How To Pray Terawih - Step-by-Step Guide

How to Pray Taraweeh step by step for Muslim

    Praise be to Allah.

One of the acts of worship that we all look forward to during Ramadan is the terawih prayer. The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said:

    مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ إِيْمَانًا وَاحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

“Whoever stands (in worship) in Ramadan out of faith and hope for the rewards (from Allah), his past sins will be forgiven.”

    (Sahih Al-Bukhārī & Muslim)

The terawih prayer will begin right after the congregational Isyak prayer. Dedicated spaces for Muslimah will also be made available at most mosques.

Want to refresh your memory on how to perform the terawih prayer? Here is a step-by-step guide that you can follow!

    1. Establish the intention to perform terawih

    how to taraweeh at home

Recite the intention for terawih prayer:

    أُصَلِّي سُنَّةَ التَراوِيحِ رَكعَتَينِ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

    Usolli sunnata-taraawiihi rak'ataini lillah ta'ala

I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of terawih two raka'at for Allah ta'ala

If you pray in a congregation, the intentions for terawih prayer are as follows. The one who is leading the prayer as an Imam would recite:

    أُصَلِّي سُنَّةَ التَراوِيحِ رَكعَتَينِ إِمَامًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

    Usolli sunnata-taraawiihi rak'ataini imaamam lillah ta'ala

I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of terawih as the Imam two raka'at for Allah ta'ala

The Makmum (follower) will recite this intention:

    أُصَلِّي سُنَّةَ التَراوِيحِ رَكعَتَينِ مَأمُومًا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى

    Usolli sunnata-taraawiihi rak'ataini makmumam lillah ta'ala

I intend to pray the Sunnah prayer of terawih as the Makmum two raka'at for Allah ta'ala

    how to taraweeh at home

Takbiratul Ihram is the act of entering the state of prayer. It is done by raising your hands such that your thumbs are on the same level as your earlobes and your palms are on the same level as your shoulder.

Say ‘Allahu Akbar’ while keeping your intention in mind.

    3. Place your right hand over your left hand and recite Dua Iftitah

Stand in prayer (for the able men and women). Upon giving the Takbir, lower your hands gently over your chest and put your right hand over your left.

Recite the Dua Iftitah (opening dua) quietly only for the first raka’at:

    4. Recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another Surah from the Quran

Once the Dua Iftitah is read, recite the Ta’awwudz (seeking Allah's refuge from the devil) quietly:

    أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

    A'uzu biLlāhi minash-shaytānir-rajim

I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytan

    And then read Surah Al-Fatihah:

Guide us along the straight path
the path of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace
not those You are displeased with, or those who are astray
    Amiin

Upon completing the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, you may read any memorised surah of your preference. For the second raka’at, it is encouraged to choose a verse that does not precede the first in the order of the Quran.

For example, you can read Surah Al-’Asr in the first raka’at and read Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second.

Here is a list of recommended surahs from page 34 of Contemporary Irsyad Series - Ramadan edition (English) by Office of the Mufti:

    Recommended surah in terawih prayer

While there is no harm in reading the same surah again for the next raka’at, this Ramadan could be an opportunity to learn other beautiful surah and further increase our appreciation of the Quran, especially since there are so many benefits of reciting the Quran.

You may also opt to read from the Mushaf (physical copy of Quran), maybe a pocket Quran or Quran app.

    5. Bend forward for Ruku’

Recite the Takbiratul Intiqal (Allahu Akbar) during the transition from standing to bending for Ruku’, while raising your hands just as previously explained in Takbiratul Ihram. Lower your hands gently to your knees as you move towards the Ruku’ position.

    Say three times,

    Sami’ Allahu liman hamida

Allah has heard the one who praised Him

Lower your hands gently. When you are in the complete upright position, recite:

    رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ

    Rabbana walaKal-hamd

O Our Lord, to You are all the praises

    7. Perform the first sujud

Go into prostration while saying the Takbiratul Intiqal (Allahu Akbar) without raising your hands. Let your knees touch the ground first, followed by your palms and then your forehead. While in the first Sujud, say three times:

    سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى وَبِحَمْدِهِ

    Subhānna Rabbiyal-a’lā wa bihamdih

Glory be to my Lord The Most High, and praise be to He

    8. Sit on your knees

In between the two Sujud, rise from prostration to a sitting position on your knees while saying the Takbiratul Intiqal without raising your hands. In the sitting position, say :

    رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَارْحَمْنِيْ وَاجْبُرْنِيْ وَارْفَعْنِيْ وَارْزُقْنِيْ وَاهْدِنِيْ وَعَافِنِيْ وَاعْفُ عَنِّيْ

Rabbighfirlī warhamnī wajburnī warfa’nī warzuqnī wahdinī wa‘afinī wa’fu ‘annī

O Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, cover for me my shortcomings, elevate my rank, provide for me, guide me, grant me well-being, and pardon me

    9. Perform the second sujud

Afterwards, return to the prostration position to complete the second Sujud and repeat the recitation as mentioned previously. Upon fulfilling the mentioned integrals (arkān), we have completed the first raka’at.

    10. Return to the standing position

Return to the standing position as you recite the Takbiratul Intiqal and repeat the steps from 4 to 9 again to fulfil the second raka’at.

    11. Recite the final Tasyahhud

    At the end of your 2nd raka'at, sit on your left leg while the left foot is placed and briefly exposed below your right leg. Keep your right foot upright just as in the picture shown above. Complete the prayer by reciting the final Tasyahhud;

    اَلتَّحِيَّاتُ الْمُبَارَكَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ ِللهِ. اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ. اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِيْنَ

“At-tahiyyātul mubārakatuṣ-ṣalawātuth ṭayyibātu lillāh. Assalāmu ‘alaika ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuhu. Assalāmu ‘alainā wa ‘alā ‘ibādillāhiṣ-ṣālihīn.

Raise your right index finger. And say:

Asyhadu an lā ilāha illallāh, wa asyhadu anna Muhammadar Rasuulullāh

    Continue with the selawat:

Allahumma ṣalli 'ala Muhammadin, wa 'alā āli Muhammad, kamā ṣallaita 'ala 'āli Ibrāhīma, innaka Hamīdun Majīd. Allahumma bārik 'alā Muhammadin, wa 'alā āli Muhammad, kamā bārakta 'alā āli Ibrāhīma, innaka Hamīdun Majīd

O Allah, bestow your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as you bestowed your blessings upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praised and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praised and Glorious

    12. End with the salam

Turn your head to both of your sides, starting from the right, such that your cheek can be seen by anyone behind you, and say

    Assalamu alaykum wa-rahmatullah

Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you

By giving the salam, we have therefore completed one set of terawih prayer.

Each terawih prayer consists of two raka’at. If you intend to pray 8 raka'at of terawih prayer, do 4 sets of 2 raka'at. If you intend to do 20 raka'at of terawih prayer, do 10 sets of terawih Prayer.

    13. Do the witr prayer

    how to taraweeh at home

After completing the terawih prayer, it is encouraged to end the night with the witr prayer. Witr can also be performed after completing Qiyam al-Layl which refers to other supererogatory (sunnah) prayers that are done towards the end of the night or after waking up from sleep. This was mentioned by the Prophet s.a.w.:

“Make the last of your prayers at night the witr prayer."

    (Sahih Bukhari)

Witr prayer should be performed in an odd number of raka'at and is usually done in 3 raka'at. This is done by performing two raka’at of the same steps mentioned with the salam, and then followed by one raka’at with the salam to complete the three raka’at of the Witr prayer. The maximum number of raka’at for the sunnah witr prayer is 11 raka’at.

    14. Read recommended zikir and supplications

    how to taraweeh at home

There are supplications that are often read in mosques after every terawih prayer. However, if you do not read them, it does not invalidate the prayer. Nonetheless, reciting them is definitely encouraged. (Read Page 36 of Contemporary Irsyad Series - Ramadan edition)

What is important for us is to make full use of this blessed time and position to sincerely supplicate to Allah s.w.t. and express our love, hope, fear, regret, heart and soul to The One Who Hears, is Kind and Most Merciful to His servants.

However, it is understandable that we sometimes find it hard to think of what to dua. For the supplications that are often read after terawih and witr prayers, you may refer to this list of beautiful duas for Ramadan.

May this step-by-step guide on how to perform the terawih prayer benefit us. May this Ramadan be a more meaningful one, and may Allah s.w.t. accept our humble deeds. Ameen.

    Allah knows best.

Indeed You are Praised and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed the family of Ibrahim. Indeed You are Praised and Glorious 12. End with the salam Turn your head to both of your sides, starting from the right, such that your cheek can be seen by anyone behind you, and say Assalamu alaykum wa-rahmatullah Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you By giving the salam, we have therefore completed one set of terawih prayer. Each terawih prayer consists of two raka’at. If you intend to pray 8 raka'at of terawih prayer, do 4 sets of 2 raka'at. If you intend to do 20 raka'at of terawih prayer, do 10 sets of terawih Prayer. Read: How to Pray in Islam: Step-By-Step Guide to Solat for Beginners 13. Do the witr prayer how to taraweeh at home After completing the terawih prayer, it is encouraged to end the night with the witr prayer. Witr can also be performed after completing Qiyam al-Layl which refers to other supererogatory (sunnah) prayers that are done towards the end of the night or after waking up from sleep. This was mentioned by the Prophet s.a.w.: “Make the last of your prayers at night the witr prayer." (Sahih Bukhari) Witr prayer should be performed in an odd number of raka'at and is usually done in 3 raka'at. This is done by performing two raka’at of the same steps mentioned with the salam, and then followed by one raka’at with the salam to complete the three raka’at of the Witr prayer. The maximum number of raka’at for the sunnah witr prayer is 11 raka’at. 14. Read recommended zikir and supplications how to taraweeh at home There are supplications that are often read in mosques after every terawih prayer. However, if you do not read them, it does not invalidate the prayer. Nonetheless, reciting them is definitely encouraged. (Read Page 36 of Contemporary Irsyad Series - Ramadan edition) What is important for us is to make full use of this blessed time and position to sincerely supplicate to Allah s.w.t. and express our love, hope, fear, regret, heart and soul to The One Who Hears, is Kind and Most Merciful to His servants. There are many benefits of praying in a congregation. • Pfizer Insider Admits mRNA Set To Kill BILLIONS Within Months
    Baxter Dmitry
    Fact checked
Experimental mRNA vaccines are set to replace all of our medicines, according to Bill Gates, Pfizer and Moderna, who are warning that humanity will be forced to take hundreds of mRNA jabs every year if we wish to continue participating in society.

If that is the price, then count me out. Because with every passing day we are finding out more about the disastrous effects of the untested mRNA vaccines.

There have been legions of people who have died suddenly or suffered devastating health consequences, including young and healthy people, and an unprecedented number of professional athletes.
While mainstream media continues to pretend to be baffled, there is now a tidal wave of information about the disastrous effects of mRNA, including studies in the world’s most prestigious medical journals.
This information is now crashing through the artificial barriers constructed by the global elite’s gatekeepers in the media and Big Tech and the results, frankly, are glorious to behold. More people every day are waking up to the crimes of the globalist elite and demanding justice.
Want to see what this looks like in practice? We’ve got the footage proving that the people are waking up and mainstream media is being forced to admit the so-called conspiracy theorists were right all along.

Last week on Dutch TV there was a broadcast on the public channel featuring experts who openly called for the immediate suspension of genetic mRNA vaccines. Why? Hold on to your hats, folks. It turns out that groundbreaking scientific reports in the world’s most prestigious journals have finally proven what so-called conspiracy theorists have known all along.

The mRNA completely and irreparably alters human DNA. And this is a very, very bad thing.
According to Big Pharma executives “there is a coming tsunami of mRNA medicines” including for heart disease and cancer, which just so happen to be the two main problems caused by mRNA jabs in the first place. This is Melissa J. Moore, the Chief Scientific Officer at Moderna:
Instead of being hauled before international tribunal for crimes against humanity, the globalist elite are lording it over the masses, boasting that the lockdowns, face masks, and forced jabs of Covid was just the beginning.
If that wasn’t disturbing enough, Moderna’s chief scientific officer also boasted that Big Pharma will soon be injecting mRNA straight into people’s hearts. Yes, she’s talking about the same hearts that were healthy until the vaccine roll out caused millions of people all over the world, including fit and healthy young people and elite athletes, to keel over with heart problems.
Pfizer are doubling down on mRNA as well, making a staggering $43 billion bet that “turbo cancers” are about to explode around the world.
Last month Pfizer stunned the medical world by acquiring Seagen, a small drug company that treats turbo cancers and barely makes $2 billion per year.
The nature of the acquisition has left many people scratching their heads. There is something very sinister lurking in the details of this deal.
Pfizer’s new acquisition takes them from being able to “treat” two of these turbo cancers, to being able to treat seven out of 10. Not bad for a company looking to corner the market in treating the same problems it is causing.
So what exactly is happening? Let’s hear some more from the molecular biologist brave enough to break ranks with the Big Pharma establishment on Dutch TV to share some real information with the people. It turns out that playing God and altering human DNA was not such a good idea – unless you happen to have global depopulation in mind.
The global elite have warned us repeatedly that they consider themselves gods and that we must not stand in their way. They were not joking. With the roll-out of mRNA technology, pumped into the arms of billions of misled people around the world, they have experimented with the human genome, altering the DNA of their victims, and the results have been devastating.
The tragic thing is that we have only seen the beginning of the tragedy. According to leaked Pfizer documents, the adverse effects are set to become much, much more serious for the vaccinated in the next twelve months.
It’s no wonder that 42% of Americans told a Rasmussen Reports poll that they are likely or very likely to join a major class action law suit against Moderna and Pfizer.
We can’t allow these globalists and Biotech companies to get away with murder. Given that we know the elite are determined to depopulate the world, it’s time to draw a line in the sand.
Here at the People’s Voice, we are determined to expose the crimes of the elite and bring them to justice. But we can’t do it alone. We need your help to spread the truth far and wide. • Duas for Palestine and Gaza in English With Transliteration and Translation
During these times, we should be more spiritually resilient and increase our ibadah, and one of the simplest forms of ibadah is by reciting duas or supplication.

Duas for Palestine and Gaza in English

    dua for palestine

It has been 75 years since the Nakba in 1948. Throughout these years, Palestinians have had to bear unimaginable oppression and suffering.

Read: Dangers and Opportunities in the Role of Religion in the Israel-Hamas War

Every time we see news of Palestinians being oppressed, displaced or killed, we can’t help but feel grief, rage, sadness, and helplessness.

Firstly, it is okay to feel these feelings and to allow yourself to process them. It's important to understand these feelings, make sense of them, and acknowledge them.

Read: A Mental Health Guide for Those Grappling With The Crisis in Gaza

Secondly, it is during these times that we should be more spiritually resilient and increase our ibadah, and one of the simplest forms of ibadah is by reciting duas or supplication.

The beauty of making dua is that you can recite it anytime, no matter your condition and situation. Be it if you are feeling sad or happy, there is always time to recite a dua.

Allah s.w.t. mentioned in the Quran:

    وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدْعُونِىٓ أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ

Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you.”

    (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

Alhamdulillah, various local organisations and mosques have stepped up in efforts to provide platforms not just for logistical aids only but for spirituality as well. One of which was reciting the Dua Qunut Nazilah, with some mosques still reciting it regularly.

    1. Dua Qunut Nazilah

    qunut nazilah
Dua Qunut Nazilah is a sunnah that is often read in times of calamity or crisis or for seeking Allah’s protection. It also can be read with the intention of assisting others facing adversity, signifying solidarity between the Muslims.

Dua Qunut Nazilah is recited on the last unit of prayer (raka’at), after the i’tidal, while still standing, and before proceeding to the sujud position, and it is also recommended to raise both hands upon reciting the Dua Qunut.

    Allāhummah dinā fīman hadait
    Wa ‘āfinā fīman ‘āfait
    Wa tawallanā fīman tawallait
    Wa bārik lānā fīma a’atoit
    Wa qinā syarra mā qadhait
Fa-innaka taqdhī wa lā yuqdho ‘alaik
Wa innahu lā yazillu man wālait
    Wa lā ya’izzu man ‘ādait

Wa sallAllāhu ‘alā sayyidinā Muhammadin-nabiyyil-ummi wa ‘alā alihi wa sahbihi wa sallam

    Meaning:

O Allah, guide me as You have guided others, grant me well-being as You have granted others, take me into Your care as You have taken others into Your care, and bless me in all that You have given me. Protect me from the evils You have ordained.

Surely, You hold command without being commanded, and those under Your care shall not be humiliated. None whom You have taken as an enemy shall taste glory. You are blessed, Our Lord, and Exalted. All praise is upon You for Your decisions. I seek Your forgiveness, and I repent to You.

O Allah, we turn to You and ask, by Your mercy and gentleness, to look upon us and all Your creations. All doors are closed except Yours, all causes ceased except Yours. There is no might or power except through You, Lord of all the worlds.

O Allah, we ask for safety, security, peace, and tranquility for the entire world and all people. Preserve these blessings upon us, our children, and our homes, Lord of all the worlds.

O Allah, aid our vulnerable brothers and sisters in Gaza and Palestine (repeated three times), and in all places, O Most Merciful of the Merciful. Take them by their hand, protect them, be gentle with them, and suppress deceit. Grant them Your protection against aggressors, remove harm, oppression, and all adversity—both apparent and hidden. Be gentle with them, in safety and well-being, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful.

O Allah, reward the victims, tend to the wounded, instill tranquility in their hearts, allay their fears, turn their sadness to happiness, Lord of all the worlds.

O Allah, intervene between them and their adversaries. Inspire them with Your guidance, open the doors of wisdom, safety, pardon, and forgiveness. O Affectionate, Benefactor, Creator of the heavens and universe.

    2. Dua for Protection from Trials and Tribulations

In these tumultuous times, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. has clearly warned us to protect ourselves against afflictions, specifically against Dajjal.

dua for protection from dajjal palestine

    Allahumma inni a’uzubika min ‘azabil-qabr, wa a’uzubika min fitnatil-masihid-dajjal, wa a’uzubika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat. Allahumma inni a’uzubika minal-ma’thami wal-maghram.

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of Life and Death. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from sin and debts.

    (Sunan Abi Daud)

The Prophet s.a.w. would sometimes read this supplication after the end of his prayers. This dua is usually read after the tahiyyat akhir, before giving the salam.

    3. Dua for Total Protection

Another important supplication that can be read in these times is the dua which seeks Allah’s protection and concealment of one's shortcomings.

    Allahummas-tur ‘aurati wa-amin rau’ati, wah-fazni min baini yadaiya, wa-min khalfi, wa-’an yamini, wa-’an syimali, wa-min fawqi, wa-a’uzu bika an ughtala min tahti

O Allah, conceal my shortcomings, calm my fears, and protect me from before me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in You from being taken unaware from beneath.

    (Sunan Ibn Majah)

One reason we should read this dua is that whatever shortcomings we had in the past would not hinder our sincere efforts to become a better person, insyaAllah.

    4. Dua for Sincere Forgiveness

In these trying times, we should increase our efforts in making more dua. Therefore, when praying for our brothers and sisters in Palestine, let us not forget to pray for ourselves as well. Let's seek forgiveness from Allah s.w.t. and make sincere repentance.

    Sayyidul Istighfar dua for palestine

O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I remain faithful to Your covenant and Your promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favours upon me, and I admit my sins. So forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You.

    (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Known as the ‘Sayyidul Istighfar’, the Prophet s.a.w. mentioned that ‘whoever recites during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.’

    5. Dua For Reliance on Allah s.w.t.

Lastly, let’s not forget to have faith and put our unwavering trust in the Almighty in His plans.

Dua For Palestine Reliance on Allah

Allahumma laka aslamtu, wa bika amantu, wa ‘alaika tawakkaltu, wa ilaika anabtu.

Oh Allah! To You I have submitted, and in You do I believe, and in You I put my trust, to You do I turn to.

    (Muttafaqun ‘Alayh)

Even when we find ourselves in situations we don't fully comprehend or when things seem to deviate from our plans, it's crucial to acknowledge and trust that whatever is unfolding aligns with His divine will and may ultimately be for our greater good.

Finally, we should not waver in our ibadah. We should strengthen our connection with Allah s.w.t. for Allah s.w.t. is ever-ready for us to return to Him.

In a hadith qudsi reported by Abu Dharr:

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Allah Almighty says: Whoever comes with a good deed will have the reward of ten like it and even more. Whoever comes with an evil deed will be recompensed for one evil deed like it or he will be forgiven. Whoever draws close to Me by the length of a hand, I will draw close to him by the length of an arm. Whoever draws close to Me by the length of an arm, I will draw close to him by the length of a fathom. Whoever comes to Me walking, I will come to him running. Whoever meets Me with enough sins to fill the earth, not associating any partners with Me, I will meet him with as much forgiveness.”

    (Sahih Muslim)

May Allah s.w.t. accept our sincerest efforts and ease the affairs of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, insyaAllah.

Dua for Protection from Trials and Tribulations In these tumultuous times, Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. has clearly warned us to protect ourselves against afflictions, specifically against Dajjal. dua for protection from dajjal palestine Allahumma inni a’uzubika min ‘azabil-qabr, wa a’uzubika min fitnatil-masihid-dajjal, wa a’uzubika min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat. I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of Life and Death. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from sin and debts. (Sunan Abi Daud) The Prophet s.a.w. would sometimes read this supplication after the end of his prayers. This dua is usually read after the tahiyyat akhir, before giving the salam. Dua for Total Protection Another important supplication that can be read in these times is the dua which seeks Allah’s protection and concealment of one's shortcomings. اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُرْ عَورَاتِي وَآمِنْ رَوعَاتِي، وَاحْفَظْنِي مِن بَينِ يَدَيَّ، وَمِن خَلفِي وَعَن يَمِينِي وَعَن شِمَالِي وَمِن فَوقِي، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَن أُغْتَالَ مِن تَحْتِي Allahummas-tur ‘aurati wa-amin rau’ati, wah-fazni min baini yadaiya, wa-min khalfi, wa-’an yamini, wa-’an syimali, wa-min fawqi, wa-a’uzu bika an ughtala min tahti O Allah, conceal my shortcomings, calm my fears, and protect me from before me and behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in You from being taken unaware from beneath. • Dua Qunut for Subuh Prayers and Dua Qunut Nazilah with Arabic/English Transliteration

Dua Qunut for the Subuh and Witr Prayers and Dua Qunut Nazilah

Dua Qunut in English with transliteration and translation

All praises be to Allah s.w.t.

Among the signs of a humble servant is when he constantly consults The One who created him. We supplicate to express our gratitude and thankfulness to Allah s.w.t. It is indeed our utmost duty to seek from Him goodness and forgiveness in times of hardship and ease.

Allah s.w.t mentions in the Quran:

    وَإِذَا سَألَك عِبَادِي عَنِّي فإنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُواْ لِي وَلْيُؤمِنُواْ بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرشُدُونَ

And when My servants ask you, (O Muhammad), concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me (by obedience) and believe in Me that they may be (rightly) guided

    (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:186)

The supplication of Dua Qunut is the supplication recited during Subuh prayer (Fajr prayer). The Arabic word ‘قنوت - Qunoot’ has multiple linguistic meanings, one of which simply means ‘To Stand’.

As a Fiqh term, it means; A supplication or praise to Allah s.w.t. which is read at a specific Rukun in Solat (while in the form of i’tidal - standing). The Dua Qunut was first practised when our Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. encountered a calamity during the early stages of prophethood in Makkah.

    There are two types of Dua Qunut;

    1. Dua Qunut Rotibah (regular) is recited during Subuh prayer as well as the Witr prayer in the second half of Ramadan. It is also sunnah for those who did not perform or may have missed the Dua Qunut Rotibah in prayer to do the Sujud Sahwi before giving the salam.

Read: How to Pray in Islam: Step-By-Step Guide to Solat for Beginners

    2. Dua Qunut Nazilah, which is specifically recited in times of calamity or for seeking Allah’s protection. Qunut Nazilah is recited during the five daily obligatory prayers and the Friday prayers.

When a crisis or calamity happens, it is Sunnah to recite Dua Qunut Nazilah. In fact, we can also recite the Dua when we intend to provide assistance for others facing adversity or disaster. This can be a way of showing solidarity as Muslims towards others.

The ruling for both of these two types of Dua Qunut is Sunnah.

Dua Qunut is recited on the last unit of prayer (raka’at), after the I’tidal, while still standing, and before proceeding to the Sujud position. It is recommended to raise both hands upon reciting the Dua Qunut.

    1. Dua Qunut/Qunoot

    Meaning:

O Allah, guide me with those whom You have guided and grant me wellbeing with those whom You have granted wellbeing. Take me to Your care with those whom You have taken to Your care. Bless me in what You have given me. Protect me from the evil You have ordained.

Surely, You hold the command and are not commanded, and none whom You have committed to Your care shall be humiliated. And none whom You have taken as an enemy shall taste glory. You are blessed, Our Lord and Exalted. All I praise is upon You for what You decide.

I seek Your forgiveness, and I repent unto You.  Peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and all his Companions.

    2. Dua Qunut Nazilah

The recent heartbreaking events in Gaza call our attention to recite Dua Qunut Nazilah, specifically for the Palestinians and to all victims of disasters and unfortunate events around the world.

    And Allah knows best.

Dua Qunut for Subuh Prayers and Dua Qunut Nazilah with Arabic/English Transliteration Dua Qunut for the Subuh and Witr Prayers and Dua Qunut Nazilah Dua Qunut in English with transliteration and translation All praises be to Allah s.w.t. Among the signs of a humble servant is when he constantly consults The One who created him. We supplicate to express our gratitude and thankfulness to Allah s.w.t. It is indeed our utmost duty to seek from Him goodness and forgiveness in times of hardship and ease.  Allah s.w.t mentions in the Quran:  وَإِذَا سَألَك عِبَادِي عَنِّي فإنِّي قَرِيبٌ أُجِيبُ دَعْوَةَ الدَّاعِ إِذَا دَعَانِ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُواْ لِي وَلْيُؤمِنُواْ بِي لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرشُدُونَ And when My servants ask you, (O Muhammad), concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me (by obedience) and believe in Me that they may be (rightly) guided (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:186) The supplication of Dua Qunut is the supplication recited during Subuh prayer (Fajr prayer). There are two types of Dua Qunut; 1. Read: How to Pray in Islam: Step-By-Step Guide to Solat for Beginners 2. 1. Dua Qunut/Qunoot اللهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَAllāhummah-dinÄ« fÄ«man hadaitوَعَافِني فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَWa ‘āfinÄ« fÄ«man ‘āfaitوَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَWa tawallanÄ« fÄ«man tawallaitوَبَارِكْ لِي فِيماَ أَعْطَيْتَWa bārik lÄ« fÄ«mā a’atoitوَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَWa qinÄ« syarra mā qadhaitفَإنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلاَ يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَFa-innaka taqdÄ« wa lā yuqdho ‘alaikوَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ Wa innahu laa yazillu man wālaitوَلاَ يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَWa lā ya’izzu man ‘ādaitتَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَTabārakta Rabbana wa ta'ālaitفَلَكَ الْحَمْدٌ عَلى ما قَضَيتَ وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأََتُوبُ إِلَيْكَFalak-al-hamdu ‘alā mā qadhaita, wa astaghfiruka wa atÅ«bu ilaikوَصلَّى اللهُ عَلىَ سَيًّدًنَا مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الأُمِّيِ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ أَجْمَعِينَWa sallallāhu ‘alā sayyidinā Muhammadin Nabiyyil ummÄ«yi wa ‘alā ālihi wa sahbihiajma’Ä«n Meaning: O Allah, guide me with those whom You have guided and grant me wellbeing with those whom You have granted wellbeing. Despite the trials and tribulations, there is always room for His endless blessings and may He open our hearts and eyes to count them. And Allah knows best. Check out Muslim.Sg's dua collection.

  • Fresh picked Opihi, A Hawaiian Delicacy!
Opihi is a type of sea snail or limpet that is native to the rocky shorelines of Hawaii and other parts of the Pacific. There are several different species of opihi, but all have a cone-shaped shell and a muscular foot that they use to cling tightly to rocks in the intertidal zone.
Opihi are an important traditional food source in Hawaii and are considered a delicacy by many. They can be eaten raw or cooked in a variety of dishes, and are often harvested by hand from the rocky shoreline. However, over-harvesting and habitat loss have led to a decline in opihi populations, and they are now protected under state law in Hawaii.

  • This is an ancient Hawaiian tidal fishing pond that is still maintained and is know as “baby beach park” because it’s super calm within the wall of the pond…. Perfect place to bring baby to learn how to swim. Turtles come here at night as well, so people are always looking at them, even though your not supposed to bother them, they don’t seem to mind. And if you are learning to SUP it’s a great spot for that too. Have a wonderful day everyone!

  • Can you die in quicksand?
You know all those TV shows and movies where somebody very dramatically gets swallowed up by quicksand? It is just that dramatic but not actually true.

That’s because most quicksand are just a few inches deep. And even though it's deep you would only sink to your waist as you then begins to float. If somebody dies from it, it normally happens in tidal basins. The person get stuck and drowns whenever the tides come in.
