Let me take you back to the #ForestLakes for a panoramic view of the canyon walls that house the lakes. I'm actually half way up to the peaks and it's still a hefty climb to the top. The main #trail off of the #EastPortal #trailhead is the #SouthBoulderCreekTrail. After hiking the #ForestLakesTrail, I came back the following year for a hike to #HeartLake. As I mentioned before, this trailhead is like a choose your own adventure. There are five different destinations that either branch off into their own trail or are along this trail. Heart Lake is along this trail. The #waterfall here was within eye distance of the main trail where it branches off to #CraterLakes. Of course Nietzsche and I took a little breather here, before we continued on our way. Just before I made it to the first of four or five #ForestLakes, I came across this beautiful #waterfall. The trail pretty much follows this stream from the #SouthBoulderCreek to the Forest Lakes. Just about all trails in the #mountains follow streams, because they take the path of least resistance. The water flows year around most years and is 100% fed by the #glaciers that persist all year at these altitudes. The #creeks and #lakes are all loaded with #trout and it's a wonder how they all get there. While I don't live in the #mountains yet, that's where my heart is. I spend a lot of time visiting them and will always come back.
