  • Stuck Between a Rock and the ER
Dealing with kidney stone emergencies requires a different approach than that which resolves the chronic underlying causes

    Dr. Syed Haider

We usually advocate for careful, measured medical solutions. We rail against the tendency to try to “hack” biology, because biology can’t be hacked without hacking it to bits.

And yet, sometimes you just have to cut the Gordian knot, because there’s a difference between emergency care and chronic care.

In emergencies you’re willing to do things that you might never do outside of them because in every situation you have to weigh the risks and benefits. When you have time on your side you can take it easy and do things the right way, without little or no risk at all. When you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place like the ER you often have to make concessions because the ER can mean even risker treatments and procedures that are often quite expensive as well.

Kidney stones can be excruciatingly painful to pass, and sometimes they won’t pass at all if they’re too large. No matter how much painkiller you receive it may not do much at all when the spasmodic pains hit. And using the strongest opiate painkillers like morphine can worsen spasms of the ureter so patients are usually started on high dose ibuprofen, perhaps alpha blockers like tamsulosin to reduce spasms, and plenty of fluids to help flush the kidney stone out.

Kidney Stones (Nephrolithiasis) - Symptoms and Causes
If that doesn’t work then some types and sizes of stones can be broken up by a shockwave (lithotripsy) procedure, others require retrieval via a freaky endoscopic procedure call ureteroscopy, and still others may require a full on open surgery. 1 in 1000 to 1 in 2000 ureterscopy procedures will result in severe complications like avulsion of the ureter, requiring extensive surgical repair. Of course any major surgical procedure can involve complications, but for most people the biggest complication will be to their pocketbooks. With insurance you’re looking at $1000s in copays and without insurance 10s of $1000s. Finally and perhaps worst of all is the amount of time it takes to finally get relief from the stone. It could be many hours in the ER just waiting for the procedure to be arranged.

In this and other similar situations it’s always good to have a plan B, or even a plan A that you can institute yourself.

We’ve seen incredible results from two simple approaches to acute kidney stones. The first can be done by nearly anyone at any time and you just need a bunch of lemons and water. The second is more specialized and is the herb Chanca Piedra, which might be good to keep on hand if stones are a recurrent problem.

Lemons are well known to help prevent the two mosts common types of kidney stones - calcium oxalate and uric acid, they’ve been mentioned by the Harvard Health website and many dialed-in urologists will let you know about lemon juice for prevention. Lemon juice has citric acid, which becomes citrate when excreted in the urine. This reduces acidity of the urine which can dissolve uric acid stones. The citrate also binds calcium ions to prevent calcium oxalate formation.

It is not usually considered likely for citrate from lemonade or any other source to be able to shrink a calcium oxalate stone once it forms, but it seems like it should be possible. And we have to understand that even shaving off a tiny bit of an impacted stone can mean the difference between surgery and spontaneously passing it.

Now at the surface of a calcium oxalate stone in the urine there would always be some flux of calcium ions either joining the stone or leaving it. The tendency towards one or the other would be influenced by how many calcium ions are dissolved in the urine. With the addition of citrate which binds and removes calcium ions from the urine, more calcium would be released from the calcium oxalate stone, thereby leading to progressive shrinkage of the stone. Perhaps a biochemist can chime in with a predicted rate of dissolution, but lets see what we can come up with.

The likelihood of a stone passing naturally depends on its size (diameter):

1 mm: 87% chance of passing

2–4 mm: 76% chance of passing

5–7 mm: 60% chance of passing

7–9 mm: 48% chance of passing

Larger than 9 mm: 25% chance of passing

Kidney stones Memes and Images - Imgur
Based on the weight of calcium oxalate and assuming a spherical stone shape, the following are the typical weights of various diameter stones:

    Small Stones (1-5 mm):

Volume range: 0.5 mm³ to 65.45 mm³

Weight range: Approximately 1 mg to 137 mg.

    Medium Stones (5-10 mm):

Volume range: 65.45 mm³ to 523.6 mm³

Weight range: Approximately 137 mg to 1100 mg.

    Large Stones (10-15 mm):

Volume range: 523.6 mm³ to 1767 mm³

Weight range: Approximately 1100 mg to 3710 mg.

So if we can somehow manage to dissolve gram ranges of calcium oxalate we would have a very good chance of partially or completely dissolving any stone stuck in the ureter.

Thanks for reading Dr. Syed Haider! This post is public so feel free to share it.

    1. Amount of Citrate in Lemon Juice

Citrate Content: Lemon juice is a rich source of citrate. On average, one lemon (about 48 grams of lemon juice) contains approximately 1.44 grams of citrate.

Daily Intake: If someone were to drink the juice of 16 lemons in day (8 glasses of 500ml with 2 lemons in each), this would provide approximately 23 grams of citrate.

    2. Citrate Absorption and Excretion

Absorption and Metabolism: After ingestion, citrate is absorbed in the intestines, and a portion is metabolized in the body, while the remainder is excreted in the urine. The efficiency of absorption and excretion can vary, but it’s generally estimated that about 20-40% of ingested citrate is excreted unchanged in the urine.

Urinary Citrate Increase: If we assume a 30% excretion rate, consuming 5.76 grams of citrate would result in approximately 7 grams of citrate entering the urine.

    3. Citrate Binding to Calcium

Calcium Binding: Citrate binds to calcium in the urine, forming soluble calcium-citrate complexes. The effectiveness of this binding depends on the concentration of calcium and citrate in the urine.

Binding Capacity: Each mole of citrate can theoretically bind one mole of calcium (even though citrate is trivalent, often only one binding site is involved in a stable complex in biological conditions). The binding of calcium by citrate is pH-dependent, with better binding at higher urinary pH (above 6.5), and citrate itself tends to raise the pH of urine. If we estimate that 7 grams of citrate could bind to a proportional amount of calcium (assuming typical urinary conditions), it could potentially bind up to around 1500 mg of calcium (since citrate and calcium have different molar weights).

    4. Impact on Calcium Oxalate Stones

Impact on Stone Size: This should significantly reduce the stone size because 1500 mg of calcium represents about 5400 mg of calcium oxalate (the oxalate contributes its own weight when combined to calcium in the stone) and 5400mg is more than the weight of even most very large ureteral stones.

    Homemade Lemonade
It seems from the above that drinking plenty of lemon juice could have an outsized impact on any stone stuck in the ureter or anywhere else, and even on much larger stones stuck in the kidneys. Perhaps unsurprisingly many people have reported anecdotally that drinking lots of lemon juice when they develop any type of kidney stone has helped dissolve it.

In light of the calculations and reports it’s possible that lemon juice shrinks stones via the above laid out acetate in the urine mechanism (assuming there are no mistaken assumptions, like how fast the stone releases calcium at its surface), or that there is some other active principle in lemon juice that shrinks stones or stimulates relaxation of the ureters to allow them to pass, or that there is a placebo effect, or that people tend to be able to stomach more lemonade than they can plain water, and it’s just the relatively increased urine output that helps the situation.

In any event if I had a stone I would drink as much lemonade as I could to see if I could get rid of it, despite every publicly searchable source swearing it wouldn’t help because I tend to believe other people’s experience over biased researchers and scientists. If I weren’t quite so confident I might drink the lemonade on the way to the ER, and while waiting for a urologist to show up - if it worked, great, if not, no harm, no foul.

Chanca Piedra, Spanish for the “Stone Breaker”

The other kidney stone remedy has more research to back it up than lemon juice does, though you’ll usually have to go out of your way to find it instead of just visiting your local grocery store. Chanca Piedra is an Amazonian herb that is well known in local lore to both help prevent and treat kidney stones. Similar to lemon juice it increases citrate secretion into the urine which will bind calcium. It increases the secretion of magnesium, which also inhibits calcium oxalate formation. It also has known diuretic (increased urine flow), antispasmodic, antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects that may all contribute to fast and pain-free stone passage.

    Gallstones

Now, no treatment of acute painful stones that land you in the ER would be complete without touching on gallstones. There’s sure to be a way to treat these, but unfortunately we’re not as certain of a one size fits all remedy for this (let us know what you’ve got). I would caution against removing the gallbladder though, as it’s a crucial organ for proper digestion and for maintaining proper hormonal balance since bile is directly involved in fat digestion, including cholesterol, which is the precursor of all hormones. It’s also required for the digestion and absorption of the important fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Of course bile will continue to be produced even without a gallbladder, but its synchronized, well-timed release during the process of digestion will be impaired.

Gallbladder Disease in Children - HealthyChildren.org
Removing the gallbladder can also contribute to estrogen excess, since extra estrogen is partly dumped into the gut via the bile and when not normally depleted may contribute to many common modern diseases such as:

    Obesity

    Heart Disease

    Diabetes

    Strokes

    Cancer

    Thyroid Dysfunction

    Endometriosis

    Uterine Fibroids

    Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

    Osteoporosis

Many people have already had their gallbladders removed, but they do keep producing bile and the situation can still be balanced out by optimizing lifestyle factors and oftentimes a psuedo-gallbladder will even reform due to dilation of the remaining bile ducts, which allows larger boluses of bile to be injected into the gut when called for, similar to what would happen with a normal gallbladder.

    Coffee Enemas and Gallstones

Various enemas have been used since ancient times by every ancient medical system. Coffee enemas were first documented in the early 20th century. They were reportedly used by soldiers in WWI for pain control. They were popluarized by Max Gerson in the 1930s as an alternative therapy for liver and gallbladder flushing and support and in the alternative treatment of cancer. The best type for this purpose is organic, green, unroasted, heavy metal and mold free coffee.

This is how coffee enemas may help with gallstones:

    Absorption:

Whither Caffeine? The difference between a coffee enema and simply drinking the coffee lies in where the coffee and caffeine ends up. When you drink coffee the caffeine is primarily absorbed by the stomach and small intestine, and enters the systemic circulation traveling throughout the body before going to the liver to be metabolized out of the bloodstream. However with an enema the coffee and caffeine are primarily absorbed into the portal vein which feed straight into the liver. Here the effects of coffee will be concentrated, and coffee will also be metabolised and removed from the blood, rather than traveling on to the rest of the body. Research confirms that blood levels of caffeine are 2.5X lower after a coffee enema, compared to drinking the same quantity of coffee, and this is important because caffeines effect on the brain and rest of the body is not usually conducive to healing from chronic illness.

    Stimulation of Bile Flow:

Bile Production & Flow: Caffeinated coffee specifically has been shown to stimulate the production of bile by the liver and promote its flow through the bile ducts by stimulating the contraction of the gallbladder. Enhanced bile flow can theoretically help prevent the formation of gallstones by keeping bile less concentrated and reducing the likelihood of cholesterol crystallization. It should also help break up or flush out stones already present since stagnation of bile is a risk factor for stone formation.

Bile Duct Dilation: It’s possible coffee enemas cause dilation of the bile ducts, which could facilitate the passage of small stones or sludge, though this effect is not well-documented.

    Lemon Juice and Gallstones

Not the first thing we think of for gallstones, but since we used it for kidney stones, lets check it out here as well. Traditionally it has been used and is usually taken with olive oil for gallstones.

    Bile Production and Flow:

Lemon juice is high in citric acid, which stimulates bile production. Bile is essential for the digestion and emulsification of fats, and an increase in bile flow might help prevent the formation of gallstones and help break them down, particularly cholesterol stones. The antioxidant vitamin C in lemon juice could help support liver function including bile production.

    Chanca Piedra and Gallstones

Again since we mentioned it for kidney stones it’s worth looking at here as well.

    Hepatoprotective and Choleretic Effects:

Chanca Piedra has been traditionally used for various liver and gallbladder conditions. Some studies have indicated that it has hepatoprotective (liver-protecting) properties and may increase bile secretion (choleretic effect) which could help dissolve and flush out stones.

    Potential Stone Dissolution:

Like its use in kidney stones, Chanca Piedra is believed by some to have poorly characterized litholytic (stone-dissolving) properties. While most of the evidence for this comes from studies on kidney stones, there is some traditional use and anecdotal evidence suggesting it might also be helpful for gallstones.

Thanks for reading Dr. Syed Haider! This post is public so feel free to share it.

    Other Herbs for Gallstones

There are many herbal remedies for gallbladder issues, but they’re beyond the scope of this article and should be recommended by a practitioner who analyzes the patient’s specific situation.

    Bile Acids for Gallstones

Not considered an acute remedy, but more long term, is the supplementation of bile acids that are found in normal bile, but may be “deficient” in someone with gallstones. Ursodeoxycholic acid is often used. It helps remove cholesterol from the bile and dissolves cholesterol gallstones over time. There is a pharmaceutical version and you can also get animal sourced bile acid supplements. Should only be considered as an adjunct to real deep resolution.

    Bonus: Third “Rock”

There’s one acute condition you’re unlikely to get treated in the ER and that’s a severe toothache, because dentists don’t usually visit ERs. This can be as painful as any other pathology and even strong painkillers have a hard time blunting it. The ER is likely to give you an antibiotic and a painkiller and then refer you to a dentist. If you’re lucky they’ll inject a temporary nerve block that will probably wear off in a few hours. All this for a price that may be in the thousands of dollars and can involve a lot of time in excruciating pain waiting to be seen.

The single most effective and fastest treatment for any toothache, including an abscessed tooth is to bite on a fresh clove of garlic with the painful tooth. Pain is typically gone within a couple minutes. Though the garlic juice released can cause some brief burning in your mouth it’s well worth it. Garlic combines a nerve block and antibiotic in one. I have personally witnessed the effects which can last for 12-24 hours. It can be repeated as needed and can completely resolve not only the pain but even the underlying infection itself, reversing swelling, warmth, tenderness and temperature sensitivity within a day or two.

The primary side effect aside from the mucosal burning from the juice is nuclear breath and distorted taste.

Something that is much less smelly than garlic may work as well and that’s black cloves. You can try biting on 1-5 cloves with the affected tooth and often achieve the same effect, but if not you can always graduate to the garlic.

Some people hate the dentist so much they go on to live with cloves in their mouth, allowing them to continue ignoring the underlying problem of dental disease caused by dietary and other lifestyle indiscretions. This is of course a recipe for eventual disaster.

Like all the short term solutions, it’s not meant to be used as a long term bandaid. Anecdotally it is possible to actually heal teeth and avoid dentistry, but it does take dedication and significant lifestyle change. As with any disease process the approach is essentially to remove toxins and chronic pathogens which many people like have growin in the roots of multiple teeth - eg press your gums looking for any tender spots. Along with removing the harm we have to support the teeth with the right lifestyle choices and diet. Then we just have to wait long enough for these changes to take effect.

    Acute Care vs Chronic

Some people figure out how to mitigate their acute kidney or gallstone issues, and then they turn that into their chronic care plan. There are many cases of patients who once they figure out that lemon juice will prevent further attacks simply drink lemonade daily and think no more of it.

The problem of course is that this doesn’t address the root cause of the problem.

It’s like having a leak in from the second floor bathroom and just painting over it, or when it gets worse just repairing the area that was leaked and making it waterproof.

Sooner or later the water will just go somewhere else and spring another leak.

The same happens in your body. The first symptom is just an early warning sign. It’s like the canary in the coal mine. When that canary died, the miners hightailed it out of there before they dropped dead too. The toxic gas dropped the little bird at much lower concentrations than it did the big miners, but once the gas started leaking they knew it would just keep building up until it got them too.

The same in your kidney or liver/gallbladder. There is some mixture of causes: toxins/pathogens and nutrient/nourishment deficiencies that is harming your organ. Left unaddressed it will keep harming your organ even if you neutralize its ability to create stones.

You’ve kept yourself comfortable by shutting up your early warning system. It’s like theres an enemy attacking and you were annoyed by the air raid sirens so you just shut them off and ignored the developing situation.

So what do you do instead?

Knowing the cause means knowing the solution.

In traditional medical thought the kidneys were linked to fear and willpower. Kidney disease or dysfunction was associated with deep-seated fears, insecurities, and a lack of resolve and resilience.

The gallbladder was seen as the organ responsible for decision-making, courage, and the capacity to act, so gallbladder issues were often linked to indecisiveness, trouble standing up for oneself, or suppressed anger/feelings.

The body often gives you a sign by compensating for lack of one thing by overdoing another. There is a common psychological thread linking the emotional aspects of both organs related to willpower and decisiveness. And this excessive softness may eventually be balanced by the hardness manifested in the stones that may form in one or the other organ.

    Two Peas in a Pod

Kidney diseases usually happen in those who have prolonged internal or external conflicts with spouses, partners or other people close to them.

The kidneys are a paired organ, and its been said by the ancients they represent two people gazing at each other intently, or one person looking deeply at their own reflection in a mirror. This symbolism underscores the traditional view of the kidneys' connection to one's partner and oneself. It suggests that one can either view their partner as an extension of themselves or as a separate entity. When individuals begin to see their partner as an outsider rather than a reflection of themselves, it disrupts their unity and causes significant stress, leading to disconnection. Ideally, a husband and wife should function as a single entity, in perfect harmony, like one soul inhabiting two bodies. This reflects the traditional ideal of marriage.

Another layer to this is seeing other people and the rest of the creation as one’s own reflection also. This is a spiritual perspective that engenders radical responsibility for everything that happens in life, including what is done to one by other people.

The idea is that the Divine Will is the only Actor in the Universe and from the perspective of each individual, everything that happens is due to Divine Providence. The purpose of existence is to better know oneself and perfect oneself to better know the Divine and draw closer to that Reality. In order for that to happen the Universe and everything in it must reflect each individuals failings, so everything that happens and everything anyone does to one is meant to illuminate ones own imperfections so they can be worked upon.

From this perspective individuals don’t blame others, but only blame themselves for whatever happens to them. It is an empowering perspective, rather than one of victimhood.

So the kidneys actually represent more than just a person’s relationship with their closest partner or companion, but actually reflect their relationship with themselves. This relationship with onesself is simply most evident in the relationship with those closest to one, but it extends to the entire universe. So even a lack of harmony with nature, particularly the light encoded circadian rhythms, can also have a significant negative impact on kidney health.

It should therefore come as no surprise that in Classical Chinese medical thought, the kidneys are considered the seat of wisdom, because it takes great insight to see one's partner and others and the entire universe all as a reflections of oneself - or in other words a Divine Act meant to illuminate your self to you. Considering the slings and arrows of fortune as “the other” entails a rejection ones own true nature, which is what is being reflected back at one. Deeply accepting oneself means accepting ones own responsibility for everything in life and improving it.

In our experience, patients with kidney issues, invariably, upon a thorough exploration of their lives, reveal some form of conscious or subconscious conflict with others. While these conflicts may not always be immediately visible, they can manifest in various subtle ways. A skilled physician needs to listen attentively to every detail of the patient's description of their condition and life experiences to identify these underlying conflicts. If patients faile to recognize and address these conflicts, and if they don’t accept guidance to resolve them, we can only offer temporary patchwork solutions rather than truly restoring kidney vitality and providing deep healing.

There may be exceptions where kidney damage results from toxic protein shakes, bodybuilding supplements, excessive intake of processed meats, or poor sleep habits (conneccted to circadian rhythms). However, even in these cases, outright kidney damage typically occurs only if the kidneys' underlying vitality has already been undermined by internal relationship conflicts, and those should always be assumed to be present, since who doesn’t have them to some degree or other?

    Trickle Down vs Bottom Up

It may seem fantastical to some, but this higher level is where the weakness in organs usually originates. After organs have been weakened chronically by the energetic deficiency that manifests from an underlying psychological issue, the problem will manifest physically as typical nutrient deficiencies and toxin/pathogen build up in that organ.

It is possible to mitigate these problems from higher up, at the level of the psyche, or lower down at the level of the physical body, but for a real deep resolution you often have to work on both, because they are both interconnected and interdependent. They are just manifestations of a single whole.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to describe a generic physical or emotional protocol for every case of kidney or gallbladder disease, but the general approach will be the same because it’s founded in the basic principles of human health and disease: we are one interconnected whole, our body responds to our thoughts and emotions. Chronic harmful thoughts and emotions create chronic bodily dysfunction which manifests as deficiencies and toxicities.

It may appear to some people that their dysfunction was obviously due to a purely physical insult, like a parasite, other microbe, or a vaccine or other injury, or chronic stress or other toxicity. However these same causes affect innumerable other people who don’t end up with kidney or gallbladder issues like stones. Who gets what in response to common toxins in the environment depends on which organs are constitutionally weak. Constitutional weakness can have a genetic element as well, which predisposes someone to certain psychological issues. But this can still be fixed. Genes aren’t your destiny, their just the first draft script you've been given to edit as you see fit.

Graduating to the level of taking radical responsiblity for yourself will allow any disease to be healed. This is the most satisfying path because it’s a journey of spiritual progress which gets at the reason for your entire existence, which is to better know the Divine, by better knowing your own failings and correcting them bit by bit. The more you grow the closer you become and the more subtle your failings become that you continue to uncover. Everything that happens is just a reflection of you, taken by the Divine and cast back at you to get you to wake up and change.

Stuck Between a Rock and the ER Dealing with kidney stone emergencies requires a different approach than that which resolves the chronic underlying causes Dr. Syed Haider We usually advocate for careful, measured medical solutions. Kidney Stones (Nephrolithiasis) - Symptoms and Causes If that doesn’t work then some types and sizes of stones can be broken up by a shockwave (lithotripsy) procedure, others require retrieval via a freaky endoscopic procedure call ureteroscopy, and still others may require a full on open surgery. The likelihood of a stone passing naturally depends on its size (diameter): 1 mm: 87% chance of passing 2–4 mm: 76% chance of passing 5–7 mm: 60% chance of passing 7–9 mm: 48% chance of passing Larger than 9 mm: 25% chance of passing Kidney stones Memes and Images - Imgur Based on the weight of calcium oxalate and assuming a spherical stone shape, the following are the typical weights of various diameter stones: Small Stones (1-5 mm): Volume range: 0.5 mm³ to 65.45 mm³ Weight range: Approximately 1 mg to 137 mg. Medium Stones (5-10 mm): Volume range: 65.45 mm³ to 523.6 mm³ Weight range: Approximately 137 mg to 1100 mg. Large Stones (10-15 mm): Volume range: 523.6 mm³ to 1767 mm³ Weight range: Approximately 1100 mg to 3710 mg. So if we can somehow manage to dissolve gram ranges of calcium oxalate we would have a very good chance of partially or completely dissolving any stone stuck in the ureter. Thanks for reading Dr. Syed Haider! This post is public so feel free to share it. Share 1. Amount of Citrate in Lemon Juice Citrate Content: Lemon juice is a rich source of citrate. 2. Citrate Absorption and Excretion Absorption and Metabolism: After ingestion, citrate is absorbed in the intestines, and a portion is metabolized in the body, while the remainder is excreted in the urine. 3. Citrate Binding to Calcium Calcium Binding: Citrate binds to calcium in the urine, forming soluble calcium-citrate complexes. 4. Impact on Calcium Oxalate Stones Impact on Stone Size: This should significantly reduce the stone size because 1500 mg of calcium represents about 5400 mg of calcium oxalate (the oxalate contributes its own weight when combined to calcium in the stone) and 5400mg is more than the weight of even most very large ureteral stones. Homemade Lemonade It seems from the above that drinking plenty of lemon juice could have an outsized impact on any stone stuck in the ureter or anywhere else, and even on much larger stones stuck in the kidneys. Chanca Piedra, Spanish for the “Stone Breaker” The other kidney stone remedy has more research to back it up than lemon juice does, though you’ll usually have to go out of your way to find it instead of just visiting your local grocery store. Gallstones Now, no treatment of acute painful stones that land you in the ER would be complete without touching on gallstones. Gallbladder Disease in Children - HealthyChildren.org Removing the gallbladder can also contribute to estrogen excess, since extra estrogen is partly dumped into the gut via the bile and when not normally depleted may contribute to many common modern diseases such as: Obesity Heart Disease Diabetes Strokes Cancer Thyroid Dysfunction Endometriosis Uterine Fibroids Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Osteoporosis Many people have already had their gallbladders removed, but they do keep producing bile and the situation can still be balanced out by optimizing lifestyle factors and oftentimes a psuedo-gallbladder will even reform due to dilation of the remaining bile ducts, which allows larger boluses of bile to be injected into the gut when called for, similar to what would happen with a normal gallbladder. Coffee Enemas and Gallstones Various enemas have been used since ancient times by every ancient medical system. This is how coffee enemas may help with gallstones: Absorption: Whither Caffeine? Stimulation of Bile Flow: Bile Production & Flow: Caffeinated coffee specifically has been shown to stimulate the production of bile by the liver and promote its flow through the bile ducts by stimulating the contraction of the gallbladder. Lemon Juice and Gallstones Not the first thing we think of for gallstones, but since we used it for kidney stones, lets check it out here as well. Traditionally it has been used and is usually taken with olive oil for gallstones. Bile Production and Flow: Lemon juice is high in citric acid, which stimulates bile production. Bile is essential for the digestion and emulsification of fats, and an increase in bile flow might help prevent the formation of gallstones and help break them down, particularly cholesterol stones. The antioxidant vitamin C in lemon juice could help support liver function including bile production. Chanca Piedra and Gallstones Again since we mentioned it for kidney stones it’s worth looking at here as well. Hepatoprotective and Choleretic Effects: Chanca Piedra has been traditionally used for various liver and gallbladder conditions. Some studies have indicated that it has hepatoprotective (liver-protecting) properties and may increase bile secretion (choleretic effect) which could help dissolve and flush out stones. Potential Stone Dissolution: Like its use in kidney stones, Chanca Piedra is believed by some to have poorly characterized litholytic (stone-dissolving) properties. While most of the evidence for this comes from studies on kidney stones, there is some traditional use and anecdotal evidence suggesting it might also be helpful for gallstones. Thanks for reading Dr. Syed Haider! This post is public so feel free to share it. Share Other Herbs for Gallstones There are many herbal remedies for gallbladder issues, but they’re beyond the scope of this article and should be recommended by a practitioner who analyzes the patient’s specific situation. Bile Acids for Gallstones Not considered an acute remedy, but more long term, is the supplementation of bile acids that are found in normal bile, but may be “deficient” in someone with gallstones. Ursodeoxycholic acid is often used. It helps remove cholesterol from the bile and dissolves cholesterol gallstones over time. There is a pharmaceutical version and you can also get animal sourced bile acid supplements. Should only be considered as an adjunct to real deep resolution. Bonus: Third “Rock” There’s one acute condition you’re unlikely to get treated in the ER and that’s a severe toothache, because dentists don’t usually visit ERs. Acute Care vs Chronic Some people figure out how to mitigate their acute kidney or gallstone issues, and then they turn that into their chronic care plan. In both cases there may be a kind of pathological softness, in other words an inability to be firm. Gaza records first polio case as UN calls for truce to tackle virus

Al Jazeera reports: The Health Ministry in Gaza has said that it detected the first polio case in the besieged enclave, hours after United Nations officials called for a pause in the fighting to enable a vaccination campaign for children against the virus.

In a statement on Friday, the Health Ministry blamed the “difficult” conditions in Gaza – including the spread of sewage water in the streets, shortages of medical supplies and lack of personal hygiene products due to the Israeli blockade – for the emergence of the virus in the territory.

Hours earlier, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had called for humanitarian pauses in the war in Gaza to conduct a polio vaccine campaign.

“It is impossible to conduct a polio vaccination campaign with war raging all over,” he told reporters at the UN headquarters in New York.

Guterres appealed for assurances of humanitarian pauses to be provided immediately from the warring parties as he warned that preventing and containing the spread of polio in Gaza would take a massive coordinated and urgent effort.

“Let’s be clear: The ultimate vaccine for polio is peace and an immediate humanitarian ceasefire,” Guterres said. “But in any case, a polio pause is a must.”

Latest evacuation order leaves just 11 percent of Gaza for Gazans; food kitchens in crisis

OCHA reports: The Israeli military issued an order on 16 August that affects six blocs in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, including two within the Israeli-designated zone in Al Mawasi in western Khan Younis.

This is one of the largest evacuation orders affecting the zone to date, and it shrinks the size of the so-called “humanitarian area” to about 41 square kilometers, or 11 per cent of the total area of the Gaza Strip.

Initial mapping indicates that this order affects 122 internally displaced persons sites, makeshift shelters, and collective centers that are collectively hosting over 170,000 people.

There is an urgent need for increased hot meal capacity in Gaza due to recurrent waves of displacement, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported on 12 August. Many community kitchens in central and southern Gaza struggle due to unstable supplies of humanitarian cargo and the lack of food and fuel.

The situation has worsened since 22 July following the issuance of multiple evacuation orders in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, which forced the relocation of four kitchens and the closure of 19 food delivery points.

Moreover, in Deir al Balah, about 1,400 metric tons of food stocks in one of the warehouses became inaccessible and only one WFP warehouse with about 3,000 metric tons of commodities is currently accessible but is insufficient to meet the August cycle requirements.

In July, 70 community kitchens in Gaza supported by WFP provided around 11.5 million hot meals to more than 200,000 people, the majority in central Gaza.

Of the total food cargo entering through Kerem Shalom Crossing in July, only eight per cent was humanitarian aid and the rest were commercial trucks. There was reportedly a slight improvement in food availability and diversity in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, but a deterioration in other governorates, and persistent challenges to market functionality including high food prices, lack of liquidity and the emergence of “thieves markets.”

Israeli settlers rampage across Palestinian town in latest West Bank pogrom

The Cradle reports: More than 70 armed Jewish settlers invaded the Palestinian town of Jit in the occupied West Bank on 15 August, firing bullets and tear gas at residents and setting several homes and cars and other property on fire, CNN reported.

Settlers killed 23-year-old Rashid Sedda during the pogrom. The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Health confirmed the 23-year-old Palestinian died due to a gunshot wound to the chest.

“We have attacks but nothing to this level,” the head of Jit’s village council, Nasser Sedda, told CNN. “We haven’t seen anything like this before, and without a prior warning. They caught the people off guard – women, children, and elders were there.”

“Dozens of Israeli civilians, some of them masked, entered the town of Jit and set fire to vehicles and structures in the area, hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

Haaretz reported that the only person arrested after the settler raid on the village of Jit was suspected of interfering with a policeman and was released. No arrests have yet been made for those involved in the pogrom.

And as this IAK video reported eight years ago, Israeli blockades of Gaza began years before Hamas came to power:

Gaza Freedom Flotilla: Activists prepare to defy Israel naval blockade of Gaza

Reuters reports: Peace activists from several countries are setting out on a converted trawler to defy an Israeli blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

“The purpose of this mission is to send a message that civil society is not OK with what’s happening in Gaza,” said Fellipe Lopes, the Portuguese media coordinator of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition on board the ship, “Handala” during a stopover in Malta.

It will be a trip fraught with danger. Another coalition ship on a similar mission to Gaza in 2010 was stopped and boarded by Israeli troops, and nine activists died. Other ships were similarly stopped and boarded, without loss of life.

“We expect to encounter resistance throughout our mission,” said Australian activist, Michael Coleman.

“Ours is not an illegal activity in any shape or form. The International Court of Justice has asked them to grant unfettered access to aid into Gaza and I implore them to let us and other aids through immediately,” he said.

The “Handala” was visited in Malta by 78-year-old retired US Army Colonel and diplomat, Ann Wright, who was on board another coalition ship boarded by Israeli troops in 2010, in the incident in which nine activists died.

“These people are very brave, because we don’t know what’s going to happen. If the Israelis stop them, we know it’ll be brutal,” Wright said.

The brightly colored “Handala” carries activists from Italy, France, Norway, Australia, the Netherlands, Syria and a number of Palestinians. It has made several port calls around Scandinavia and the Mediterranean to raise awareness about the situation in Gaza.

Its hull carries slogans reading: “Free Palestine”, “Gaza you are not alone” and “Stop the Genocide”, while its humanitarian aid cargo consists mostly of medicines.

The trip along the Eastern Mediterranean to Gaza will take a week but organizers said they might stop over in another harbor on the way.

NOTE: The flotilla movement was begun by activists Greta Berlin, Paul Larudee and associates.

Israeli leaders strategize about how to dodge ICC arrest warrants

Andalou Agency reports: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with other officials Thursday to discuss efforts by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue arrest warrants against them.

“The Attorney General reiterated her position regarding the establishment of a State Commission of Inquiry to examine the humanitarian situation in Gaza even though, according to the view of the Attorney General herself, there is no certainty that establishing this commission would lead to the cancellation of the request to issue the warrants,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement.

‘From the river to the sea’: six words that are testing freedom of speech in Germany

The Guardian reports: Is it legal to say the words “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” in Germany? The answer appears to be yes: you can shout them from the rooftops in German, English, Arabic or Hebrew, so long as a court accepts that you are not doing so to indicate support for Hamas or its murderous assault of 7 October.

This distinction came to bear on the activist Ava Moayeri last week, when she was convicted of “condoning a crime” for leading a chant of the slogan at a Berlin rally on 11 October. If the speaker of the phrase is understood to mean, for instance, that they support the peaceful liberation of Palestinians, then the utterance would be protected.

But the presiding judge, Birgit Balzer, didn’t think that was possible in this case, citing the date of the protest in her decision. Moayeri is expected to challenge the verdict in a higher court.

The slogan has come to symbolize a rift running through German society amid Israel’s war in Gaza. For some people, the expression is implicitly genocidal, especially because of its long history of use by Hamas and other terrorist organizations. The judge reportedly said that it was clear to her that it “denied the right of the state of Israel to exist”, while Germany’s interior minister, Nancy Faeser, has declared it to be a Hamas slogan.

Student protesters at UC Irvine were suspended with no chance to defend themselves. Will courts return them to campus?

The Intercept reports: Amid the brutal police crackdowns at more than 100 campus protests against the war in Gaza the spring, one university in California stood out for its especially harsh treatment of student protesters. The school effectively eliminated any due process for the students by suspending them without making specific allegations of misconduct or allowing the students to respond to vague charges.

Last month, student protesters at University of California, Irvine sued the school regents and chancellor for suspending them without any notice or a chance to present evidence in their defense. On Tuesday, plaintiffs in the suit filed a motion to ask the Superior Court of California to step in.

The five students are asking the court to force the school to halt the suspensions and allow students to resume their studies, register for fall classes, go back to campus jobs, and regain access to campus housing.

More than 3,000 people were arrested during brutal police crackdowns on campus protests this year, according to a protest tracker developed by The Appeal. UCI is still an outlier — it’s one of the only schools in the country that issued interim suspensions banning students from campus before they had a chance to respond. The university’s approach was, a representative for the students said, unprecedented.

‘Not Another Bomb’ to Israel Demand Grows Ahead of Democratic Convention

Common Dreams reports: Leading up to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next week, calls for the U.S. government to stop arming Israel’s devastating assault on the Gaza Strip—widely denounced around the world as genocide—continued to mount on Friday.

“We join the millions of people who’ve taken action the last 10 months, taxpayers who don’t want to pay for genocide and are demanding an immediate arms embargo on Israel,” U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) executive director Ahmad Abuznaid said in a statement Friday.

“We know that politicians won’t change their unjust policies until it’s in their own self-interest to do so,” he continued. “We must double down on our demands ahead of the DNC, where we’ll be marching in the streets for the liberation of all.”

Pro-Palestine protests in Chicago are set to start Sunday, a day before the DNC officially begins. They will continue throughout the week, according to a schedule shared Friday by the Chicago Sun-Times. The March on the DNC is planned for Monday afternoon.

New Poll Suggests Gaza Ceasefire and Arms Embargo Would Help Dems with Swing State Voters

A new poll, just released Wednesday by YouGov and the Institute for Mideast Understanding (IMEU) showed that in three key battleground states, “About a quarter of those surveyed across these states say the violence in Gaza will sway how they vote,” and that “60% or more disapprove of more weapons to Israel.”

Even more stunning, the number of Democratic and Independent voters who would be less likely to vote for Harris if she vowed to stop arming Israel is minuscule. In Pennsylvania, only 7% said they would be less likely to vote for Harris if she pledged to stop sending weapons to Israel; in both Arizona and Georgia, that figure was just 5%.

The gaps are huge. In those same states, the numbers saying they would be more likely to vote for Harris if she pledged to stop arming Israel were 34% in Pennsylvania, 39% in Georgia, and 35% in Arizona. The rest said it wouldn’t affect their vote.

“This polling clearly shows that if the Democrats want Vice President Harris to be the strongest nominee possible going into November, then they should be demanding that President Biden stop the flow of weapons to Israel and secure a permanent ceasefire immediately,” IMEU Policy Project Executive Director Margaret DeReus said in a statement. “Not only are these policies popular, but they actually move voters from the ‘undecided’ or ‘not voting’ column and into the Democrats’ column in the states Democrats will need to win.”

It is clear that the idea that forcing Israel into a ceasefire by withholding weapons would be beneficial to Harris, and all the more so if Israel then stops its genocide, and Iran and the rest of the Axis of Resistance stand down, as has been promised, and is the overwhelmingly likely result.

Harris leads Trump in Pennsylvania by 2.1%, Arizona by 0.7%, and Georgia by 0.1%, according to the data-driven news site FiveThirtyEight’s polling averages as of Aug. 14.

Senior diplomat resigns over UK’s complicity in ‘war crimes’ in Gaza

Middle East Monitor reports: A senior British diplomat has resigned from the Foreign Office over the UK’s continued arms sales to Israel, which he said have “no justification”.

Mark Smith, the head of Africa Programmes and Expertise Department and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, submitted a resignation letter entitled “FCDO complicity in War Crimes” reports revealed yesterday.

“It is with sadness that I resign after a long career in the diplomatic service,” he wrote, “however I can no longer carry out my duties in the knowledge that this Department may be complicit in War Crimes. ”

“Each day we witness clear and unquestionable examples of War Crimes and breaches of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza perpetrated by the State of Israel,” he continued.

He went on to highlight how “senior members of the Israeli government and militar have expressed open genocidal intent, Isralei soldiers take videos, deliberately burning destroying, and looting civilian property and openly admit to the rape and torture of prisoners.”

Melbourne orchestra leaders voted out for removing pianist over Gaza tribute

Middle East Eye reports: Musicians at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) have passed a vote of no confidence in its board after it cancelled a show by a pianist who had dedicated a performance to Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

In a letter to the management, the musicians said, “We believe it is the duty of senior management to lead and manage in accordance with the MSO’s values and behaviors, however, it has become apparent that these values no longer appear to be aligned with those of the orchestra and staff.”

On Sunday, British-Australian pianist Jayson Gillham premiered a five-minute piece called Witness, which he performed after a brief comment on Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza, which he referred to as a war crime.

Following the concert, MSO announced that it had cancelled Gillham’s upcoming performance, which was to take place on Thursday, due to “a series of introductory remarks” he made.

It said that it had sought “independent security advice” following Sunday’s concert, and in light of the advice, “had no option but to cancel” Gillham’s next show.

AUSTRALIAN FINANCIAL REVIEW ADDS: After a litany of protest from its staff, some subscribers and members of the public, the MSO had by Thursday relented and released a statement admitting its cancellation of Gillham had been “an error”, and that it was working to program a new concert with him shortly.

The backdown has in turn upset some Jewish stakeholders.

“The MSO got it right the first time,” said the co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, Peter Wertheim.

Jayson Gillham has been involved in the Palestinian issue in the past.

“Blue Vote Red Line” movement continues to gather signatures

The “Blue Vote Red Line” movement seeks to collect 1 million voters to pledge a vote for the Democratic ticket if, and only if, it commits to 1) enforce an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as ordered by the World Court and UN Security Council Resolution 2735 or 2) end all military aid to Israel.

Their goal is to “force the Democratic Party to listen to its voters and not just its donors. The pledge can be viewed and signed here.

    STATISTICS OCTOBER 7 – AUGUST 16:

Palestinian death toll from October 7 – August 16: at least 40,706* (40,074 in Gaza* – 11,445 women (30%), 16,251 children as of July 22. [The Ministry’s figures have been contested by the Israeli authorities, although they have been accepted as accurate by Israeli intelligence services, the UN, and WHO. These data are supported by independent analyses, comparing changes in the number of deaths of UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) staff with those reported by the Ministry, which found claims of data fabrication implausible.]

This is expected to be a significant undercount since thousands of those killed have yet to be identified – and at least 632 in the West Bank (~145 children). This does not include an estimated 10,000 more still buried under rubble (4,900 women and children). Euro-Med Monitor reports 46,848 Palestinian deaths.

Lancet: “Applying a conservative estimate of four indirect deaths per one direct death9 to the 37,396 deaths reported, it is not implausible to estimate that up to 186 000 or even more deaths could be attributable to the current conflict in Gaza.

Ralph Nader earlier estimated 200,000 Palestinians may have been killed in Gaza.

At least 45 Palestinians have died in Israeli prisons (27 from Gaza, 18 from West Bank).
At least 41 Palestinians have died due to malnutrition**.
About 1.9 million of Gaza’s 2.3 million population are currently displaced.
Almost 500,000 Gazans are currently experiencing catastrophic levels of food insecurity.
Palestinian injuries from October 7 – August 16: at least 97,957 (including at least 92,537 in Gaza and 5,420 in the West Bank, including 830 children). [It remains unknown how man Americans are among the casualties in Gaza.]

Reported Israeli death toll from October 7 – August 16: ~1,454 (~1,139 on October 7, 2023, of which ~32 were Americans, and ~36 were children); 290*** military forces since the ground invasion began in Gaza; 25 military and civilians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Israel) and~10,000 injured.

NOTE: It is unknown at this time how many of the deaths and injuries in Israel on October 7 were caused by Israeli soldiers.

*Previously, IAK did not include 471 Gazans killed in the Al Ahli hospital blast since the source of the projectile was being disputed. However, given that much evidence points to Israel as the culprit, Israel had previously bombed the hospital and has attacked many others, Israel is prohibiting outside experts from investigating the scene, and since the UN and other agencies are including the deaths from the attack in their cumulative totals, if Americans knew is now also doing so.

**Euro-Med Monitor reports that Gaza’s elderly are dying at an alarmingly high rate. The majority die at home and are buried either close to their residences or in makeshift graves dispersed across the Strip. There are currently more than 140 such cemeteries. Additionally, according to Euromed, thousands have died from starvation, malnourishment, and inadequate medical care; these are considered indirect victims as they were not registered in hospitals.

***Approximately ten of the deaths listed above were Israeli soldiers killed by Hezbollah in fighting at the Israel-Lebanon border. The figure does not include the reportedly 41 Israeli soldiers – nearly 16% of the total Israeli military deaths – killed due to friendly fire in Gaza and other military-related accidents.

† For most of the conflict, women and children accounted for about 70% of deaths in Gaza, with children making up a little over 40% of those killed, according to official statistics.

Gaza records first polio case as UN calls for truce to tackle virus Al Jazeera reports: The Health Ministry in Gaza has said that it detected the first polio case in the besieged enclave, hours after United Nations officials called for a pause in the fighting to enable a vaccination campaign for children against the virus. “But in any case, a polio pause is a must.” (Read the full article here.) But the presiding judge, Birgit Balzer, didn’t think that was possible in this case, citing the date of the protest in her decision. (Read the full article here.) Are these people Hamas? They will continue throughout the week, according to a schedule shared Friday by the Chicago Sun-Times. The March on the DNC is planned for Monday afternoon. (Read the full article here.) In Pennsylvania, only 7% said they would be less likely to vote for Harris if she pledged to stop sending weapons to Israel; in both Arizona and Georgia, that figure was just 5%. “Not only are these policies popular, but they actually move voters from the ‘undecided’ or ‘not voting’ column and into the Democrats’ column in the states Democrats will need to win.” It is clear that the idea that forcing Israel into a ceasefire by withholding weapons would be beneficial to Harris, and all the more so if Israel then stops its genocide, and Iran and the rest of the Axis of Resistance stand down, as has been promised, and is the overwhelmingly likely result. Harris leads Trump in Pennsylvania by 2.1%, Arizona by 0.7%, and Georgia by 0.1%, according to the data-driven news site FiveThirtyEight’s polling averages as of Aug. 14. ” “Each day we witness clear and unquestionable examples of War Crimes and breaches of International Humanitarian Law in Gaza perpetrated by the State of Israel,” he continued. He went on to highlight how “senior members of the Israeli government and militar have expressed open genocidal intent, Isralei soldiers take videos, deliberately burning destroying, and looting civilian property and openly admit to the rape and torture of prisoners.” Melbourne orchestra leaders voted out for removing pianist over Gaza tribute Middle East Eye reports: Musicians at the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) have passed a vote of no confidence in its board after it cancelled a show by a pianist who had dedicated a performance to Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli forces in Gaza. In a letter to the management, the musicians said, “We believe it is the duty of senior management to lead and manage in accordance with the MSO’s values and behaviors, however, it has become apparent that these values no longer appear to be aligned with those of the orchestra and staff.” On Sunday, British-Australian pianist Jayson Gillham premiered a five-minute piece called Witness, which he performed after a brief comment on Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza, which he referred to as a war crime. “Blue Vote Red Line” movement continues to gather signatures The “Blue Vote Red Line” movement seeks to collect 1 million voters to pledge a vote for the Democratic ticket if, and only if, it commits to 1) enforce an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as ordered by the World Court and UN Security Council Resolution 2735 or 2) end all military aid to Israel. Their goal is to “force the Democratic Party to listen to its voters and not just its donors. The pledge can be viewed and signed here. MORE NEWS: IMEMC Daily Reports. FEWS NTET reports: The amount of humanitarian food supplies entering Gaza through crossings in the south were at their lowest levels in July since Israel’s war on the enclave began.

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) said that only 724 humanitarian trucks with food or mixed items entered through the Karem Abu Salem crossing in the entire month of July. They carried roughly 5,035 to 5,566 metric tonnes of supplies.

A further 54,764 to 60,529 metric tonnes of food supplies carried on commercial trucks also entered through the crossing, but the network said that increased “commercial cargo entry into Gaza may not necessarily translate to improved food availability and access within Gaza, particularly given low household purchasing power”.

RECOMMENDED READING: This is the truth about “there is no famine in Gaza”

NOTE: Hundreds of aid trucks are reportedly waiting and spoiling at the southern border of Gaza, where Israel has made it extremely difficult to pass, employing complicated and arbitrary procedures.

Israel has also attacked food aid convoys and those who accompanied them.

In mid-March, Israel promised to “flood” Gaza with aid, but has failed to do so.

Israel has killed 2,100 babies under two in Gaza: Rights monitor

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reports that out of nearly 17,000 Palestinian children killed by Israel in the Gaza Strip since October 7, about 2,100 were babies under the age of two.

“The number of Palestinian children – whether infants or children in general – killed by the Israeli army is horrifying, and the rate of their killing is unprecedented in the history of modern wars,” says the Geneva-based organization.

“It also represents a dangerous trend based on the dehumanization of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Israel’s military targets Palestinians and their children daily, methodically, and widely in the most heinous and brutal ways possible, and virtually without pause for 10 consecutive months.”

Israel shoots dead 2 firefighters in Gaza

Middle East Monitor reports: Two civil defense crew members were shot dead today by Israeli occupation forces in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

The General Directorate of Civil Defence confirmed the death of firefighter Suhaib Abu Taqiya and Hussein Abu Jamous after they were shot while carrying out their work in Rafah.

Their deaths bring to 82 the number of civil defense crew members who have been killed since the outbreak of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, the directorate added.

Since the beginning of the Israeli war of genocide, the IOF has targeted dozens of civil defense and ambulance crew members while they were providing services to displaced Palestinians in addition to destroying civil defense facilities and vehicles to prevent rescue and evacuation efforts.

Israel’s intensifying attacks on Gaza schools

Al Jazeera reports: Israel has hit more than 500 of Gaza’s 564 schools in the past 10 months. Within a 10-day period in August, Israeli forces struck five schools in Gaza City, killing more than 179 people and injuring scores more.

Last week, more than 100 people were killed after Israel hit a school in Gaza City sheltering displaced Palestinians. The UN accused Israel of intensifying attacks on schools.

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, schools are considered civilian objects and should be protected from attacks.

West Bank: Israeli occupation forces kill five Palestinians in assault on Tubas

WAFA reports: Five Palestinians today were killed during the ongoing Israeli aggression on the city of Tubas and the town of Tamoun, southeast of the city.

Security sources reported that four Palestinians were killed when an Israeli drone bombed a group of young men in the town of Tamoun, southeast of Tubas.

They also said that the occupation forces withheld the bodies of the four young men after killing them.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said that the occupation prevented its crews from reaching the targeted location.

Meanwhile, the fifth Palestinian was killed after Israeli occupation forces besieged his house in the early morning hours in the city of Tubas.

Shocking news in OCHA’s weekly report on the West Bank

Since October 7th, there have been over 100 instances of Palestinian bodies being withheld by Israeli forces.

In the last week, Israeli settlers perpetrated 25 attacks against Palestinians, while Palestinians perpetrated three attacks against settlers. Between 7 October 2023 and 12 August 2024, OCHA recorded around 1,250 attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians, of which around 120 led to Palestinian fatalities and injuries.

On 12 August, Israeli settlers physically assaulted and injured two 15-year-old Palestinian boys near Artas, Bethlehem, attacking them with knives. The settlers assaulted the boys, broke their legs, and urinated on them, then handcuffed the boys and threw them in an open area near Artas. A local resident discovered them and called for an ambulance. The boys were then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

On 7 August, the Israeli Civil Administration along with Israeli forces dismantled and confiscated three donor-funded tents in the Birin herding community, Hebron governorate. As a result, three families comprising 15 people including 6 children were displaced. The tents had been provided by the Palestinian Authority as a response to a previous demolition that took place on 4 July 2024 in the same area.

Between 7 October 2023 and 12 August 2024, Israeli authorities demolished, confiscated, or forced the demolition of 1,380 Palestinian structures across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, displacing more than 3,100 Palestinians, including 1,375 children.

Israeli forces, and in some cases settlers, have killed over 570 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7th, with near total impunity.

Israel approves new West Bank settlement on UNESCO World Heritage Site near Bethlehem

The Cradle reports: The Israeli government on 14 August officially approved municipal boundaries for a new settlement on a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

Jewish supremacist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said his office had “completed its work and published a plan for the new Nahal Heletz settlement in Gush Etzion,” a bloc of settlements south of occupied Jerusalem.

“No anti-Israeli and anti-Zionist decision will stop the development of settlements. We will continue to fight against the dangerous project of creating a Palestinian state by creating facts on the ground. This is my life’s mission, and I will continue it as much as I can,” the Israeli official, who lives in an illegal settlement, said via social media.

All of Israel’s settlements in the West Bank occupied since 1967, are considered illegal under international law, regardless of whether they have planning permission or not.

According to the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now, the intended area of the new settlement was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. “Smotrich continues to promote de facto annexation, disregarding the UNESCO Convention that Israel is a signatory to, and we will all pay the price,” the organization said in a statement, calling the move by the Civil Administration a “wholesale attack” on an area “renowned for its ancient terraces and sophisticated irrigation systems, evidence of thousands of years of human activity.”

“These actions are not only fragmenting Palestinian space and depriving large communities of their natural and cultural heritage, but they also pose an imminent threat to an area considered to be of the highest cultural value to humanity,” Peace Now added.

The Times of Israel reports: “The new settlement will be built on land it says belongs to Battir, home to ancient hillside agricultural terraces that have been designated a world heritage site by UNESCO.”

NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. As the ICJ ruling confirms, Israeli settlements and settlers on Palestinian land are a violation of international law, and considered by many Palestinians to be the main barrier to any lasting peace agreement.

Some settler groups, moreover, have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces.

Map: Israel attacked ‘nearly every inch of Gaza with US-made bombs’

Jewish Voice for Peace, a US-based advocacy group, has made a map of the more than 70,000 bombs that Israel has dropped on the Gaza Strip since October 7 using UN satellite data.

“With the US as its collaborator, the Israeli military is carrying out the goal of Zionism: the complete and total ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land,” the group says.

“The US isn’t just allowing the Israeli government to commit a genocide, it’s actively assisting it. It’s well past time for a weapons embargo. We demand a complete end to US funding, arming, and backing of the state of Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.”

She wrote an op-ed criticizing Biden on Gaza. The Justice Department accused her of breaking the law.

Emma West Rasmus wrote in The Hill: I used to see myself as part of the future of the Democratic Party, but I just got back from Palestine, and I will now work to ensure it never wins again.” (photo)
The Intercept reports (excerpt): In March, Justice Department employee Emma West Rasmus wrote an [extremely powerful, personalized] op-ed criticizing the Biden administration over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

he next business day, she was accused by senior Justice Department attorneys and ethics officials of violating the Hatch Act. The Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from using their “official authority” to engage in certain political activity, especially advocating for or against a particular candidate or political party.

Five months later, however, the Office of Special Counsel, which investigates Hatch Act violations, determined there was no Hatch Act violation in the first place.

“Although you engaged in political activity while referencing that you work for the federal government in the op-ed, and specifically the Department of Justice in the byline, these references do not constitute a use of official authority rising to the level of a Hatch Act violation,” reads an August 8 determination letter from OSC.

West Rasmus, who still works for the Justice Department, says this decision lifted a huge weight off her shoulders, but that the investigation itself “absolutely had a chilling effect” on her and other federal employees trying to galvanize internal dissent on Gaza policy.

“I always felt like putting the op-ed out there in the way that I did was worth the risk,” she said. “That speaks to how urgently I and other federal employees feel about the need to take actions that we wouldn’t otherwise take.”

Columbia University president Minouche Shafik resigns in wake of Gaza protests

Al Jazeera reports: Minouche Shafik, the president of Columbia University, has announced her resignation after a tumultuous year marked by tensions with staff and students over her handling of campus protests against the Gaza war.

The university announced her departure in a statement on its website on Wednesday.

“This period has taken a considerable toll on my family, as it has for others in our community,” Shafik wrote in a letter to the university’s staff and students. “It has also been a period of turmoil where it has been difficult to overcome divergent views across our community.”

Protests against the Gaza war began on Columbia’s New York City campus in April inspiring similar encampments at other institutions across the United States and beyond.

As the protests gathered momentum, Shafik was summoned to a congressional committee over allegations the university had failed to protect students and staff from rising anti-Semitism.

The next day, she allowed New York City police onto the campus to clear the protests and about 100 people were arrested, triggering outrage from protesters and some academics and calls for her resignation. Tensions rose further at the end of April, when police returned again to campus, arresting some 300 people and removing the encampment.

THE GUARDIAN ADDS: Meanwhile, Elise Stefanik, one of the congressional representatives most critical of Shafik’s handling of reports of antisemitism on campus, wrote: “THREE DOWN, so many to go,” adding “after failing to protect Jewish students and negotiating with pro-Hamas terrorists, this forced resignation is long overdue”.

Sludge reports: Stefanik’s trip to Israel was paid for by the Jewish Policy Center, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit that describes its mission as “educat[ing the American public about Israel, foreign affairs and domestic issues of importance to the Jewish community.” The organization spent nearly $48,000 on the trip, including on business-class airfare tickets for the representative and stays at luxury hotels.

[The Jewish Policy Center has multiple individuals on its board of fellows who have been identified as anti-Muslim hate figures, including Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz.]

This election cycle, the PAC of lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has given $284,000 to Stefanik’s campaign in conduit contributions through April 30, placing her in its top 10 recipients among House Republicans.

New York county signs first mask ban into US law, sparking controversy

The Guardian reports: Nassau county in New York implemented a controversial ban on wearing face coverings in public on Wednesday, in a move criticized by state politicians and civil rights advocates. Opponents of the bill have described it as “a dangerous misuse of the law to score political points and target protesters”, given it was introduced in response to protests against Israel’s war on Gaza.

The Mask Transparency Act, signed into law by Bruce Blakeman, the Republican county executive, makes it a misdemeanor for anyone to wear a facial covering to hide their identity in public.

[Vote Smart reports that Blakeman has been a board member of the American Jewish Congress, which advocates for Israel.]

People who defy the law could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, although there are some exemptions for health or religious reasons.

Susan Gottehrer, the regional director of the Nassau county New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), said after the bill was passed, “Masks protect people who express political opinions that are unpopular. Making anonymous protest illegal chills political action and is ripe for selective enforcement, leading to doxxing, surveillance and retaliation against protesters.”

Melbourne orchestra cancels pianist’s performance after he speaks out on Gaza

Al Jazeera reports: Musician Jayson Gillham was scheduled to perform at Melbourne Town Hall on Thursday, but he was dropped after he discussed the media workers killed in Gaza in a Sunday performance.

“The killing of journalists is a war crime in international law, and it is done in an effort to prevent the documentation and broadcasting of war crimes to the world,” the musician told the audience, adding that Israel has killed more than 100 journalists since October 7.

UPDATE FROM VARIETY: The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra on Thursday tried to extricate itself from controversy caused by its earlier decision to cancel future performances by Australian-British classical pianist Jayson Gillham.

“The MSO acknowledges that an error was made in asking Jayson Gillham to step back from his performance on Thursday 15 August,” it said in a new statement.

Palestinian injuries from October 7 – August 14: at least 97,821 (including at least 92,401 in Gaza and 5,420 in the West Bank, including 830 children). [It remains unknown how man Americans are among the casualties in Gaza.]

Reported Israeli death toll from October 7 – August 14: ~1,486 (~1,139 on October 7, 2023, of which ~32 were Americans, and ~36 were children); 331 military forces since the ground invasion began in Gaza; 16 in the West Bank) and~8,730 injured.

Times of Israel reports: The IDF listed 41 soldiers killed due to friendly fire in Gaza and other military-related accidents – nearly 16%.

NOTE: It is unknown at this time how many of the deaths and injuries in Israel on October 7 were caused by Israeli soldiers.

*Previously, IAK did not include 471 Gazans killed in the Al Ahli hospital blast since the source of the projectile was being disputed. However, given that much evidence points to Israel as the culprit, Israel had previously bombed the hospital and has attacked many others, Israel is prohibiting outside experts from investigating the scene, and since the UN and other agencies are including the deaths from the attack in their cumulative totals, if Americans knew is now also doing so.**

Euro-Med Monitor reports that Gaza’s elderly are dying at an alarmingly high rate.

† For most of the conflict, women and children accounted for about 70% of deaths in Gaza, with children making up a little over 40% of those killed, according to official statistics.

Official Gaza death toll passes 40,000; over 92,000 injured – Day 312 [email protected] August 15, 2024 genocide, hatch act, humanitarian aid, israel attacks on schools, israeli settlement, mask ban, minouche shafik, US made weapons, West Bank FEWS NTET reports: The amount of humanitarian food supplies entering Gaza through crossings in the south were at their lowest levels in July since Israel’s war on the enclave began. RECOMMENDED READING: This is the truth about “there is no famine in Gaza” NOTE: Hundreds of aid trucks are reportedly waiting and spoiling at the southern border of Gaza, where Israel has made it extremely difficult to pass, employing complicated and arbitrary procedures. Israel has also attacked food aid convoys and those who accompanied them. In mid-March, Israel promised to “flood” Gaza with aid, but has failed to do so. Israel has killed 2,100 babies under two in Gaza: Rights monitor The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor reports that out of nearly 17,000 Palestinian children killed by Israel in the Gaza Strip since October 7, about 2,100 were babies under the age of two. Israel’s military targets Palestinians and their children daily, methodically, and widely in the most heinous and brutal ways possible, and virtually without pause for 10 consecutive months.” Palestinian triplets with their mother flee following the Israeli army’s attacks on Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Gaza on March 21, 2024 [Ashraf Amra/Anadolu Agency] Palestinian triplets with their mother flee following the Israeli army’s attacks on Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Gaza on March 21, 2024 [Ashraf Amra/Anadolu Agency] (photo) Israel shoots dead 2 firefighters in Gaza Middle East Monitor reports: Two civil defense crew members were shot dead today by Israeli occupation forces in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip. West Bank: Israeli occupation forces kill five Palestinians in assault on Tubas WAFA reports: Five Palestinians today were killed during the ongoing Israeli aggression on the city of Tubas and the town of Tamoun, southeast of the city. Israeli army vehicles near Tubas, occupied West Bank Israeli army vehicles near Tubas, occupied West Bank (screengrab) Shocking news in OCHA’s weekly report on the West Bank Since October 7th, there have been over 100 instances of Palestinian bodies being withheld by Israeli forces. Israeli forces, and in some cases settlers, have killed over 600 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7th, with near total impunity. (photo) Israel approves new West Bank settlement on UNESCO World Heritage Site near Bethlehem The Cradle reports: The Israeli government on 14 August officially approved municipal boundaries for a new settlement on a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank. “Smotrich continues to promote de facto annexation, disregarding the UNESCO Convention that Israel is a signatory to, and we will all pay the price,” the organization said in a statement, calling the move by the Civil Administration a “wholesale attack” on an area “renowned for its ancient terraces and sophisticated irrigation systems, evidence of thousands of years of human activity.” “These actions are not only fragmenting Palestinian space and depriving large communities of their natural and cultural heritage, but they also pose an imminent threat to an area considered to be of the highest cultural value to humanity,” Peace Now added. The Times of Israel reports: “The new settlement will be built on land it says belongs to Battir, home to ancient hillside agricultural terraces that have been designated a world heritage site by UNESCO.” NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Map: Israel attacked ‘nearly every inch of Gaza with US-made bombs’ Jewish Voice for Peace, a US-based advocacy group, has made a map of the more than 70,000 bombs that Israel has dropped on the Gaza Strip since October 7 using UN satellite data. We demand a complete end to US funding, arming, and backing of the state of Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.” She wrote an op-ed criticizing Biden on Gaza. The Justice Department accused her of breaking the law. Emma West Rasmus wrote in The Hill: I used to see myself as part of the future of the Democratic Party, but I just got back from Palestine, and I will now work to ensure it never wins again.” (photo) The Intercept reports (excerpt): In March, Justice Department employee Emma West Rasmus wrote an [extremely powerful, personalized] op-ed criticizing the Biden administration over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. he next business day, she was accused by senior Justice Department attorneys and ethics officials of violating the Hatch Act. “That speaks to how urgently I and other federal employees feel about the need to take actions that we wouldn’t otherwise take.” (Read the full article here.) Columbia University president Minouche Shafik resigns in wake of Gaza protests Al Jazeera reports: Minouche Shafik, the president of Columbia University, has announced her resignation after a tumultuous year marked by tensions with staff and students over her handling of campus protests against the Gaza war. The university announced her departure in a statement on its website on Wednesday. “This period has taken a considerable toll on my family, as it has for others in our community,” Shafik wrote in a letter to the university’s staff and students. “It has also been a period of turmoil where it has been difficult to overcome divergent views across our community.” Protests against the Gaza war began on Columbia’s New York City campus in April inspiring similar encampments at other institutions across the United States and beyond. [The Jewish Policy Center has multiple individuals on its board of fellows who have been identified as anti-Muslim hate figures, including Daniel Pipes and David Horowitz.] This election cycle, the PAC of lobbying group the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) has given $284,000 to Stefanik’s campaign in conduit contributions through April 30, placing her in its top 10 recipients among House Republicans. New York county signs first mask ban into US law, sparking controversy Bruce Blakeman hosts a number of rabbis for a mezuzah instalation at his new office ahead of his inauguration as Nassau County’s first Jewish County Executive on Dec. 31, 2021. The Forward reports: “Blakeman situated himself at the right on issues related to Israel.” (photo) The Guardian reports: Nassau county in New York implemented a controversial ban on wearing face coverings in public on Wednesday, in a move criticized by state politicians and civil rights advocates. [Vote Smart reports that Blakeman has been a board member of the American Jewish Congress, which advocates for Israel.] People who defy the law could be sentenced to up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, although there are some exemptions for health or religious reasons. Susan Gottehrer, the regional director of the Nassau county New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), said after the bill was passed, “Masks protect people who express political opinions that are unpopular. Making anonymous protest illegal chills political action and is ripe for selective enforcement, leading to doxxing, surveillance and retaliation against protesters.” Columbia students protest in support of Palestine on campus on Oct. 12. • Netanyahu and Human Sacrifices in Occupied Palestine and America
What Should Be the Fate of the Genocider-in-Chief?

    Anthony James Hall

The drama unfolding in Gaza, the West Bank, and more generally in West Asia is announcing a new phase in the fall of Western Civilization as we have known it. At the core of the drama is a very public ceremony of human sacrifice in the joint US-Israeli ritual to depopulate Gaza and rid the West Bank of its native Palestinians.

The conflict is widening geographically, religiously, and ideologically. US universities are becoming major sites of the intensifying turmoil. These places are meant to be devoted to higher learning, open debate and critical thinking. But those ideals are fast giving way to assaults on very promising surges of free expression.

Attempts are underway to wrestle to the ground the outbursts of liberated articulation. The quest to silence free speech is being done in the name of quelling so-called anti-Semitism. The ironies are great when the real victims of anti-Semitism are the Semitic Arab Palestinians being injured and eliminated in the ruthless onslaughts driving the campus disruptions. The resulting divide is putting influential Jewish people on both sides of the red lines cutting straight through the complex apparatus of higher education.

While faculty members are becoming increasingly involved, the centre of gravity in the protests so far are the mobilizing networks of students that are aligning themselves against the many-faceted genocide underway in Gaza for half a year.

The Genocider-In-Chief, Benjamin Netanyahu, seems intent on throwing gasoline on the campus turmoil in the cause of sparking full-fledged civil war. Its amazing to behold the severity of the scolding rhetoric coming from this man who has made himself the champion of the most obscene case of mass murder in the twenty-first century.

Netanyahu’s defamatory clichés take Zionist accusations of anti-Semitism to new extremes of overheated polemics. Its almost as if Netanyahu is intent on becoming a caricature of himself. In Netanyahu’s deformed worldview, anyone is a terrorist who questions his blood-thirsty crusade aimed at violently depopulating Occupied Palestine of its native Palestinians.

The leader of the barbaric massacre of Palestinian refugees in Gaza, claims that anyone who empathizes with the plight of Netanyahu’s victims is “intent on killing Jews where ever they are.”

Netanyahu’s has become so set in his ways of presenting the Gazan genocide as a noble crusade, that he seems intent on widening his blood lust for human sacrifice to include some of the most committed and principled of American’s rising generation of university students.

Like the reprehensible web site, Canary mission, Netanyahu’s goal seems to be to destroy the life chances of young people by assigning them to blacklists meant to deny them career opportunities.

Is Netanyahu also aiming to set in motion the creation of concentration camps or worse for those who refuse to fall in line with the bigotry driving his genocidal schemes of ethnic elimination?

Netanyahu’s ruthless war against the most free-thinking flower of youth is aimed at sabotaging higher education by enlisting its top administrators into a campaign to eviscerate academic freedom. Without free and open debate, serious universities cannot rise to a high standard beyond the level of indoctrination, enforced sloganeering, and institutionalized cronyism. The sacrifice of human potential for partisan advantage cannot end well. Human sacrifice is taking many forms.

Netanyahu stands at the head of a genocidal project that is embraced and advanced by many Jewish Israelis in the Armed Forces, the Knesset, the media, and the population at large. The backing also encompasses the cultish clique of puppet governors made to appear as if they are in charge of what are, in fact, hollowed-out hulks of the former Western Democracies. Some of the human agents of Zionism’s remote-controlled governance include Joe Biden, Antony Blinken, Rishi Sunak, Olaf Scholz, Ursula Von Leyen, Justin Trudeau, and Emmanuel Macron.

    Genocider-In-Chief

There can be no doubt, however, that Benjamin Netanyahu deserves the title Genocider-In-Chief. I can think of no other figure, not even during WWII, who has pushed ahead the many-faceted genocidal elimination of a people so zealously, so publicly, and so self-righteously. In spite of all the demonstrations calling for his resignation, it has become clear that most Jewish Israelis have few qualms about going along with what many people throughout the world see as the Netanyahu government’s obvious violations of the Genocide Convention.

The genocidal project currently underway has become a primal national project of the Jewish polity. For now, the mass murder is aimed at the Palestinian inhabitants of Gaza and the West Bank. But who can doubt that other Palestinians who are citizens of Israel proper, will be the next targets of ethnic elimination, a concept that has grabbed the fancy of Jewish public opinion in Israel.

By Israel proper, I mean the part of Israel outlined for a Jewish state by the United Nations’ Resolution 181, not the portion of Palestine set aside by the UN in 1947 for a new Arab state. The Arab state was to include Gaza and the West Bank which were illegally seized through Israeli military conquest in 1967. About 20% of the citizens in Israel proper, are Palestinian. The present legal status of the Israeli citizens who are ethnic Palestinians has been made to seem increasingly fragile and problematic especially over the course of recent months.

It is well know that Netanyahu has been caught in the grips of legal woes stemming from the kind of petty corruption that the Israeli judiciary can handle even as its members consistently disregard the international laws violated in ways that are woven into Israel’s constitutional fabric. One would think that Netanyahu’s domestic legal problems would be small compared to those created by the Israeli politician’s leading role in the most high-profile case of genocidal mass murder committed in the twenty-first century.

But no. That is not the case. The intervention of the International Court of Justice in the Gaza debacle has yet to put any visible checks at all on Netanyahu’s massacre that seems targeted especially at women and children. In fact after the World Court’s ruling, the pace and scope of the US-Israel genocide seemed to grow.

The conflict unfolding in Gaza is not a war, a word that should be reserved for the type of conflict involving clashes of the armed forces of two or more national governments. The invasion of Gaza by the Israeli Armed Forces, an invasion backed up by the full military might of the United States, is a massacre pointed at people who for three generations have been classified in international law as stateless refugees even as they continue to reside in their own native lands.

Netanyahu claims the “war” is to “eradicate Hamas.” Hamas is the organization whose fighters on October 7, 2023, broke out of the walled Gaza prison to apprehend in disputed circumstances the Israeli captives presently described in the media as “hostages.”

As we shall see, Hamas is largely a legal and political creation of the Israel government. Nevertheless, Hamas continues to command much loyalty from its Gazan constituents. Who else do the Gazans have to help them in the here and now amidst the genocidal circumstances engulfing them?

The Apparatus of International Law is More Theatrical Than Substantial

Even with the limited weaponry at their disposal, the Hamas fighters have been able to mount a resolute self-defence of their own stateless people. The incarcerated condition of the two million Palestinians in Gaza stands as a telling embodiment of the inconsistencies that reside at the core of the system of international law put in place by World War II’s victors.

While this system may look on the surface as reasonable and viable, it is not what it seems. The juridical element of the international system is more theatrical than substantial in reality. The International Criminal Court is a telling example of the base biases, prejudices and corruption that prevail in some institutional components of international law.

The ICC’s Chief Prosecutor, Karim Kahn, has been more or less inert in the face of the elaborate crime spree that is integral to the Gazan Genocide. On the other hand, Kahn was quick to charge Vladimir Putin with several trumped-up charges for war crimes in the Ukrainian debacle. By his inaction in responding with substantial investigations and charges to the many crimes permeating the Gazan Genocide, Kahn should face charges for his own complicity in genocide.

    https://theintercept.com/2023/05/04/international-criminal-court-karim-khan/

The genocide currently under way in Gaza emerges from the internal contradictions embedded in the apparatus for arbitrating and enforcing international law. This system was purposely set up after WWII to create the fiction that the world is to be run on the basis of due process rooted in the rule of law.

One of the weak points in this system is the lack of a coherent mechanism for enforcing international criminal law, including the Genocide Convention. This absence of a reliable means for enforcing international law is not inadvertent. It was purposely built into the system as a means of protecting the powerful from being held accountable and punished for their crimes.

The theatricality of the international system is meant to disguise the reality that enormous latitude has been afforded to the inheritors of wealth and power, both private and institutional, to further expand their fortunes and influence. A primary illustration of the problem lies in the impunity from being charged and punished for violations of international criminal law enjoyed by those in the upper branches of the US and Israeli governments.

The Zionist capture and protection of Chosenite Judaism epitomizes the institutionalized character of inequality before the law. Alistar Crooke refers to the basis of this phenomenon as “the Zionist project of Jewish special rights.”

    https://www.unz.com/article/will-zionism-self-destruct/

The post-WWII fiction of universal human rights and equality before the law provides cover for the royalty of acquired wealth along with the political clout that goes with it. These upper-echelon plutocrats and their agents are often exempted from the prohibitions and punishments of law.

From this place of impunity, the Chosenites from many backgrounds can readily engage in the most expensive and corrupt forms of lawfare. They do so even as they retain their licenses to rob, kill and exploit by means of the rigged systems for the apportionment of assets, liabilities and political clout.

Benjamin Netanyahu understands as well as anyone on earth the disjuncture between the appearance and the reality of the international system. This Israeli-American figure has epitomized and exploited the internal contradictions with gusto. This experience has led him to the strange culmination of a political career that has made him the twenty-first century’s unparalleled genocidaire extraordinaire.

One would think that Netanyahu’s role as the primary crime boss in the most gruesome mass murder of the twenty-first century would ensnare him in legal troubles far more serious than those attending the corruption convictions he is facing in Israel. So far, however, that appears not to be the case.

By his actions Netanyahu seems to be indicating that, for him, the domestic corruption convictions he is under are more menacing than the early stages of the charges for the international crime of genocide being pressed against the country he leads.

Apparently Netanyahu and the Israeli people around him— even those who regularly declare their hatred of him— have plenty of experience to reassure themselves that they are above the law. They seem to be assuming they will therefore continue to enjoy impunity from the enactments and punishments of international law, including the UN’s Genocide Convention.

Are the assumptions of Netanyahu and those around him correct? What signs are there that anything has changed to replace the theatrics of international law with some actual implementation and enforcement of fundamental legal principles. When it comes to enforcing accountability for the highest levels of blatant criminality, these fundamental principles seem to apply primarily to culprits in defeated, poor and marginalized countries.

Will victors’ justice continue to prevail? Those on the winning side of conflicts are almost never brought to justice for the international crimes they committed on the way to victory. Going back to the era of the Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals, those on the winning side are almost never made to sit on the benches reserved for the accused.

[See Anthony J. Hall, “A National or International Crime? Indian Residential Schools and the Genocide Convention,” Genocide Studies International, Vol. 12, no 1, Spring 2018, pp. 72-91]

In fact Netanyahu has already been ordered by the World Court to cease and desist doing the actions that are creating the perception that the government he leads is conducting a “plausible genocide.” This directive, however, Netanyahu obviously regards as empty of substance until the international community get serious about enforcing the court ruling. Netanyahu obviously holds the ruling of the International Court of Justice in contempt.

Netanyahu continues to face little opposition willing to push against the fiction that he is engaged in a “war” to “eradicate Hamas,” a polity that he played a big role in helping to shape, guide and elevate. Netanyahu continues to exploit the fiction that he is conducting a war against, rather than a massacre of, mostly unarmed, incarcerated stateless refugees, people that the Israeli government has occupied and oppressed for three generations.

Netanyahu continues to stand by his misrepresentation even as he accelerates the campaign to eliminate the surviving Palestinians now cornered in the southern district of the Gaza Strip in and around Rafah.

The Engineering of Outrage to Launch the Campaign to Implement the Final Solution to the Palestinian Question

The overarching trajectory of the genocidal violation contains many crimes within crimes. Some of these crimes are rooted in the fact that the Gazan Genocide is providing a laboratory of life and death for experiments on human subjects.

These crimes include the mass atrocities committed by IDF soldiers in the process of destroying hospitals, in conducting torture and rape, as well as in targeting for murder many dozens of journalists and hundreds of humanitarian aid workers including UN staff. Every day, it seems, new mass graves are being identified providing abundant evidence of various methods of imposing slaughter, sometimes fast and sometimes with agonizing slowness.

    https://www.vox.com/world-politics/24140794/gaza-nasser-hospitals-al-shifa-graves-idf-hamas

The Israeli assault on Gazan infrastructure and all means of sustaining life are integral, for instance, to engineered famine, homelessness, dehydration and plagues. We have been witnessing low-tech and high-tech genocide, the multi-dimensional likes of which have never been planned, implemented, seen, heard, and documented on such a scale.

The crimes extend to the obliteration of universities, schools, museums, recital halls, sports facilities as well as the targeted assassinations of leading figures based in all of the obliterated institutions. The destruction extends to vast arrays of historical treasures including ancient mosques, churches, and public squares that form important parts of the shared cultural and religious inheritances of Palestinian people as well as of humanity as a whole.

Raphael Lemkin was the inventor in 1944 of the term “genocide” and the main draftsman three years later of the Genocide Convention. Lemkin’s emphasized in his work that cultural genocide is a very important element in the process of eliminating distinct peoples from the international community of nations.

What are the children of the world supposed to think as they compare the conditions of kids in Tel Aviv and Gaza? Is Netanyahu to be seen as a heroic warrior or as a thuggish serial killer? Who will, and who should, decide?

Not only has Netanyahu made himself the top General, PR Spin Doctor, and strategist of a bloody interlude of ethnic nationalism gone terribly wrong. He is also the number one suspect in how the events of October 7 (10/7) came to unfold as they did in order to give justification to the quest to finish off the NAKBA (catastrophe), the Arab equivalent of the Hebrew Shoah (Holocaust).

The genocidal NAKBA began in 1948 with the formal initiation of the new Israeli government’s ongoing campaign to uproot, kill, and eject the native population with the goal of de-Palestinianizing the Jewish nation. Some describe the events of 2023-2024 as a surge in the ongoing genocide that began 75 years earlier.

Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud Party have been extremists when it comes to the occupying power’s effort to eliminate Palestinians and to extinguish their legal title to lands and resources. In the current government of Israel, Netanyahu has teamed up with religious fanatics whose anti-Arab obsessions and policies as well as their preoccupation with Jewish supremacism are being well expressed in the current outburst of genocidal mass murder.

As with the mythology created to cover the tracks of the real culprits of 9/11, the events of 10/7 just happened to hand over to the Zionist extremists exactly the conditions of public opinion they required to spring into preplanned military campaigns at a moment’s notice. In both instances, declarations of war were issued within hours before any formal investigation at all had taken place. In both instances elaborate and irreversible actions were implemented asap resulting in initiatives that altered the course of the global history we are presently living through.

As reported by the New York Times, the events of October 7 were fully described in the “Jericho Wall” document circulated a year before the prison break of the Hamas fighters actually happened. This detailed report was passed around among intelligence agencies including those of Israel, the USA, and Great Britain.

    https://www.globalresearch.ca/israel-knew-hamass-attack-plan-more-than-year-ago/5842036

Just as similar intelligence was widely distributed among Deep State spooks before 9/11, there was similar anticipation of the events of 10/7. One might even come to the conclusion that overlapping power networks were behind both false flag events that put Netanyahu and his political cronies at, or near, the centre of the predatory actions.

The events of 9/11 were misrepresented to initiate the so-called Global War on Terror. Similarly the events of 10/7 extended the same demonization of Arabs, but especially of Muslim Palestinians, to dehumanize those on the receiving end of the onslaught by the world’s most massive and aggressive military-industrial-media complex.

As Simplicius sees it, “all indications prove that this has been an internal Israeli plan long in the making, that the events of October 7 were in fact a Pearl Harbor-esque falseflag tasked with generating the needed outrage which would allow the execution of the ‘Final Palestinian Solution.’ ” (For reference, see link to Simplicius’ Subtack article below)

Three months before Oct. 7 Hamas fighters were clearly viewed in Gaza practising for the events about to take place. Officials in neighbouring Egypt knew what to expect and signalled the intelligence to national security specialists in and around Netanyahu’s Office. Apparently Netanyahu refused to take Egyptian President, Abdel El-Sisi’s, telephone call on the subject.

Netanyahu and his Likud predecessors, including Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Shamir, and Ariel Sharon, cooperated very closely with Hamas to achieve several objectives including the paramount goal of keeping the Palestinians divided into separate organizations.

One of their motivations in building up Hamas, a sunni Muslim organization rooted in the Muslim Brotherhood, was to avoid any repeat of the rise of Yasser Arafat and his highly successful secular approach to building up support for the PLO, the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

The weight of evidence points to the distinct possibility that Netanyahu helped arrange the easy breakout out of Hamas from Gaza through the enclosure’s extremely high-tech Wall. Netanyahu was then instrumental in preventing the IDF from responding immediately in order to allow sufficient time for atrocities to take place in front of reporters and photographers. Somehow these media figures just happened to be at the right place at the right time to get their scoops.

    https://www.sott.net/article/485907-News-outlets-deny-claims-they-had-prior-knowledge-of-Hamas-attack-on-Israel

This statement from Danny Danon, Israel’s former Ambassador to the United Nations, can be interpreted as a warning to photojournalists that they will be “eliminated” if they do not keep quiet about their prior knowledge of the events of October 7. Prior knowledge of 10/7 seems to have been widespread as it was during the weeks and months before 9/11.

As Andre Damon concluded on December 2, “These revelations expose the Gaza genocide to be a criminal conspiracy by the Netanyahu regime and its imperialist backers, whose victims include not only 20,000 slaughtered Palestinians, but the Israeli population itself.”

    https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/12/02/klox-d02.html

What would the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu look like if he was charged individually with the international crime of committing genocide as a result of his actions before, during, and after 9/11? What can humanity expect in the future if the individual most deeply implicated in the most hideous and openly performed genocide in recent times can walk away from the crime?

As it now stands, many perpetrators of genocide in Gaza have a sense that they continue to be immune from charges, trials, and punishments for committing the highest level of international crimes on the books. At the frequently-held Zionist galas for schmoozing, networking, fund raising, award presentations and all manner of self-congratulations, the genocidaires of Gaza might as well be taking bows for the massacre of their captives in Gaza.

Human Sacrifice Among Aztecs and in the Settler Colonialism of the Americas and Israel

The US-Israeli role in implementing the current climactic phase of the Gazan Genocide must be considered in a variety of historical contexts including the event memorialized as the holocaust.

The time has passed when anything to do with this subject can simply be taken on faith without discussion and open debate. No longer do the Zionist proponents of the Genocidal State of Israel get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to demanding the acceptance of their preferred interpretations of history.

By politicizing the divine directive in the Torah to massacre the Amalekites, Netanyahu is effectively drawing on the blood lust of the vengeful Yahweh in what Simplicius describes as the current “Eschatological Frenzy.” Back in late October he explained,

“The eschatological fervor of the Palestine crisis is reaching a deafening peak. Officials worldwide are dropping their masks, and inadvertently revealing the Biblical strain of the conflict. At every turn, political figures now soak their proclamations in Biblical reference and allegory. The foremost of which was Netanyahu, who has now invoked an assortment of Biblical prophecies as dogwhistles to stir his people into an eschatological frenzy. Here he not only invokes the prophecy of Isaiah, but frames the conflict as that of “light” versus “darkness” and good versus evil, painting the Palestinians as the Children of Darkness to be vanquished by the Chosen Ones.

The new form of human sacrifice in the killing fields of Gaza is probably more brutal than any similar ritual performed amidst, say, the pyramid structures of the Aztecs as observed by the conquistadors surrounding their leader, Hernán Cortés. This Aztec ritual was frequently highlighted by those seeking to justify the overturning of the Old World of Indigenous peoples in the Western Hemisphere.

Popular lore concerning the Aztecs’ blood sacrifice of humans was used frequently to give justification for the conquest and elimination of indigenous societies regardless of the civilizational achievements in Central America of the Aztec, Mayan and Incan peoples.

Strategically drawn upon was the real or the imagined efforts of some Indigenous peoples to appease the gods through human sacrifices. The aim was rationalize the imperative to create a New World where Native peoples throughout the Americas were subjected to round after round of genocidal elimination and repression.

This pattern, exported especially from the western-moving frontier of the United States to the Israeli frontier of Palestine, has helped create the historical context for the treatment of the Native peoples in Gaza and the West Bank. One of the main paradigms used to explain this process of expansion was the imperial resort to the paradigm of the ascent from savagery to civilization as pictured through the lens of social Darwinism

The anti-imperial characterization of the same process is to characterize it as series of manifestations of “settler colonialism” now on clear global display in Gaza and the West Bank. In the current genocide, the warriors of Jewish Israel seem to be competing with the Spanish conquistadors for pre-eminence in ruthlessness.

At the same time, the agents of the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza and the West Bank are engaged in rituals of human sacrifice far more vicious than that of the Aztecs. As far as I know the Aztecs did not engage in human sacrifice through forced starvation.

Our Descent from Civilization into Barbarism and Savagery

The human sacrifices to Yahweh, the God of Greater Israel, are being sent to their death with the intervention of cutting edge Artificial Intelligence whose murderous aroma smells nothing like Lavender. In the twenty-first century, the fast-changing technologies of our times are more and more coming to rule the conditions of both our lives and our deaths.

The twenty-first century began with a Global War effectively of Terror that continues to engulf us in the culture of militarism as the dominant driving force influencing every aspect of our descent from civilization into barbarism and savagery.

The life-and-death character of changing technologies, mostly all harnessed in the first applications to militarism, is leaping into prominence as the Gazan Genocide gives rise to warring confrontations. These confrontations mostly emanated from longstanding antagonism since 1979 between Iran and Israel.

This process of warring interactions kicked into high gear on April 1 when the government of Israel disregarded diplomatic law and protocol stretching back into classical times.

Israel bombed the Iranian Embassy in Damascus killing 16 people, including several high-ranking officials in the Iranian Armed Forces and in Hezbollah. Several civilians were also killed. In response, Iranian officials explained that the Israeli attack would have to involve a retaliation. It would have to take the form of some sort of attack directly from Iranian territory on Israeli territory. While Israel has attacked Iran repeatedly within Iran, the reverse of this process had until mid-April of 2024 never occurred.

The Iranian attack on Israel came on the night of April 13-14. Many parties were given ample prior warning so that they could prepare for some sort of missile attack. The attack was mounted with the goal of avoiding, if possible, deaths and property damage. That objective was met.

The attack has been viewed from a variety of perspectives. I find most credible the accounts describing three hundred or so drones and cruise missiles used as decoys meant to lure attention away from the primary weapons of attack. The Israeli Air Force and elements of the air forces of the USA, the UK, France, and Jordan shot down the vast majority of drones and cruise missiles.

Seven of the ballistic missiles have been pictured hitting their targets on the runway of the Nevatim Air Base in the Negev desert.

Scott Ritter is one of those who indicates that this penetration of what he calls “the most protected air space in the world” has already transformed key facets of global geopolitics. Ritter has described this interpretation, which is probably not the last word in the subject, to British MP and journalist, George Galloway.

On April 19 Israel attempted a retaliation to hit targets in the Islamic Republic of Iran. In the lead up to the attack many questions were asked about the possible role of the Biden government in pressing the Netanyahu government to hold back from hitting Iran hard.

The quid pro quo, some imagined, would be to give Netanyahu the green light for a major military operation to “eradicate Hamas” in Rafah. It seems that although the US apparently holds the upper hand in terms of supplying the weaponry for the Gazan Genocide, Netanyahu nevertheless dominates in the sometimes mysterious inner dynamics of the deeply integrated Israel-US relationship.

On April 19 an Israeli attack was reported as something of a non-event where Israeli drone-like projectiles were downed by the Iranian armed forces on the way to their targets in the Isfahan area. The governments of both Israel and Iran decided to not comment in any detail on the event.

Then on April 20 came a very brief report from journalist Pepe Escobar presenting a dramatically different version of the events of the prior day. The statement immediately became the subject of intense disagreement and conjecture. Scott Ritter is one of those to condemn Escobar’s statement as containing an impossible juxtaposition of events. The reference to EMP that Escobar refers to, stands for Electro Magnetic Pulse. A nuclear-driven surge of EMP, it was claimed, could fry and disable Iran’s entire electrical system.

    Pepe Escobar
In a statement that was widely reproduced, Escobar reported,

In an effort to explain himself, Escobar engaged in a discussion with Larry Johnson and Ania K.

Even before the Iranian demonstration attack on Israel on the night of April 13-14, key figures in the government of Israel have been distraught about the implications for Zionism of the rising importance of the Islamic Republic of Iran. This rise has accelerated in recent years as Iran’s alliances with Russia, China, the other countries of BRICS as well as of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization continue to coalesce.

Given this background, I can picture how the government of Israel might have pictured the prospect of a retaliation for Iran’s retaliation for the original bombing of the Iranian Embassy in Damascus.

I can picture Netanyahu and the extremists around him thinking about the possibility of crippling Iran with a nuclear strike to generate a EMP surge in order to fry Iran’s electric grid. Speculation, however, is futile at this point. Few of us are in any position to come to any firm conclusions about what did or didn’t happen on the night of April 19 in the skies over Jordan.

Just thinking about such an attack, however, points to the kind of human sacrifices being eliminated and being contemplated in the strange and dangerous times through which we are living. Hasn’t the time come to contemplate locking up the likes of Benjamin Nentanyahu and those to whom he answers. Such efforts are needed to protect much of humanity from becoming human sacrifices to the gods of war, torture, and depravity?

Genocider-In-Chief There can be no doubt, however, that Benjamin Netanyahu deserves the title Genocider-In-Chief. Netanyahu claims the “war” is to “eradicate Hamas.” Hamas is the organization whose fighters on October 7, 2023, broke out of the walled Gaza prison to apprehend in disputed circumstances the Israeli captives presently described in the media as “hostages.” As we shall see, Hamas is largely a legal and political creation of the Israel government. Nevertheless, Hamas continues to command much loyalty from its Gazan constituents. Who else do the Gazans have to help them in the here and now amidst the genocidal circumstances engulfing them? The Apparatus of International Law is More Theatrical Than Substantial Even with the limited weaponry at their disposal, the Hamas fighters have been able to mount a resolute self-defence of their own stateless people. By his inaction in responding with substantial investigations and charges to the many crimes permeating the Gazan Genocide, Kahn should face charges for his own complicity in genocide. https://theintercept.com/2023/05/04/international-criminal-court-karim-khan/ The genocide currently under way in Gaza emerges from the internal contradictions embedded in the apparatus for arbitrating and enforcing international law. Alistar Crooke refers to the basis of this phenomenon as “the Zionist project of Jewish special rights.” https://www.unz.com/article/will-zionism-self-destruct/ The post-WWII fiction of universal human rights and equality before the law provides cover for the royalty of acquired wealth along with the political clout that goes with it. 72-91] In fact Netanyahu has already been ordered by the World Court to cease and desist doing the actions that are creating the perception that the government he leads is conducting a “plausible genocide.” This directive, however, Netanyahu obviously regards as empty of substance until the international community get serious about enforcing the court ruling. The Engineering of Outrage to Launch the Campaign to Implement the Final Solution to the Palestinian Question The overarching trajectory of the genocidal violation contains many crimes within crimes. Every day, it seems, new mass graves are being identified providing abundant evidence of various methods of imposing slaughter, sometimes fast and sometimes with agonizing slowness. https://english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/nearly-400-decomposing-bodies-uncovered-in-khan-younis-nasse?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email https://www.vox.com/world-politics/24140794/gaza-nasser-hospitals-al-shifa-graves-idf-hamas The Israeli assault on Gazan infrastructure and all means of sustaining life are integral, for instance, to engineered famine, homelessness, dehydration and plagues. This detailed report was passed around among intelligence agencies including those of Israel, the USA, and Great Britain. https://www.globalresearch.ca/israel-knew-hamass-attack-plan-more-than-year-ago/5842036 Just as similar intelligence was widely distributed among Deep State spooks before 9/11, there was similar anticipation of the events of 10/7. As Simplicius sees it, “all indications prove that this has been an internal Israeli plan long in the making, that the events of October 7 were in fact a Pearl Harbor-esque falseflag tasked with generating the needed outrage which would allow the execution of the ‘Final Palestinian Solution.’ ” (For reference, see link to Simplicius’ Subtack article below) Three months before Oct. Somehow these media figures just happened to be at the right place at the right time to get their scoops. https://www.sott.net/article/485907-News-outlets-deny-claims-they-had-prior-knowledge-of-Hamas-attack-on-Israel This statement from Danny Danon, Israel’s former Ambassador to the United Nations, can be interpreted as a warning to photojournalists that they will be “eliminated” if they do not keep quiet about their prior knowledge of the events of October 7. Prior knowledge of 10/7 seems to have been widespread as it was during the weeks and months before 9/11. As Andre Damon concluded on December 2, “These revelations expose the Gaza genocide to be a criminal conspiracy by the Netanyahu regime and its imperialist backers, whose victims include not only 20,000 slaughtered Palestinians, but the Israeli population itself.” https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/12/02/klox-d02.html What would the trial of Benjamin Netanyahu look like if he was charged individually with the international crime of committing genocide as a result of his actions before, during, and after 9/11? What can humanity expect in the future if the individual most deeply implicated in the most hideous and openly performed genocide in recent times can walk away from the crime? As it now stands, many perpetrators of genocide in Gaza have a sense that they continue to be immune from charges, trials, and punishments for committing the highest level of international crimes on the books. At the frequently-held Zionist galas for schmoozing, networking, fund raising, award presentations and all manner of self-congratulations, the genocidaires of Gaza might as well be taking bows for the massacre of their captives in Gaza. Human Sacrifice Among Aztecs and in the Settler Colonialism of the Americas and Israel The US-Israeli role in implementing the current climactic phase of the Gazan Genocide must be considered in a variety of historical contexts including the event memorialized as the holocaust. The time has passed when anything to do with this subject can simply be taken on faith without discussion and open debate. No longer do the Zionist proponents of the Genocidal State of Israel get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to demanding the acceptance of their preferred interpretations of history. By politicizing the divine directive in the Torah to massacre the Amalekites, Netanyahu is effectively drawing on the blood lust of the vengeful Yahweh in what Simplicius describes as the current “Eschatological Frenzy.” Back in late October he explained, “The eschatological fervor of the Palestine crisis is reaching a deafening peak. One of the main paradigms used to explain this process of expansion was the imperial resort to the paradigm of the ascent from savagery to civilization as pictured through the lens of social Darwinism The anti-imperial characterization of the same process is to characterize it as series of manifestations of “settler colonialism” now on clear global display in Gaza and the West Bank. Our Descent from Civilization into Barbarism and Savagery The human sacrifices to Yahweh, the God of Greater Israel, are being sent to their death with the intervention of cutting edge Artificial Intelligence whose murderous aroma smells nothing like Lavender. Pepe Escobar In a statement that was widely reproduced, Escobar reported, In an effort to explain himself, Escobar engaged in a discussion with Larry Johnson and Ania K. Such efforts are needed to protect much of humanity from becoming human sacrifices to the gods of war, torture, and depravity? https://substack.com/home/post/p-143760594 http://donshafi911iamthefaceoftruth.blogspot.com/2024/04/netanyahu-and-human-sacrifices-in.html
