We were honored to give the keynote address at the 9th edition of 'The Africa Debate' forum organized by Invest Africa at the historic Guildhall in London, United Kingdom. This prestigious forum convenes global businesses, private and public investment bodies, thought leaders, and policymakers, providing an opportunity to showcase the various trade and investment opportunities available in Africa, and specifically in Zambia. During the address, we emphasized Zambia's land-linked position, friendly people, young and energetic population, and abundant raw materials, which offers a great opportunity for investment in various sectors, particularly through joint public-private ventures. We also called for investment aimed at increasing the value addition of our raw materials within African countries, for intra-Africa and global trade. We stressed the need for African countries to harmonize digital platforms and certain laws to enable trade and investment among ourselves as we target overseas markets. It is important to note that an African rising is not meant to displace anyone, but it should benefit everyone globally. Therefore, stability and peace in our continent are paramount in attracting meaningful investments and cheaper capital. Additionally, we underscored the importance of increasing access to education and skills development for our citizens, especially our young people, to enhance business opportunities and improve the quality of job opportunities available. It was an honour to deliver a keynote speech here in Edinburgh, Scotland, at the prestigious Panmure House, the home of the father of modern economics Adam Smith. We reiterated our message on the importance of education as the best investment and the best equalizer in any society. We encouraged partnerships between Scotland and Zambia, particularly in education, health, technology, renewable energy, and private sector skills development. In our engagement with the Scottish First Minister, Humza Yousaf, we called for enhanced trade and investment support from the Scottish government to encourage joint ventures between our citizens and international investors to create long-lasting partnerships. We will continue on our mission of economic diplomacy to encourage investment, stabilize our country's financial position, and create more opportunities for our people. Fellow citizens. Straight from the coronation of King Charles III here in London, we met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of South Korea, His Excellency, Mr Han Duck-Soo. We have a lot to learn and share from our South Korean counterparts who have been able to transform into a high-income country within a short space of time. As we envisage our rapid economic transformation agenda through enhanced trade and investment opportunities, particularly in areas of technology, mechanisation, and minerals exploration, South Korea remains one of our typical models to share ideas with. During the meeting, we also discussed mutual cooperation around creating a centre for production, processing, and trade, which complements our value addition agenda. This is largely attributed to our country's geographical positioning. We are land-linked. While here, we look forward to private-public partnerships for mutual benefits.
