• This morning we welcomed Heads of State, Government and delegates at the 22nd Comesa summit, in Lusaka.
We accepted the chairmanship of COMESA, which we view as a vote of confidence in Zambia.

We thanked the outgoing Chair, His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, and commended him for the achievements of COMESA under his leadership. These are the building blocks that we will set COMESA members to implement the free trade area and trade among ourselves.

This Summit captures our collective desire to see the COMESA region thrive based on the resolve to adapt, evolve, and integrate our economies while considering global, multilateral and regional developments.

We implored member states to harness the collective resource endowments of our land mass of 12 million Square kilometers and a population in excess of 580 million people.

More people-to-people relations, no-stop borders between our countries and friendly tariffs are key ingredients to
springboard more intra- Africa trade which stands at a paltry 17%.

The stability, peace and security in our region is key. Which is why we agreed that dialogue and diplomacy are a prerequisite to settling disputes.

Let’s change the narrative by working closely among the member states, towards attaining economic integration for a thriving COMESA that builds wealth and prosperity for all our peoples.

My entry for the third edition of week 65 engagement which is based on social networks. My acknowledgement goes to the management and every participants for being active on this platform.
One of the greatest assets I know is the gift of friends in fact good friends. Since I have grown to this extent, is not every one that I regard as a friend. The big question is who are my friends?
My friend is someone who is sacrificial, patient, loving and caring that is ready to give all for me. My friend sticks closer than my brother. My friend is the reflection of my kind of personality. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
The league of my friends tells a lot about me. There is a saying that says show me your friends and I will tell you who you're. That simply means your network of friends is the reflection of who you are.
Recently we have a community of friends that we called like-minded. In this kind of group consists of different friends with different kinds of ideas, profession, skills, perception etc that congregate in order to proffer solutions to needs that confronts us. Since the emergence of this kind of network some of the life challenges has been tacked even though everything is not about money but having the right sense of understanding.
A network of like minded where you can freely share and discuss your challenges is a very important platform. It's not just about an individual but the it's about the general members of such group. Everyone is blessed with a gift or talent that can add value to someone else.
Will my network have my back when times are bad? Yes of course. I have been there and I still remain there reaping the benefits of true friendship.
I could remember vividly when i was preparing for my wedding hmmm that's when I knew that there is power in having league of friends.
My friends teamed up to a reasonable number, met and discussed how they can step in for the success of my wedding. I was thinking I was just dreaming not knowing it was reality in display. A month to the wedding, I started receiving some heavy alerts in my cellphone. I was shocked to my bones over such act of benevolence.
I thought is just all about contribution of resources for the success of the wedding but I realised something Wow the day of the main event of the wedding. Early in the morning as we were preparing to step out to church behold everywhere was littered with my friends in their uniforms which gladdened my heart and added a very good colour to the wedding.
    LESSONS

Before you maintain any network of friends, kindly identify your life's goal. Your goal or purpose on earth determine the kind of friends you'll keep. Vision, purpose and mission is very important.
Don't be in a rush to pull friends just in the name of having network but allow time to define certain things.
Your kind of network of friends is the function of who you are. Therefore be very careful in choice and association.
Some friends are source of inspiration.
    CONCLUSION
One of the outstanding thing in my life today is my best man during my wedding. I call him shock absorber and twin brother simply because he's a true definition of friend. He patiently bore all my weaknesses and projected it as strength hence today, I am better and always on the improving side.

    Happy 125th Independence Day!
This blogging contest for June initiated by @hiveph reminds me of my years of stay in South Korea, from 2012 to 2016. During my four years of stay there, I remember a day when I participated in a lecture in Seoul sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation. That was on 26 May 2014.
The topic in that lecture was Freedom Barometer in Asia. The speaker emphasized that political freedom, the rule of law, and economic freedom are the three aspects of freedom that are discussed in contemporary discourse. I learned then that there are ten variables utilized to assess the freedom status of countries in Asia. At that time, the Philippines ranked eighth out of seventeen countries.
Preparing this piece, I visited the site where I got that information before, but the links are all dead. I am curious to know the current freedom status of the country after nine years. This is an inescapable reality in the cyber world. What you think about content that will stay on the web will soon disappear without you knowing it. And this is what I like about blockchain technology. Whatever you put on the chain will be there no matter what. Such a stable feature of this cutting-edge technology is somehow comforting, but at the same should make us extra cautious in creating content. You cannot remove it; it will stay there even after decades that you’re no longer here on this side of life.
Among the ten variables, access to sound money is a key component of economic freedom. This caught my attention. I was a gold bug then. I saw that sound money as defined by Jorg Guido Hulsman and Thorstein Polleit of the Mises Institute is a vital aspect of economic freedom.
However, my view changed after encountering blockchain and cryptocurrency in August of 2021. For so long, since the 2008 crash of the housing market, I have been looking for an alternative monetary system, and I thought that the return to The Gold Standard is the only way.
Just two months ago, that was 09 April this year, Milan Stanojevic published his opinion on bitcoinmagazine.com about the possibility that the move of the BRICS nations to return to The Gold Standard can usher into the hyperbitcoinization of the world. I am not sure if you agree with his opinion or not, but that’s how he sees the current trend in geopolitics and macroeconomics.
Returning to my independence topic, I think it is not inappropriate for us Filipinos to be reminded by none other than our national hero himself saying that economic freedom is essential for complete independence. In other words, political and cultural freedom are not enough. They could be illusory and can give us a shadow of independence.
In commemorating the 125th Independence Day of the Philippines, I hope and pray that an increasing number of the younger generation in the country will come to realize the correlation between freedom and an alternative monetary system. If returning to the Gold Standard is not the way to achieve it, then how about the option provided by blockchain and cryptocurrency? We have been learning here on Hive that the platform can provide what we badly need that can give substance to our understanding of economic freedom.
Responding to the question about the importance of independence, yes, I do believe that independence is very important. However, in the digital world where the reality of globalization is at anyone’s fingertip, I think we are not far from the truth if we will begin to embrace this idea of a digital nation. And the number one threat to this new kind of freedom and independence is no longer a powerful nation, but those who posture themselves that they know better than us what we are supposed to do not only in our social media interaction but also in our financial transactions. This to me is the new battlefield in our time.
    Grace and peace!

  • Change in the US dollar dominance
We are at a convergence point where I just read that the dominance of the US dollar has diminished to 58% internationally. Something we can predict for sure is people have lost faith in the US dollar!
When you live artificially on credit to manage a government without controlling your spending.
    It is scary!
An individual who does not control it is spending and living on credit cards. The outcome will materialize in bankruptcy. It is important to always control your cash flow.
In the case of the US government, they just increase the debt ceiling and print again more money. They have privileges that they have abused and keep repeating.
    Global reputations
Don't blame other influential countries for trying to change the chessboard globally. It is always a question of prestige, power, and balance in the world order.
Nothing can remain the same forever and everything changes!
Countries like China, and Russia keep buying gold for preserving value because fiat money has a tendency to keep dropping. Even governments who have the US dollar as a reserve, lose purchasing power.
We know the US has a tendency to keep printing money for fixing every issue they have. During the covid pandemic, they have injected over 4 trillion dollars into the economy.
    Something needs to change
I believe the accumulation of gold by central banks is the best option on the table. This precious metal has proved to preserve wealth for over 5000 years in human history.
Until we mine gold in space...we need to bet on this asset to keep more money in our pockets. Maybe soon we are going to see central banks purchase assets like Bitcoin, and Ethereum to have value in their balance sheets.
Crypto offers a good alternative to the actual financial system. We are not there yet but it is something we can see appear in the next decade.
We are in a transitional state in the financial world. Nothing is permanent and change brings novelty and fresh air.
    Focus on central banks
I don't believe the Yuan will be the solution in the short and medium term as a global currency. An authoritarian regime that tries to control everything from individuals to freedom, companies.
I prefer Western values where you have the freedom to express, live, and breathe the way your want.
Banks will keep purchasing gold and make sure they have enough on their balance sheet. You cannot keep using the US dollar as a global currency. We have seen that the US just put more money into the circulation.
    Last word
The de-dollarization is a reality that we experience as we speak and is going to accentuate in the next 5 years. We have to bet on gold, crypto, and Bitcoin which is completely decentralized.
I don't know what the future might bring but we need to embrace this paradigm shift with an open mind. We have always the option to choose to invest in assets that keep their value.
To rely only on the US dollar is a reality we need to change and adapt.
Have a wonderful and blossoming day!
PS: It is only my personal opinion. I am not a financial advisor and always do my own research.

  • On this day in 1967, during the Six Day War, the Old City of Jerusalem was liberated by Israeli paratroopers. One of the sites that they liberated was the Western Wall. Before this happened, there were so many years that the Jewish people were not allowed to pray by the Western Wall - when the ability to visit it again seemed like a far off dream. Now we have the freedom to be able to visit and pray by that same Wall that our ancestors longed to return to.
