum-flavoured crickets and mealworms. There will also be cricket powder, which is a protein powder.

These items will soon be listed on his website and other e-commerce sites, as well as supermarkets and restaurants, he added.

Asked why he decided to venture into importing insects, Mr Yip said: “I enjoy eating them; in fact, the first time I tried an insect was at a shop in Tampines in the 1990s.”

As he runs a logistics company, Mr Yip feels he has the know-how and ability to import these insects into Singapore. He hopes to provide such snacks to those who might enjoy them, particularly young people.

Altimate Nutrition, which creates insect food products for humans, has sought to garner interest among younger people by educating consumers over the years.

Its main product offerings are cricket-infused protein bars, which come in a range of flavours, from strawberry to banana chocolate.

While waiting for SFA’s regulatory approval, the company conducted workshops and educational sessions at almost a hundred schools, from pre-schools to institutes of higher learning, said its co-founder, Mr Hiew Yuen Sheng.

“During our workshops, we targeted mostly young people who may be more adventurous when it comes to trying insects, and we educated them on the benefits of insects as a more sustainable protein source,” he said.

Surveys conducted after the programme found that around 80 per cent of students polled would be willing to try the insects after they are approved, he added.

Altimate Nutrition is hoping to launch its cricket protein bars at eco-friendly store Green Collective as soon as possible, to be the “first movers”, Mr Hiew said.

It is collaborating with various food and beverage players – for instance, it supplies House of Seafood with some of its bugs, and is working with Origin Bar to launch a cricket-based cocktail.

To carry out more research and development, Altimate Nutrition has formed a joint venture named ProteinInnovation with its supplier, Thai insect farm Global Bugs.

ProteinInnovation will look into growing crickets in the most productive, cost-effective way, and the collaboration will help Global Bugs to better tap the Singapore market, said Global Bugs co-founder and chief executive Kanitsanan Thanthitiwat.

“While there are many cricket farms in the Thai market, the challenge lies in determining who can produce the largest volume of crickets and in the most cost-effective way,” she said.

ProteinInnovation will be raising funds to build another high-tech cricket farm in Thailand, which is capable of growing around 200 tonnes of crickets a year – 20 times more than its current capacity.

The crickets will be bred, using automation, in little “boxes”, to alleviate manpower costs, and being modular, these can easily be scaled up, she added.

Other companies are waiting to test consumer reception before deciding on their launch plans.

Mr Aaron Chen, the chief executive of Werms, which currently sells insects such as crickets and mealworms as pet food, is waiting to see if there is any consumer demand for his insects, before deciding to offer them for human consumption.

While these insects are grown in a similar way – whether for humans or for pets – greater biosecurity measures will be needed if they are to be sold for human consumption. A new farm will also have to be set up to prevent cross-contamination, for example, and a new licence will be needed.

“While we can scale up rather quickly, there might be quite a bit of costs involved for us to venture into the edible insect market, so we’ll wait and see what happens,” he told ST.

Japanese start-up Morus is looking to launch a range of silkworm-based products here, targeting high-end restaurants and consumers, as they are high-income and health conscious, said Mr Ryo Sato, its chief executive.

Its products include a pure silkworm powder – which can be used as a food ingredient – along with matcha powder, protein powder and protein bars.

Given that Singaporean consumers do not have a history of consuming insects, Morus will also conduct more pop-up events and consumer workshops, Mr Sato said.

Once it is able to scale up and reduce costs of production, Morus will start focusing on the mass market, he added.

Currently, each 500g bottle of protein powder will cost $248, and can last for a month if consumed daily.

But its matcha powder will be priced more affordably, Mr Sato said, without specifying a price.

The company is also hoping to work with high-end restaurants, both in Singapore and other parts of South-east Asia and Europe, to integrate Morus’ silkworm-based products into their dishes, before targeting the mass market.

    Food safety and labelling requirements

SFA said on July 8 that those intending to import or farm insects for human consumption or livestock feed must meet its guidelines, which include providing documentary proof that the imported insects are farmed in regulated establishments with food safety controls and are not harvested from the wild.

Insects not on SFA’s list of 16 will have to be evaluated to ensure that the species are safe for consumption, the agency said.

Companies selling pre-packed food containing insects will also have to label their packaging as such, so that consumers can make informed decisions on whether to purchase the product.

Insect products will also be subject to food safety testing. Those that do not meet SFA’s standards will not be allowed for sale.

Food safety and labelling requirements SFA said on July 8 that those intending to import or farm insects for human consumption or livestock feed must meet its guidelines, which include providing documentary proof that the imported insects are farmed in regulated establishments with food safety controls and are not harvested from the wild. • “Safe zone” massacre, hospital gutted, shelter flattened – just another day in Gaza – Day 279
[email protected] July 13, 2024 Anwar El Ghazi, bernie sanders, ceasefire deal, international criminal court, israeli economy, mawasi massacre, safe zone, unrwa, west bank deaths
Crowds of Palestinians flee the area after an Israeli attack on the Mawasi area of Khan Younis. (screengrab)
Massive casualties in Mawasi “safe zone”; “planned massacre” in Gaza City; UNRWA finds international support while under Israeli attack; West Bank deaths; 46,000 Israeli businesses closed since October 7th; obstinacy from Netanyahu; US seeks new way to help Israel dodge ICC arrest warrants; Sanders says, amid election frenzy, “we must not forget Gaza”; more.

    By IAK staff, from reports.

Breaking News: over 70 massacred in “safe zone” Saturday morning

Al Jazeera reports: At least 71 people have been killed and 289 wounded in an Israeli air attack on the al-Mawasi refugee camp, west of Khan Younis, the Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip says.

Gaza’s Civil Defense has told Al Jazeera the targeted area was designated by the Israeli forces as a so-called “safe” zone. Witnesses say rescue workers and health teams on the scene targeted by Israeli forces.

Images from the scene showed Palestinians trying to rescue people from under the rubble, with children and paramedics among the wounded.

Reporting from Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum said this was “a new massacre committed by the Israeli military”, adding that the area was hit by “five bombs and five missiles”.

“The scenes that are coming from the area that was targeted are incredibly bloody and devastating,” he said.

The Israeli forces have confirmed that Saturday’s attack on displaced people in Mawasi targeted Hamas military chief, Mohammed Deif.

Hamas has dismissed Israel’s claim that Saturday’s Mawasi strike was targeting the group’s leaders as “false.” “It’s not the first time Israel claims to target Palestinian leaders, only to be proven false later,” the group said in a statement.

Israel leaves Gaza hospital in ruins

One month after Palestinians in Gaza City renovated and reopened the Patient’s Friends Hospital, Israeli occupation forces attacked it again, destroying it and leaving it unable to serve civilians in the north of the enclave. There are currently no fully functioning hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

Israel flattens UNRWA HQ sheltering displaced Gazans

Israeli occupation forces have flattened the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City leaving thousands of already displaced Palestinians with no shelter. Civil defense teams have said scores of bodies have been recovered from under the rubble, with many more thought to be trapped beneath it.

Israeli army killed dozens in Gaza City in ‘planned massacre’: Official

Al Jazeera reports: Director-General of the Government Media Office Ismail al-Thawabta has accused Israeli authorities of carrying out a “planned massacre” that killed dozens in Gaza City.

Al-Thawabta told Al Jazeera Arabic that the Israeli army directed thousands of Palestinians in eastern Gaza City to move to neighborhoods in the west and south of the city, then opened fire at them once they got there.

He said 70 bodies have been retrieved by rescue crews in the area of Tal al-Hawa, and at least 50 people remain missing.

“Some displaced people were pointing to the Israeli army, carrying white flags and saying, ‘We are not fighters; we are displaced.’ But the Israeli occupation army executed these displaced people with cold blood,” al-Thawabta said.

ICJ to issue advisory opinion on Israeli occupation on July 19

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will issue an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory on July 19, the court said in a news release.

The UN’s highest court held historic hearings into Israel’s occupation in February of this year.

The court heard from 52 countries and three organizations on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

‘Blatant Disregard’ – UNRWA Attacked for Safeguarding Palestinian Refugees’ Rights

Palestine Chronicle reports: UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini has cautioned that turning a blind eye to the attacks on the UN agency in the occupied Palestinian territories could set a dangerous precedent, adding that it is being targeted for its role in safeguarding the rights of Palestinian refugees.

“In more than 30 years of humanitarian work, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for the protected status of humanitarian workers, facilities and operations under international law,” Lazzarini, the agency’s Commissioner-General said in his speech at the opening of the UNRWA Pledging Conference in New York on Friday.

He said, “Turning a blind eye to these attacks sets a dangerous precedent, undermining respect for the rules-based international order in other conflicts.”

UNRWA’s Lazzarini says funding guaranteed until September

Al Jazeera reports: Speaking to the press after a pledging conference, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini says funding for the UN Palestinian refugee agency had been guaranteed through September.

He added that the pledged amount was not yet known but would be disclosed in the coming days.

Out of the 16 countries that suspended funding after Israeli allegations against UNRWA, 14 have now resumed funding. The US and the UK did not resume funding, but Lazzarini said he was confident Britain – which elected a new government last week – would soon resume its financial support.

118 countries signed a shared commitment to support and bolster financial and political support for UNRWA.

Israeli forces gun down Palestinian in Ramallah-governorate town

WAFA reports: Israeli occupation forces Friday evening reportedly gunned down a Palestinian in the Abwein town, northwest of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

Mayor of Abwein, Mahmoud Hamad, said that the occupation forces barged their way into the town, triggering confrontations between heavily armed Israeli soldiers and Palestinians.

During the confrontations, Hamad added, the heavily armed Israeli soldiers opened live fire directly on 26-year-old Ali Muwafaq Muzahem, critically injuring him. A short time later, he was pronounced dead.

More detail on Israeli forces’ killing of 14-year-old Palestinian boy south of Jenin

Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) reports: On Thursday, Israeli forces shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian child in the northern occupied West Bank.

Around 5 p.m. 14-year-old Ali Hasan Ali Rabaya was shot under the armpit by an Israeli soldier inside a heavily armored military vehicle from a distance of 20 to 40 meters (65 to 131 feet) near the western entrance of the Palestinian village of Maithaloun, south of Jenin in the northern occupied West bank, according to documentation collected by Defense for Children International – Palestine.

After Israeli forces shot him, Ali ran about three meters (10 feet) before collapsing to the ground. Israeli forces continued firing in Ali’s direction, striking at least five other Palestinian children, including a 13-year-old boy who was seriously injured in the chest and legs.

Continued Israeli military fire prevented Palestinian residents from reaching Ali for about five minutes. When the Israeli military vehicles withdrew, a private car brought Ali to the Turkish Governmental Hospital in Tubas, where he was pronounced dead around 5:35 p.m.

“Without a second thought, Israeli forces killed 14-year-old Ali and injured at least five other Palestinian children when they opened fire in Maithaloun,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, accountability program director at DCIP. “Decades of systemic impunity have emboldened Israeli forces to shoot to kill without consequence, demonstrating contempt for Palestinian children’s lives. The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court must issue arrest warrants for Israeli authorities now and force accountability.”

After raiding another Palestinian town, Israeli forces passed the Palestinian village of Maithaloun, where Palestinian residents confronted passing Israeli military vehicles.

Ali was allegedly throwing stones toward the heavily armored Israeli military vehicles at the time he was shot.

Israel quietly disappears West Bank land

Electronic Intifada reports: As Israel’s genocide in Gaza enters its tenth month, its settler-colonial project advances relentlessly across historic Palestine.

The UN Human Rights Office is sounding alarm bells over Israel’s accelered land theft in the occupied West Bank, exacerbated by the forcible displacement of Palestinians through settler violence, home demolitions and access restrictions.

“The situation in the occupied West Bank is a matter of grave concern as Israel allows and facilitates an environment characterized by fear forcing communities from their homes and lands,” the UN office said.

Settlers, the statement continued, “acting with the protection and support of Israeli security forces, are escalating violent attacks on herding communities in the South Hebron Hills, Jordan Valley and East Jerusalem that have been encircled by settlements and outposts.”

Israel’s so-called security cabinet approved the legalization of five settler “outposts.”

While all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law and building them is a war crime, what Israel refers to as “outposts” are often built without even Israel’s permission and are considered illegal under Israeli law.

‘Israel in collapse’: 46,000 businesses forced to close since 7 Oct

The Cradle reports: Forty-six thousand Israeli businesses have been forced to shut as a result of the ongoing war and its devastating effect on the economy, Hebrew newspaper Maariv reported on 10 July, referring to Israel as a “country in collapse.”

“This is a very high number that encompasses many sectors. About 77 percent of the businesses that have been closed since the beginning of the war, which make up about 35,000 businesses, are small businesses with up to five employees, and are the most vulnerable in the economy,” Yoel Amir, CEO of Israeli information services and credit risk management firm, CofaceBdi, told Maariv.

The report adds that “the most vulnerable industries are the construction industry, and as a result also the entire ecosystem that operates around it: ceramics, air conditioning, aluminum, building materials, and more – All of these were significantly damaged,” according to CofaceBdi’s risk ratings.

The trade sector has also been severely affected. This includes the service sector and industries including fashion, furniture, housewares, entertainment, transport, and tourism.

Israel is in a situation where “there is almost no foreign tourism,” the report said, adding that “damage to businesses is all over the country, and almost no sector has been spared.”

This includes the agriculture sector, which is based mainly in the south and the north – both considered active combat zones due to the threat posed by the Palestinian resistance and Lebanon’s Hezbollah – whose support front against Israel has significantly contributed to the downfall of the economy.

The CofaceBdi CEO estimates that 60,000 Israeli businesses are expected to be shut down by the end of 2024.

Israeli PM Netanyahu has ‘rejected’ probes into security lapses leading up to October 7

Al Jazeera reports: Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has long rejected any sort of investigation into the events on October 7 and the days leading up to it because he has said that all of the focus and resources should be allocated to the current war on Gaza.

In fact, members of his far-right government – including ultra-nationalists like Itamar Ben-Gvir – have said there shouldn’t be an investigation until after the war.

This is the first time the Israeli army has revealed any sort of findings from any investigation as to what happened on October 7.

They say there are more investigations that they are currently working on, and are going to make those findings public once those investigations are completed.

Senior Israeli official says Netanyahu holding up hostage-truce deal with new demands

Times of Israel reports: A senior Israeli official involved in the negotiations for a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas says that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding up an agreement with new demands.

Speaking to Hebrew media, the official says that the prime minister is now insisting on the establishment of an enforcement mechanism that would prevent armed Hamas operatives from returning to northern Gaza.

The negotiating team told Netanyahu that they were opposed to the new condition and it was not feasible. Netanyahu told the team he insists on it.

Channel 12 quotes officials as saying that they believe Netanyahu is trying to delay a deal because he is likely to lose his coalition over the deal, with far-right parties vowing to quit if the agreement goes through.

“This is the moment of truth for the hostages,” the official tells Channel 12. We can reach an agreement within two weeks and bring the hostages home.”

NOTE: While Hamas holds around 100 prisoners in Gaza, Israel is currently holding over 9,700 Palestinian prisoners in inhumane conditions where many are systematically tortured – 250 of them are children, 79 are women, and over 3,300 are administrative detainees – being held without charge or trial. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances, but Israel uses it widely. Read more here.

US considers fresh legal bid questioning ICC jurisdiction over Israel

Middle East Eye reports: The US is considering a legal bid to question the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) authority in seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister over alleged war crimes in Gaza, Middle East Eye can reveal.

A US official briefed on the matter told MEE that the Biden administration is considering submitting an amicus curiae to the ICC, voicing its staunch opposition to the decision of the court’s chief prosecutor to seek arrest warrants for the Israeli officials, despite the US not being a signatory to the treaty that created the court.

The deliberations, not previously reported, come amid a lobbying campaign at the highest levels of the Biden administration to prevent the UK from dropping its legal appeal against the ICC.

The Biden administration has made no secret of its objection to the court’s decision to seek arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, alongside senior Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip.

Poll finds 72% of Israelis think Netanyahu should quit over Oct. 7 failures

Times of Israel reports: Seventy-two percent of Israelis think Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to resign over the failures of October 7, according to a Channel 12 poll published Friday.

Of those, 44% believe Netanyahu needs to quit immediately, while another 28% believe he should resign when the war ends.

The poll also found that the public views Netanyahu as the Israeli most responsible for the October 7 catastrophe.

Football player wins case against club for wrongful termination over Palestine support

Al Jazeera reports: A German court has ruled that football club Mainz wrongfully terminated the contract of Anwar El Ghazi – whose parents are of Moroccan descent – after the Dutch forward refused to stay silent about his support for Palestinians.

German club Mainz suspended El Ghazi in October, before terminating his contract in November, after he refused to stop posting about Israel’s war on Gaza on social media.

The forward, who wrote the statement “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in one such post, has previously said he has “no regrets or remorse” about his stand.

“We Must Not Forget Gaza,” says Sanders

Statement from Bernie Sanders: While much of the media is focused on the drama of the U.S. presidential election, we must not lose sight of what is happening in Gaza, where an unprecedented humanitarian crisis continues to get even worse.

Nine months into this war, more than 38,000 people have been killed and 88,000 injured…The full toll is likely higher, with thousands more buried beneath the rubble.

Nine in ten Gazans – 1.9 million people – have been driven from their homes…60 percent of residential buildings [have been] damaged or destroyed.

Israel continues to restrict the entry of UN humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza…

    The results are catastrophic.

Unbelievably, one in four Gazans face starvation, some 495,000 people…Many people, including children, are sifting through the rubble for food, and boiling leaves for sustenance.

In searing heat, clean water is in short supply. Some 67 percent of water and sanitation infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed…

These conditions have spread dangerous diseases like hepatitis and diarrhea, yet most hospitals and health clinics have been destroyed by the bombardment, and some 500 health care workers killed.

Yet, in the midst of this horror and violations of international law, the United States continues to send billions of dollars and thousands of bombs and other weapons to support this war. We, as Americans, are complicit.

We must end our support for Netanyahu’s war. Not another nickel to make this horrific situation even worse. I intend to do everything I can to block further arms transfers to Israel, including through joint resolutions of disapproval of any arms sales. The United States must not help a right-wing extremist and war criminal continue this atrocity.

    STATISTICS OCTOBER 7 – JULY 12:

Palestinian death toll from October 7 – July 12: at least 38,917* (38,345 in Gaza* – 11,445 women (30%), 16,034 children as of June 17.

Euro-Med Monitor reports 45,223 Palestinian deaths.

Palestinian injuries from October 7 – July 12: at least 93,715 (including at least 88,295 in Gaza and 5,420 in the West Bank, including 830 children).

[It remains unknown how many Americans are among the casualties in Gaza.]
Reported Israeli death toll from October 7 – July 12: ~1,478 (~1,139 on October 7, 2023, of which ~32 were Americans, and ~36 were children); 324 military forces since the ground invasion began in Gaza; 16 in the West Bank) and~8,730 injured.

ICJ to issue advisory opinion on Israeli occupation on July 19 The International Court of Justice (ICJ) will issue an advisory opinion on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory on July 19, the court said in a news release. The UN’s highest court held historic hearings into Israel’s occupation in February of this year. The court heard from 52 countries and three organizations on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem. ‘Blatant Disregard’ – UNRWA Attacked for Safeguarding Palestinian Refugees’ Rights Palestine Chronicle reports: UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini has cautioned that turning a blind eye to the attacks on the UN agency in the occupied Palestinian territories could set a dangerous precedent, adding that it is being targeted for its role in safeguarding the rights of Palestinian refugees. He said, “Turning a blind eye to these attacks sets a dangerous precedent, undermining respect for the rules-based international order in other conflicts.” UNRWA’s Lazzarini says funding guaranteed until September Al Jazeera reports: Speaking to the press after a pledging conference, UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini says funding for the UN Palestinian refugee agency had been guaranteed through September. Israeli forces gun down Palestinian in Ramallah-governorate town WAFA reports: Israeli occupation forces Friday evening reportedly gunned down a Palestinian in the Abwein town, northwest of the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah. More detail on Israeli forces’ killing of 14-year-old Palestinian boy south of Jenin Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP) reports: On Thursday, Israeli forces shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian child in the northern occupied West Bank. The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court must issue arrest warrants for Israeli authorities now and force accountability.” After raiding another Palestinian town, Israeli forces passed the Palestinian village of Maithaloun, where Palestinian residents confronted passing Israeli military vehicles. Ali was allegedly throwing stones toward the heavily armored Israeli military vehicles at the time he was shot. Israel quietly disappears West Bank land Electronic Intifada reports: As Israel’s genocide in Gaza enters its tenth month, its settler-colonial project advances relentlessly across historic Palestine. Settlers, the statement continued, “acting with the protection and support of Israeli security forces, are escalating violent attacks on herding communities in the South Hebron Hills, Jordan Valley and East Jerusalem that have been encircled by settlements and outposts.” Israel’s so-called security cabinet approved the legalization of five settler “outposts.” While all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law and building them is a war crime, what Israel refers to as “outposts” are often built without even Israel’s permission and are considered illegal under Israeli law. (screengrab) ‘Israel in collapse’: 46,000 businesses forced to close since 7 Oct The Cradle reports: Forty-six thousand Israeli businesses have been forced to shut as a result of the ongoing war and its devastating effect on the economy, Hebrew newspaper Maariv reported on 10 July, referring to Israel as a “country in collapse.” “This is a very high number that encompasses many sectors. Israel is in a situation where “there is almost no foreign tourism,” the report said, adding that “damage to businesses is all over the country, and almost no sector has been spared.” This includes the agriculture sector, which is based mainly in the south and the north – both considered active combat zones due to the threat posed by the Palestinian resistance and Lebanon’s Hezbollah – whose support front against Israel has significantly contributed to the downfall of the economy. The CofaceBdi CEO estimates that 60,000 Israeli businesses are expected to be shut down by the end of 2024. Israeli PM Netanyahu has ‘rejected’ probes into security lapses leading up to October 7 Al Jazeera reports: Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has long rejected any sort of investigation into the events on October 7 and the days leading up to it because he has said that all of the focus and resources should be allocated to the current war on Gaza. Senior Israeli official says Netanyahu holding up hostage-truce deal with new demands Times of Israel reports: A senior Israeli official involved in the negotiations for a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas says that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding up an agreement with new demands. We can reach an agreement within two weeks and bring the hostages home.” NOTE: While Hamas holds around 100 prisoners in Gaza, Israel is currently holding over 9,700 Palestinian prisoners in inhumane conditions where many are systematically tortured – 250 of them are children, 79 are women, and over 3,300 are administrative detainees – being held without charge or trial. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances, but Israel uses it widely. Read more here. US considers fresh legal bid questioning ICC jurisdiction over Israel Middle East Eye reports: The US is considering a legal bid to question the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) authority in seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister over alleged war crimes in Gaza, Middle East Eye can reveal. (photo) Poll finds 72% of Israelis think Netanyahu should quit over Oct. 7 failures Times of Israel reports: Seventy-two percent of Israelis think Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to resign over the failures of October 7, according to a Channel 12 poll published Friday. Of those, 44% believe Netanyahu needs to quit immediately, while another 28% believe he should resign when the war ends. The poll also found that the public views Netanyahu as the Israeli most responsible for the October 7 catastrophe. Football player wins case against club for wrongful termination over Palestine support Al Jazeera reports: A German court has ruled that football club Mainz wrongfully terminated the contract of Anwar El Ghazi – whose parents are of Moroccan descent – after the Dutch forward refused to stay silent about his support for Palestinians. CAIR, ACC Announce New Fund to Help Students Targeted for Palestine Advocacy on College Campuses Press release: The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, and A Continuous Charity (ACC) today announced that they are establishing a new fund to help students targeted for their pro-Palestine advocacy on college campuses. CAIR and ACC’s new Educational Pursuit Fund (EPF) is dedicated to assisting students who have faced adverse consequences for voicing their support for Palestine. How Your Contributions Help: 70% of all donations go toward providing interest-free educational loans. These funds will enable students to continue their education without financial strain. 30% of contributions are allocated to grants for students who have lost scholarships, housing, or other support because of their advocacy. Each grant is valued at $1,000, offering vital unrestricted funds that recipients can use as they see fit, helping them navigate through their challenging circumstances. “We Must Not Forget Gaza,” says Sanders Statement from Bernie Sanders: While much of the media is focused on the drama of the U.S. presidential election, we must not lose sight of what is happening in Gaza, where an unprecedented humanitarian crisis continues to get even worse. Israel continues to restrict the entry of UN humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza… The results are catastrophic. Unbelievably, one in four Gazans face starvation, some 495,000 people…Many people, including children, are sifting through the rubble for food, and boiling leaves for sustenance. In searing heat, clean water is in short supply. Some 67 percent of water and sanitation infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed… These conditions have spread dangerous diseases like hepatitis and diarrhea, yet most hospitals and health clinics have been destroyed by the bombardment, and some 500 health care workers killed. Fauci said he does not know where the six foot social distancing rule came from
He also said that he was unaware of studies recommending masks for kids

Bombshell testimony from Dr. Anthony Fauci reveals he made up the six foot social distancing rule and other measures to 'protect' Americans from covid.

Republicans put out the full transcript of their sit down interview with Fauci from January just days before his highly-anticipated public testimony on Monday.

They plan to grill him about covid restrictions he put in place, that he admitted didn't do much to 'slow the spread' of the virus.

Kids' learning loss and social setbacks have been well documented, with one National Institute of Health (NIH) study calling the impact of mask use on students' literacy and learning 'very negative.'

And the impacts from social distancing caused 'depression, generalized anxiety, acute stress, and intrusive thoughts,' another NIH study found.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, claimed the six foot social distancing rule 'sort of just appeared' and said that he 'might have' reviewed studied on masking kids but 'that's still up in the air'
Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, claimed the six foot social distancing rule 'sort of just appeared' and said that he 'might have' reviewed studied on masking kids but 'that's still up in the air'
Speaking to counsel on behalf of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic earlier this year, Fauci told Republicans that the six foot social distancing rule 'sort of just appeared' and that he did not recall how it came about.

'You know, I don't recall. It sort of just appeared,' he said according to committee transcripts when pressed on how the rule came about.

He added he 'was not aware of studies' that supported the social distancing, conceding that such studies 'would be very difficult' to do.

In addition to not recalling any evidence supporting social distancing, Fauci also told the committee's counsel that he didn't remember reading anything to support that masking kids would prevent COVID.

'Do you recall reviewing any studies or data supporting masking for children?' he was asked.

'I don't recall,' Dr. Anthony Fauci told the committee when pressed on where the six foot social distancing rule came from 'It sort of just appeared,' according to his January testimony

'I might have,' he responded before adding 'but I don't recall specifically that I did.'

The pandemic patriarch also testified that he had not followed any studies after the fact regarding the impacts that forced mask wearing had on children, of which there have been many.

And his answer was an ironic COVID-esque pun, 'I still think that's up in the air,' Fauci said about whether masking kids was a solid way to prevent transmission.

Further, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) told the counsel that he believes the lab leak theory - the idea that COVID began at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) - is a real 'possibility.'

'I think people have made conspiracy aspects from it,' he said, adding 'it could be a lab leak.'

'So I think that in and of itself isn't inherently a conspiracy theory, but some people spin off things from that that are kind of crazy.'

His admission that COVID may have began at the WIV comes four years after he backed the publication of a paper which threw cold water on the lab leak theory called the 'Proximal Origin' paper.

The coronavirus committee has dedicated months to discovering the origins of the virus that upended so many lives and resulted in the deaths of 6 million people globally.

Recently they have discovered that Fauci's former top aide, Dr. David Morens, routinely conducted work on his personal email account and deleted files to avoid government transparency laws under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

His disregard for FOIA requests was so blatant that be bragged in emails to colleagues that he learned how to make official correspondence 'disappear' and that he would delete things he didn't 'want to see in the New York Times.'

Emails from Morens uncovered by the committee further revealed that he boasted about having a 'secret back channel' to Fauci where he could clandestinely communicate with the former NIAID director.

That revelation shocked the committee's chairman Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, so thoroughly that he demanded Fauci turnover his personal email and phone records to the investigative body.

Also shocking, is Fauci's admission to the committee in January that he 'never' looks at the grants that he signed off on, some of which total to millions of taxpayer dollars.

'You know, technically, I sign off on each council, but I don't see the grants and what they are. I never look at what grants are there,' he told the committee's counsel.

Further, he said he was 'not certain' that foreign labs that receive U.S. grant money, such as the WIV - which was studying coronaviruses using U.S. taxpayer dollars at the time the pandemic began - operate at the same standards of American labs.

Fauci also said that the money he gave out as a part of the NIAID grant process did not go through any national security reviews.

Additionally, the former director said he was unaware of any conflicts of interest among his staff, which included his senior advisor Dr. Morens.

However, Morens testified before the committee on May 22 that he helped his 'best friend' EcoHealth Alliance President Dr. Peter Daszak with his nonprofit's work.

Morens said he helped edit press releases for EcoHealth and worked to restore grant funding for the nonprofit after it's funding was terminated in the wake of the COVID outbreak in 2020.

NIH, which employs Morens, funded Daszak's EcoHealth to the tune of millions of dollars.

Still, Fauci said he was unaware that Morens had any conflicts of interests.

The committee will surely seek to clarify Fauci and Moren's 'secret back channel' of communication during the June 3 hearing.

Fauci just stated that he made up social distancing and masking kids as a COVID rule.

His disregard for FOIA requests was so blatant that be bragged in emails to colleagues that he learned how to make official correspondence 'disappear' and that he would delete things he didn't 'want to see in the New York Times.' Emails from Morens uncovered by the committee further revealed that he boasted about having a 'secret back channel' to Fauci where he could clandestinely communicate with the former NIAID director. On Jul. 8, 2024, the Singapore Food Agency announced that the import, sale, manufacturing, processing, and farming of select insect species for human consumption is allowed.

    Samsung
Regulations were initially targeted to come into effect in the second half of 2023.

When asked for his thoughts on the latest announcement, Foo Maosheng, who has been snacking on insects for years, noted that reactions to the news this time are more pronounced, but "it is as expected".

He also sensed that younger people appear to be more open to trying insects as food.

Nevertheless, he shared that he is "excited", and "can't wait to purchase" the products off the shelves.

"It is just in time for me to stock up," he quipped.

Note: This interview was first published on Dec. 7, 2022.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has started looking to allow the import and sale of insects and insect products for human consumption and animal feed in Singapore.

This means that some time in the near future, Singaporeans might be able to buy such products off local shelves and consume them wherever and whenever they want here.

The revelation that some people here might be crunching on the critters daily sent netizens into a frenzy of shock and disgust, but one Singaporean welcomed this piece of news.

"I actually was quite happy that they [the government] are actually allowing this to happen now," says Foo Maosheng.

    Like Rice Krispies

Foo has been eating and incorporating insects into his diet since 2015.

He got his first taste when a colleague brought back some fried bamboo worms from Thailand.

    Here's what they look like.

    Photo from Wikipedia
"It was actually not bad," the 34-year-old recalled. "It's a bit like eating Rice Krispies but just with less flavour."

Foo does not hold the same apprehension towards insects most people do.

As an entomologist studying bugs and other creepy-crawlies at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (National University of Singapore), eating insects, or entomophagy, as it's scientifically termed, is not a new concept to him.

He shared that prior to his first taste of insects, he was already aware of what it could potentially taste like, and thus when the opportunity presented itself, it was simply a moment of "okay, now that it's available for me, [there's] a chance to try, so just go ahead and try it".

"Even if I'm not an entomologist, I think I'll still be open to eating [insects]," Foo reflects.

Keeping a cockroach as a pet

Foo's fascination with bugs started as a young child, as is common among kids. Unlike others though, this interest did not fade into adulthood.

While other children frolicked around the playground, Foo recalls that he could typically be found crouched among the bushes and grass, in search of insects to collect and bring home.

A core memory for him is keeping a cockroach as his first "pet'.

Seven-year-old Foo had found it in his home, and later lured it with a piece of cut apple. He kept the cockroach for around a week in a small plastic container before another insect, a caterpillar, caught his attention.

He sustained this interest in bugs as he grew up, and Foo eventually went on to study environmental biology at the National University of Singapore.

2015 was the year Foo tried insects for the first time, sparking an all new gastronomic journey for him.

In search of other insects to try and new exotic flavour additions to his palate, he ventured online to search if any company in Singapore sells or distributes the products, but to no avail.

This is because the import and sale of insects for human consumption has not been authorised by SFA.

Foo later discovered online shops that sell the edible products he was looking for. One in particular, Thailand Unique, is located in the land of smiles but ships worldwide.

    Eating it "like snacks"

Now, Foo purchases various packs of edible bugs from Thailand Unique once a year.

Each silver ziploc pack, adorned with labels with pictures of the bugs it contains, are actually rather affordable, costing around S$4 to S$5 per pack, excluding shipping fees.

One pack can last Foo two to three weeks.

Here is Foo's stash, which includes bugs such as crickets, sago worms, weaver ants, and cicadas.

Foo shares that he munches on the insects like snacks and describes the texture as similar to nuts or biscuits.

He either eats them straight from the pack, or sprinkles them over his food dishes, like croutons on a salad, or furikake over his rice.

Occasionally, he bakes a mean pandan cake infused with bits of cricket. This, he explains, introduces a bit of a nutty taste to the sweet dessert.

When asked about his less-than wary reception to eating bugs, Foo ponders for awhile, and acknowledges that he is generally quite curious and open to trying new cuisines and foods.

"I do get that from my family. They always notice that I'm always trying new foodstuff instead of always going for the same popular or common food dishes that we can eat.

I'm not a foodie, just always open to trying new stuff."

Foo has tried introducing edible insects to his family, friends and colleagues, to mixed reactions. While some are willing to give it a try, others, more squeamish, keep the bugs at an arm's length.

"I have friends who say 'I'd rather die than eat that'."

Thus far, none of the people he knows have taken to eating insects quite like he has, and he recognises that he might one of the very few in Singapore who eats them regularly.

    Bug benefits

You might be wondering why Foo chooses edible insects over conventional snacks like chips and nuts.

After all, the edible bugs aren't exactly more flavourful than the latter, and they aren't as easily accessible for purchase either.

Foo elaborates that the main draw for him is that being much more protein-rich, which makes bugs a healthier choice than other snacks.

"Better than eating too much carbs," he remarks.

The environmental benefits of bugs as food, over meat, for example, are a boon for him as well.

Agriculture is currently a significant contributor to global warming. Meanwhile, insect cultivation uses only a fraction of the land and other resources required for the farming of meat like beef and chicken.

Crickets produce up to 80 per cent less methane than cows, according to a study by researchers in the Netherlands. Additionally, replacing half of the meat eaten around the world with mealworms and crickets can reduce the use of farmland by one-third.

For Foo, Singapore's goal to produce 30 per cent of its food supply locally by 2030 aligns with his lifestyle of entomophagy as well.

    Reviewing bugs: Fishy and salty

After expounding on the advantages of eating bugs, there's no way I can leave without at least trying some out, especially after Foo very kindly dug out his whole stash for the interview.

I've tried crickets and bamboo worms before — Foo calls them "starters", as they're the most common bugs that those new to entomophagy typically try first.

These usually have a nutty or salty taste, similar to dried salted fish.

Although Foo takes pains to elaborate on the different tastes of each bug — for example, cicadas have more earthy notes while the sago worms taste more fatty — the bug-eating amateur that I am finds that they all taste fishy and salty to me.

One of the packets is called Jungle Trail Mix. Photo by Ashley Tan
As the bugs come roasted in their packs, they're usually quite crispy and will crumble once you bite down.

To be very honest, they're not particularly aesthetically appealing either.

After trying some of the tamer specimens, Foo enthusiastically whips out a scorpion and very large water bug from their packs, much to my apprehension.

The water bug, he says, isn't very appetising, so I tentatively nibble on a very crisp leg, which ended up not really tasting like anything.

Interestingly, according to Foo, the scorpion apparently tastes like bak kwa with a bitter aftertaste.

As I take a chomp of its torso, my unrefined palate is unable to taste the meaty flavour. To me, it simply tastes salty and slightly charred.

The most exotic specimen Foo has eaten is the zebra tarantula, which costs around S$16. A single tarantula comes uniquely packaged in a small can.

Although I didn't get to try the tarantula, it supposedly tastes like crab meat, something which celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has testified to before.

Foo assures that one does not need to fear eating venomous invertebrates like the scorpion and tarantula, as the venom is deactivated once they're cooked.

However, he cautions that some people might suffer allergic reactions to the remnants of the venom left behind.

Overall, my verdict on entomophagy: It was a unique experience, and I would recommend trying it at least once.

Who knows, you might take a liking to it too.

    Normalising eating bugs

Foo foresees bugs becoming a staple in his diet, whenever it becomes readily available in Singapore.

He notes that with inflation and rising prices of protein sources like chicken and eggs, insects would be a good alternative.

Clearly from how some netizens responded to SFA's announcement in October, a good number of people in Singapore may disagree with Foo's sentiment.

Healing the Divide's Iris Koh even started a petition against SFA's announcement, calling it a threat to public safety. Thus far, it has garnered over 600 signatures.

While Foo is able to somewhat understand the netizens' perspectives, he believes that permitting the sale and consumption of insects is a progressive move.

"So when you bring this in, people may think, oh yeah, we're becoming third world. Because we are bringing that way of living from a third world country into our country. So it's understandable, but I wouldn't say is exactly that we are becoming a third world country. But it's just that we are actually moving forward ahead in order to make sure that our human population, at least in Singapore, will be able to meet that protein requirements."

Foo concedes that normalising entomophagy here will not be an easy feat — he acknowledges that there exists a "gross factor", and that the unsavoury image of bugs has been perpetuated by media and will be challenging to purge.

"It will definitely take some time," he said, and adds that educating the public, including children, on the benefits of entomophagy and debunking the stigma surrounding creepy-crawlies might go a long way.

Foo sums up his thoughts towards the naysayers in a Facebook post responding to Koh's petition:

"All in all, eating insects is not a last resort, entomophagy and the import of insects for human consumption is part of Singapore food security and food sustainability. No one is forcing you to eat insects, it is an option that is open to you."
