• World Intellectual Property Organization

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for promoting and protecting intellectual property (IP) worldwide. WIPO was established in 1967 and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

Intellectual property refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, symbols, names, and images used in commerce. Intellectual property is protected by law through patents, copyrights, trademarks, and other forms of intellectual property rights (IPR).

    WIPO's main objectives include:

Promoting Innovation and Creativity: WIPO works to encourage innovation and the creation of intellectual property by providing a platform for the development and dissemination of intellectual property policies, norms, and standards.

Facilitating the International Protection of Intellectual Property: WIPO administers international treaties that facilitate the protection of intellectual property rights across borders. This includes treaties related to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs.

Assisting Developing Countries: WIPO provides technical assistance and capacity-building programs to help developing countries establish effective intellectual property systems and use IP for economic development.

Dispute Resolution: WIPO provides services for the resolution of intellectual property disputes through mechanisms such as arbitration and mediation.

Global IP Information Services: WIPO offers various databases and information services to assist in the retrieval and dissemination of information related to intellectual property.

WIPO's member states meet regularly to discuss and develop international intellectual property policies and agreements. The organization collaborates with governments, businesses, and other stakeholders to address global challenges related to intellectual property.

It's important to note that WIPO does not grant intellectual property rights directly; instead, it provides a framework for international cooperation and sets standards that member countries can adopt into their national legal systems.

  • Enjoying one of the best inventions ever. Coffe with ice, refreshing!
I remember that at first I was reluctant and did not want to put ice with the coffee to avoid watering it down. Now I love it!

  • Chipotle will now accept cryptocurrency in US stores (Article By: Anushree Dave)
Chipotle, the popular Mexican-style fast-food restaurant chain, will now accept cryptocurrency payments through Flexa, a digital payments platform.
Flexa supports around 98 currencies, including BTC and ETH. Customers can use the app to pay for food items in any of the nearly 3000 Chipotle restaurants in the United States.
To pay with Flexa, customers will need to download Gemini or SPEDN app, both of which store digital assets. Customers can then use the app and tap it in-store to make a payment.
Chipotle joins a long list of restaurants that currently accept cryptocurrency. Subway, one of the first to accept Bitcoin in stores, started as early as 2013. Pizza Hut in Venezuela also began accepting crypto back in 2020. Starbucks allows its reward members to turn cryptocurrencies into cash balances on the Starbucks app.

Other fast-food chains are trying to experiment in blockchain and crypto in other ways, trying to create hybrid digital-physical experiences. Taco Bell, KFC, Chick-fil-A, and Carl's Jr. are just a few chains to have recently filed for brand trademarks for NFTs.

So while we are in a bear market, (it's better to accept that we are) crypto adoption is heavily increasing. Many are now familiar with the term, whilst others have started to self educate and promote. Digital currency is now not going anywhere. If art and pictures turn digital in the form of NFT making it more valuable than one could ever imagine. Currency that allows you to buy products and services most definitely will. Not many like paper,be it receipts, physical notes, newspapers or leaflets. Not forgetting the environmental side to it. It's all about paper free, contactless, cards, mobile payments etc. If thats now going to the next level through digital by means of improved technology and user convenience.. That's where the customer/consumer will go.
The past 2 years with the sudden closures, uncertainty and deprivation of family visits has had many, especially the elderly, to take on technology that they once feared and declined. Self doubt to learn and use was there because they had no reason to adapt its usage. They are now most happy with its ease, comfort, and efficiency. Allowing them to self manage their finances independently from the comfort of their home. In turn also allowing them to see and speak confidently with family, friends and grandchildren worldwide.
The future is bright and many wonderful inventions have been created. However it comes with a price. Not necessarily monetarily, but much more crucial and valuable to us such as personal data, its privacy and security. So although we could be heading in the right direction, there is always a concern. Keep yourself protected, by educational awareness and don't fall into vulnerability.
